Reviews on American food in Vicksburg, Mississippi, United States. Sitting high atop a bluff overlooking the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers, the city of Vicksburg was the setting of a bloody 47 day siege during the Civil War. The site of this epic battle is now Vicksburg National Military Park, preserving original fortifications and the U.S.S. Cairo, an ironclad gunboat that once prowled the waters of the Mississippi River. Vicksburg is also the place where Coca-Cola was first bottled, a fact that is happily immortalized at the Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum.

My wife and I dropped in here recently while staying in Vicksburg at the Duff Green Mansion. We had already eaten at Rusty's Riverside grill, so we only needed a drink or two (though other people were eating). There was a guy with a sense of humour on a keyboard keeping the small crowd (either sat at the bar or in small groups at tables) entertained with his singing. The drinks were cheap ($3 for a choice of canned beers), the music & humour entertaining and the decor like something out of American Pickers!Go there!

This restaurant is doing the best job of several that have been renting at our Country Club. They are open for lunch as well as dinner most days of the week. They have fairly quick service. And, they have expanded the dining room area in order to support more service organization meetings and banquets.

Like everything in Vicksburg, McAlister's is hard to locate and difficult to reach. We were passing through and spending the night when we saw this McAlister's Deli. We enjoy McAlister's but this one needs some attention from the company's quality control people. My wife's salad was okay and my club sandwich was not bad but neither of them measured up to what we usually find at McAlister's. The wait staff were polite, but I would not return to this restaurant - especially given how much effort it requires just to locate it.

This is a gem nestled in a strip mall just off Halls Ferry Road. My wife and I were the only non-locals in the restaurant. Business people, single women, construction workers, police, and fishermen. Everyone seems to like it.My wife had grilled oyster PoBoy and I had fried oyster PoBoy. We both shared what had to be one of the best Gumbos we have ever had.

Beechwood Restaurant & Lounge in Vicksburg, Mississippi, has earned a reputation as one of the state's top 10 eateries for steaks and burgers. And they've been doing it since 1956. Located at 4451 Clay Street, at the intersection of Highways 27 and 80, Beechwood is an old-fashioned steakhouse that emphasizes southern recipes and a menu of mouth-watering martinis. Add a full bar and live entertainment and you understand why Beechwood is of popular dinner destination. My wife and I started by sharing a grilled chicken Caesar salad. For an entree, she chose the Beechwood Classic, a six-ounce filet mignon with shrimp, baked potato, hot rolls and butter. I passed up the 12-ounce filet mignon with single-loaded potato, sour cream, green onion, bacon bits, cheese and creamed spinach in favor of the shrimp lovers plate, which includes four jumbo fried shrimp, four jumbo Cajun grilled shrimp, four jumbo shrimp scampi, baked potato and steam broccoli. Yes, I love shrimp. Since I was a kid, almost 70 years ago. For dessert, we shared a large slice of pecan pie. Beechwood has been in business for 63 years. It's easy to see why.

10South will be a relaxed & casual restaurant and bar located on the rooftop of the First National Building in Downtown Vicksburg. Guest will have the option to sit indoors or outdoors on the terrace overlooking the Mississippi River. Opening Spring 2014!
My husband had the blackened catfish. He said the fish was very dry. I had the shrimp and grits. It was good but there were lots of different ingredients that complicated the dish. Strawberry cheesecake was very good. The view was outstanding! The live music was so loud we had to shout to hear each other.

I had no idea what to expect, but the recommendations were right! Rusty's has great food. Surprisingly great seafood salads and local favorites. The fried green tomatoes were perfect and the fried soft shell crab was done just right. The same for the rest of our meals. Service was attentive, friendly and prompt. It was worth the detour from I-20.

Went there last night for dinner because our 2 suggested restaurants were closed on Monday. We were very lucky to go there. The restaurant is in a restored mansion, restored and decorated with period furniture. The food was superb and we got to tour the place before dinner. Sure beat coming back in the morning for a tour. My wife had the fillet and I had the chicken piccata - we recommend both. Food was great and portions were huge.
