It is great to be able to build your own bowl of meat choices, noodle choices, vegetable choices, and sauce! We all have our favorite combinations. The food always looks fresh and they do a good job restocking items as needed. The only down side, is they use a common grill and sometimes when it's really busy, you can get some sauce or items from neighboring food while they are stirring the items during cooking. Most of the time this is not a problem and there is enough space between the meals.

Hong Kong Chinese REstaurant

We stopped for lunch after traversing three brand-new roundabouts between Waterloo and Cedar Falls, an unnerving experience, since we live in a rural community. We used to take our daughter to the Hong Kong when she attended UNI ten years ago. It's the same--the food is tasty and the waitstaff is quick to seat and serve customers--the women race around the restaurant efficiently. Scout had the special, Orange Chicken, which came with a chicken wing and fried rice and sweet and sour soup. I ordered wonton soup ($2 extra for a small bowl, Scout pointed out), and Chicken Lomein with fried rice. We had an egg roll and a crab rangoon with hot mustard and sweet sauce before the entrees, as well as jasmine hot tea. Even our fortune cookies rang true: Mine said, "You are primed to come up with a creative solution," and Scout's, "Today is the tomorrow we worried about yesterday." We left satisfied and then enjoyed a latte and mocha latte from Cup of Joe in downtown Cedar Falls--and thus avoided the dread roundabouts.

We have visited Panda Express twice in the last two weeks. The first time, and our first experience, was during the week and the food was excellent, great portions and friendly staff as well. The second time we stopped, a Friday night, they were clearly overwhelmed and could not handle the large crowd. We waited a half hour in line while two people waited on customers. They ran out of food and there was a wait for certain items. However, they ran out of fried rice with no more for the rest of the night. How does a Chinese Restaurant run out of fried rice when they have plenty of white rice??? I think they just didn't want to make more. Anyhow, that was a one time occurrence and I am hopeful they will get it together. The server was very friendly - nice guys.
