We made reservations on Open Table and although we had trouble finding a place to park we arrived on time. There were several tables available, but they tried to put us in a table in the center of the room (which I hate). When I asked, the host gave us a more comfortable table. We told the host that we had parked in a vacant lot at the corner that was owned by an attorney office. The sign was confusing about when it was legal to park there and we did not want to be towed. He did not try to take time to listen to us and understand where we were parked and blew us off with a "it'll probably be OK". We continued to worry and went back to him. This time he said Oh I thought you meant a different alley. I asked where their customers usually parked, he said, "where ever they can". It is a downtown hole in the wall place but seemed pretty busy. I'm assuming the regulars walked from long distances. The menu was very limited. The food was just OK. We ordered the nachos for an appetizer. They would would have been very tasty but there was hardly any sauce, cheese, pico and beans. It looked nice. Like everything else we had, it was clear that their philosophy is that "just a hint" of flavor is chic. The bread with my very bland lasagna was "fire roasted" (burnt). It was supposed to be garlic bread but there was a small dot of butter, it was hard and no taste of garlic. My portion was hefty unlike my husbands and daughters. My daughters Chicken parmesan had a fancy drizzle of marinara, a sprinkling of cheese and a bowl full of plain pasta. It was not bad after she asked for more marinara. My husband liked his chicken and waffle. But that is all it was: a fried leg and thigh on a waffle with a little drizzle of syrup and some powdered sugar sprinkled on the plate. The "industrial", hip atmosphere attracted a certain element and they are obviously popular, but it must be for the drinks at the bar. We did not try that.John-Cheri,We are of course very disappointed to hear about your subpar experience with us as it is certainly not the norm. Our philosophy is actually one of providing excellent fresh, creative, farm-to-table New American cuisine with excellent service, so we are very sorry that is not what you experienced.Unfortunately, mistakes can and do happen at restaurants both in the front and back of the house, and it appears that we definitely made some on this occasion. We appreciate your specific feedback as all we can do is learn from and improve on because of it.We hope that you will give us another shot and experience what you deserve and what we know we usually provide here at Daphne. We also invite you to contact our General Manager, Vince Charbonneau, directly if you'd like to discuss any of this further - [email protected] or at (828) 552-3240.Thank you for your patronage and we hope to see you again.

I personally love their bakery items because its all gluten free. And basically its all I ever buy. The food...well too woo woo for me. But others like it. I'm into more plain simple food without all the spices and such. Its a hoping busy place. Folks at counter are really sweet. As usual not enough parking as with most anything around this area. Thank you for the straightforward review! The next time you're in, ask the server for a simple recommendation. Of course, you can always stick to the bakery items; there are so many great things to choose from. :) See you soon.

Tupelo Honey

Our Southern dishes and libations are served with a creative twist and a smile, and we serve our guests nothing that we wouldn't want on our own supper table. When we play with our food (and we think it's okay), the result is scrumptious. We're rooted in

Our waiter, Daryl made this a fun visit. He was welcoming and knew the menu and drink options well. That's always impressive. Daryl was attentive throughout our late lunch for two. One of us ordered a cocktail called "Mountain Smoke"...it was kitchy and fun to watch as the bartender had to come to the table to pour it, but it is not worth the $15 charge. Delicious biscuits are brought to start. One of us had the Shoo Mercy sweet potato pancakes...mercy, they were awesome! Buttermilk fried chicken, apple cider bacon, toasted pecans, two fried eggs, all atop sweet potato pancakes. Throw on some Tabanaro hot sauce to make the dish complete if you like some heat. The other entree ordered was the Appalachian salad, which had plenty of fresh spinach with goat cheese, toasted pecans, berries, and sweet potato puree. Thanks, Daryl and Tupelo Honey for a great lunch!

Never having eaten at a vegetarian cafe, we didn't know what to expect. A huge menu was available with many yummy sounding entrees. We were there for brunch, so we went with the 3 egg omelet with broccoli and portabello"bacon". The biscuits and smokey roasted potatoes were very good too. So, we weren't adventurous, but liked our meals alot.

WOW! A very unassuming storefront restaurant in West Asheville, you would never expect the quality of food and reasonableness of the wine list that you’ll get at Jargon. A small Southern menu, with interesting appetizers (shareable) and an eclectic wine list of broad variety. The Hushpuppies are fabulous. The shrimp and grits delicious and very reasonably priced ($17). The pear dessert is off the charts. A can’t miss choice. Our wait person, Andrea, was very knowledgeable and greatly helped with our food and wine choices. A minimalist vibe and excellent food.
