A table for 9 on an early Sunday evening, not very busy at all. Service was extremely slow, bread and olives arrived with the mains. Second round of drinks I retrieved from the bar myself and we had finished the mains so not really required. Excruciating wait for one apple crumble, when I got home I realised a 10% automatic service charge had been added, £31! The up side was very good attention to allergies and the food quality good but overall really too expensive and you should be asked whether you agree with the service charge.

Having lived in Kingston for the large majority of my life with two massive foodies as parents, we’ve always travelled miles for good pub food at gastro pubs. However, about a month ago my mother discovered the Canbury arms. We’ve returned at least four times for dinner since then. Every time we’ve been very happy with the food, service and atmosphere. They’re dog friendly (outside) which is another bonus. I’m the only veggie in my family and both meat eating and non meat eating parties have left the pub content and full on each visit.

The past two times I’ve tried to go to the Foresters it was closed for a private function (not announced on website or social media) so I was delighted that it was actually open this time. I used to love the Foresters and ate and drank there regularly. Last night though, there was 5 items missing from the mains menu, the fish was raw in the middle and greasy on the outside, we’d chosen our opinions based on having a cheese board afterwards and then discovered there was no cheese (even thought it was on the menu and black board). Our bill was extortionately expensive for what we ate with no offer of compensation for our inconvenience. All in all, really disappointing. I gave them a second chance and they failed miserably.

The Pottery

I like The Pottery, I have eaten here many times and it used to be very much at the top of my local food places. I do feel, however, that some standards have slipped a little lately. We started with olives which were excellent and had tapas to follow. Most of the tapas were either very good or definitely good. However, the bread was a total joke. It was one of those small frozen white baguettes you can buy from any supermarket for 35p or so. It was also so crispy on the outside that after eating a few pieces my roof of the mouth was scratched. Why would you let a pretty good meal down by something as fundamental as bread? I just don't get it. Furthermore, the wine list is not to my taste and I believe Spain (or indeed Spanish speaking countries) produce much better wines than these. Otherwise, everything was lovely. I'd love them to address these issues and make it a top-notch place once again.Hello there,Thank you for your review. I am are very happy you enjoyed our Tapas and the olives which we take great pride. The bread should not be the white baguette as you are describing but a lovely freshly baked multigrain baguette served with virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar and a delicious butter and sea salt. I am very sorry about this and will make sure everyone reads your review and don't ever do such mistake again so next time you visit you can have a taste of proper delicious bread.I appreciate your comments about the wine list and promise we'll look into it.We put a lot of effort on everything we do at The Pottery and take your views seriously so once more thank you for letting us know.Kind regardsLucia

Stein's

Stein´s has had it good moments with quite stereotypical but fun German food and drinks. The service even when terse and abrupt had its charming moments. This evening was a very different encounter. The unsmiling waitress asked us grumpily if we had a reservation and when told we had not, proceeded to march us to the outside area muttering, "you will have to share". When we said we preferred to sit inside she threw down the menus on one of the long empty benches and marched off. We waited patiently as waiter after waiter walked by ignoring any attempts at eye contact hoping to get a few cold drinks, while being assailed by music plainly too loud for the setting. When it become clear that we would not get any semblance of normal service we left and waited for our Uber outside. In the time we waited outside, our supposed service found the time to stand outside firing off a few texts whilst vaping and enjoying a long break from serving a practically empty restaurant. We have not had such an unwelcoming and unfriendly experience for a while.

My friend and I popped into this restaurant/pub for food tonight. We had an issue with our starter. We ordered Calamari. Calamari was nice but the garnish of salad was brown around the edges wilted and wet. Obviously not fresh. It wasn’t pleasant to look at and you certainly wouldn’t want to eat it! We brought it to the attention of the waitress but she wasn’t bothered and no one came back to address it. We couldn’t get anyone’s attention so ate the calamari which was getting cold and left the so called garnish. On production of the bill we again brought it to the attention of the waiter that we wasn’t happy about the starter. Their attitude stunk. Basically we were told we were lucky to have got garnish and it would appear that as long as the calamari was ok the overall presentation was irrelevant. Unbelievable! It appears that it is acceptable for this restaurant to present food that looks unsightly and they don’t care about customer satisfaction. The Manager has the same opinion. Will never be returning to this restaurant! If you have a problem with any part of your meal don’t expect good customer service as they don’t care about customer satisfaction. Terrible attitude- over time their clientele will diminish. They need to be more reasonable. Not cheap either. £7.95 for the starter. Overpriced.
