Managed to get a table at 7.30pm at this joint and chose the matsusaka special course for 5800Â¥ pp. Assorted appetizers, marbled beef sushi, short rib with leek and salt then the four different parts matsusaka beef with garlic rice ending with ice cream dessert. Cook your own meats, overall it was an enjoyable meal in traditional surroundings near the lively area of Dontonburi.

My first experience of shabu shabu was delicious and fun. If you get a table at Shabuchin, they give you your own pot so you can all have a different type of shabu shabu instead of everyone having the same thing. We chose the wagyu and the premium pork (you can get different grades of meat and different types and they also do a vegetarian shabu shabu). When you get near the bottom of the pot, they’ll bring some ramen noodles and a fresh bowl with a spice mix in the bottom so you get the rest of the liquid and create a new dish. Nothing goes to waste. The meat was top quality and the veges were interesting and very fresh.Overall, a really awesome meal and loads of fun.

We came because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor. I really don't understand how exactly they got such a high score. We ordered two different lunch sets. The food was not good, the main taste was of frying oil. kinda gives you a Mcnuggets vibe (but not as tasty). Came out really disappointed and with a bad reflux.

Hate to be the one who breaks from the group on this place, but we went based on Trip Advisor reviews and what I read in those reviews didn’t equal our experience. To be completely honest, this place seems very trendy, I’m not a fan of trendy. Seemed very popular w the under 30 crowd, and except for one group all local couples. I highly suggest you make a reservation. We arrived at 6:30 and were told to come back at 8:00. We walked the neighborhood, which is a bit outside the tourist area so not a lot of places to grab a drink. When we arrived back at 8, we did have two seats at their counter waiting for us. The place is small and was full this evening. In the first level, sits about 10 at the counter another 5 or so at another make-shift eating area next to counter. Never made it to the upstairs. Ordered two glasses of wine, two of their specials-one sashimi tuna, one raw oysters. Forty minutes later we still were waiting for the sashimi-I mean their raw, how long does it take? The oysters were fine as was the wine. While waiting, we ordered two more small plates but just got tired of waiting and decided to leave. We did get an English menu but no one really talked to us, no one really assisted us and everyone around us kept getting food while we waited-it was a very strange experience, not indicative of our time in Japan. The prior reviews mentioned such a “warm welcome” and “such helpfulness” but we didn’t experience anything resembling those reviews? Maybe on a slower night, they have more time available to assist the English-only tourists. To be fair, they did get us two seats but we felt like an inconvenience. With so many great reviews, maybe we just had a rare bad experience. However, it was bad enough for us not to try again. Went w three stars because anything lower I reserve for rude behavior or horrible food. We received neither.

The area is littered with friendly homeless people - Japanese culture means that they are not the nasty types you might get in the west. The restaurant is intimate & our chef / owner is a pleasure to have a chat with. He grew up in the area & while university educated he has a strong association with the locals. Good food - probably not in Michelin class but very tasty. Enjoy the chat, have a beer or any of the spirits available & get a real understanding of the area. It's good to get an understanding of life away from fancy hotels & restaurants.Thank you very much!!!I will keep on doing what I always wanted to do!!Look forward to seeing you again!!!

This is decent sukiyaki - the sauce itself is good, naturally the finishing udon is delicious, and the price is reasonable. I don't think the foamy egg white or cheese dips serve the best quality meat well, but overall you get a tasty meal in a nicely situated restaurant. But you're already accustomed to sukiyaki or Osaka dining, make sure you keep your expectations in check. This is a good restaurant that offers discounts for Trip Advisor reviews, not a shining star of Japan's kitchen.
