Reviews on Barbecue food in Pensacola, Florida, United States. If you're looking for some great Florida beaches but aren't necessarily interested in a mega-resort or theme park atmosphere, Pensacola might just be the place for your perfect weekend. Home to Gulf Islands National Seashore, the city offers some of the best fishing and boating in the area. Inland, canoeing enthusiasts won't want to miss the beauty of the Blackwater River. Closer to town, the city has a proud military heritage, which can be seen at attractions like the National Museum of Naval Aviation and the Pensacola Naval Air Station.

I hate to be one of the generic "Well, I'm a Texan" folk, but I'm going to have to put that persona on for this review. So, apologies in advance for the ad nauseam Texan references. While enjoying a nearby restaurant, my family and I couldn't help but keep commenting on the wonderful smell of smoked meats making it's way through the air (it's a Texas sixth sense, after all). After making our way back to the hotel, I made it my mission to figure out where that wonderful smell was originating from. Low and behold, it was Sonny's just a few blocks away! Considering that we were off the next morning for Disney World, I had to simply live off of those beautiful meat fumes. But, lucky for me, we had to once again pass through Pensacola to make it back to the land of Texans. This time, we got to taste test those beautiful smoked meats that created that gorgeous aroma.Once we arrived, we were seated immediately. The restaurant itself was clean, well lit, and well themed. Our waitress was quick to take and deliver our drinks, and was great at dodging all of the jokes that we managed to build up during our drive back from Disney. The food? Well, let's just say I was pleasantly surprised! When it comes to brisket, I tend to be a little overly critical. When I ordered my sandwich, I asked for the fattiest/wet pieces of brisket that they could find. They delivered! My brisket sandwich was FANTASTIC! It was a little smaller than I'm used to finding in Texas, but we're all fat . . . So, maybe that's a good thing? Either way, it was great.I will say, I was less than thrilled by their baked beans. They were overly acidic/citrus flavored. I'm sure that's a regional difference, but I didn't enjoy them at all. Their rolls, butter, french fries, and mac and cheese were all delicious as well.Needless to say, when we make our way back to Disney in October, we'll be making a point to stop at Sonny's!

Hot Spot is our go-to spot for bbq. I always order the pork sandwich and my wife the chicken. Their potato salad is our favorite side. The staff is always friendly. The food is always delicious. And when we feel naughty...we take a slice of lemon pie home. The pie is heavenly! It isn’t too tart like some lemon pies. Enjoy!!
