It has a population of 2,172 according to the 2010 census. Since 2000 it has had a population growth of 2.9 percent. The village, and the town that surrounds it, were named after the canton of Glarus in eastern Switzerland. The community was founded in 1845 by immigrants from that canton and was incorporated in 1901.

Our friends suggested this establishment for lunch. Their special today was meatballs in beef gravy over mashed potatoes with dinner rolls and fudge brownie for desert. Meal served with either soup of the day or a small salad. Most of us had the special. The other member of our partly had a burger with fried cheese curds. The meals were all super economical. They have most of the New Glarus beers on tap. Pool tables, slot machines, and several TVâs also found in this establishment.

A typical Culver's, which means great tasting burgers and fries. How can you ever go wrong with this place? A staple, so Wisconsin feeling, fresh food. Good service.

We always stay at the Chalet when we are in New Glarus. We eat breakfast there and usually at least one dinner. Everything we've ever had has been delicious! The fondue is wonderful. The schnitzels are all delicious. The weekend breakfast is beyond compare! We love the roesti.

I've been cycling the trail to New Glarus since 1986. This is my favorite place to sit and have a few of the least expensive drinks in town. I love to people watch on the front porch when the weather is warm. The bartenders have all been nice, bless the couple that have passed over the years, but they seem to get very personable ones to replace them. As a traveler can walk the streets and stop at about 10 drinking establishments, this one is not to be missed. The menu is limited, but people seem to enjoy a social gathering, It is the type of place a larger group and talk, drink and enjoy. I recommend this stop.

We were in New Glarus on our way home and wanted a quick dinner after visiting the brewery. A lady had recommended this restaurant, so off we went.Service was super slow and when my husband's food came, his side order of french fries consisted of 5 fries (really?)... My burger, which was listed as a "1/3 lb" of top beef, could not have been more than 1/4 lb (or even less) or smashed down beef that was over cooked. Came completely "bare" no lettuce, onion or tomato.. I hardly ever write reviews on restaurants, but just think you can probably find a better place.

We stopped by for breakfast. What a lovely place. The workers seem to love their jobs. We were warmly greeted & shown our table. Their menu changes every couple of days because everything is locally sourced. My spouse had The Farmers Breakfast. Eggs, toast, bacon @ potatoes. I had The Scrambler & potatoes. The potatoes were the best ever. Not sure how they did them but they were crispy fried on the outside & perfect on the inside. My eggs included veggies and cheddar cheese. We were very pleased and cannot wait to return.

My colleague had insisted that we'd certainly be able to find a great meal while traveling thru Northern IL/Southwestern WIS in New Glarus. Using the great collective wisdom of asute tripadvisor contributors--we identified Kristi's as a place where we might seek a decent meal (& a good martini!). We were not disappointed as my partner opted for the lamb-chop special while I did the steak/shrimp combo. Both were delicious as were the salad & sides--just as important we appreciated the friendly vibe from our helpful server Lauren & local patrons. The proprietor herself Kristi came by our table and we were able to compliment her on a great dining experience for these two road-warriors.BRAVO to entire Kristi's ensemble!!

My wife and I came in here for lunch on a recent visit to New Glarus. When you walk into the place you're in the bar and you'll see all of the New Glarus taps with their great beer. We both ordered a grilled pork tenderloin sandwich that was outstanding. Great service, old-school hardwood floors and a warm & rustic atmosphere make it great for lunch, dinner or just a couple of beers. I'll call it a must-visit place. Cheers to Glarner Stube.
