Thai Dish & Burger

Reviewed By BillMontvale

The restaurant world in the Naugatuck Valley has been degenerating for the past 4-5 years. Chinese food: terrible; Italian food: Awful. For some unknown reason, people here seem to think that pizza is actually food. Then along comes Thai Dish. They bought a restaurant that was offering the most basic of fast food to suit the Valley taste. Surprisingly wonderful, fresh, clean and customer-caring is this little establishment. Everybody orders the Pad Thai. That's about as far as Thai cuisine gets around here. However, I would suggest that you simply tell the owner what kind of spices you like, hot, mild, etc., and then let him truly surprise you.Their food is excellent on all levels. Fresh, crisp, delicately seasoned: It's like eating in a really great Chinese restaurant that simply substituted peanut oil for their cooking experience. There is no Chinese food in the Valley. We've tried them all: bland, uninspired, crap.Thai Dish is God's gift to this tragic dining region. Go quickly there and be equally amazed at the quality of their offerings.

Visited with family. Arrived and was greeting with iced water which was always welcome on hot day. Sushi was made to order and delicious. All you can eat is a great deal. They serve not only sushi but Japanese soups and japanese teppanyaki too. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Our friends have been going to House of Chao with their kids for years and have wanted to bring us. It's the only Chinese food they will eat now even though they live 30 minutes away. I have to say the other reviews are correct...House of Chao is not a fancy restaurant to go to by any means. However, the food is absolutely delicious and freshly made, the staff is very friendly, and the prices are all reasonable. There were about 9 of us and everyone got a main dish and we ended up just passing them all around for everyone to try. The steamed dumplings were very good as others mention here. Also all the chicken dishes were especially good with their big chunks of real chicken. I wish I took some pictures to share. When I ever get back there I will. All the vegetables were fresh and cut to good size. l don't think there is a dish you would be disappointed with.Dress is casual. Jeans are fine. Not fancy but not a dive like the Chinese place in my town. The place is not large - maybe 8-10 tables. We had a reservation for our large party and all the other tables were filled while there on a Saturday night. But I don't remember seeing anyone waiting either. The food comes out slow because it is all being made fresh. It makes for an enjoyable meal though assuming you are with people you like. Our friends said they do the takeout very often and it is just as good.We need more places like this.

Nice ambiance, friendly service and since this was my first trying this cuisine it was very good. We had the spring eolls as an appetizer, then I had the beef and meatball soup. My girlfriend had pho with meatballs and cilantro. All in all it was. Great experience and will be visiting again.

Noodle House

Decided to give this place a shot, despite the strip-mall, dollar-store-neighbor location. So glad we did! We had dumplings, one of the Thai salads and a shrimp noodle dish. All were bursting with flavor. Good fresh veggies, not too salty or oily, the shrimp was perfectly cooked. We like our Thai spicy and they got it just right for what we were looking for. We will be back!

Dozo

Dozo is I think the third iteration of this Japanese restaurant, and although we try other new haven area sushi, we always return to Dozo. Their fish is fresh, tasty, and skillfully prepared. The sushi and nigiri are never disappointing, and the hot dishes like yaki udon are excellent as well. Wonderful ginger dressing, adequate beer and wine selection, helpful staff. Always willing to substitute the weird things that I like( octopus, mackerel) without complaint. Solid sushi experience.

Thai Stories

Reviewed By jaseaton

Ahead of Thanksgiving, we did a takeout dinner from Thai Stories. It's a tiny place in the corner of a small strip and attractive. The food is competent without being at all gourmet or fancy. Best to order mild spice unless you're sure of your limits. My drunken noodle with chicken was excellent. Other dishes were good, not great. The cashier seemed to have some spectrum challenges, but he did a fine job of taking orders over the phone and dealing with payments. All in all a success. And the parking is far more convenient than other Thai places in the area.
