Nicholas was very helpful in deciding what to order. Also, when I didn't care for the appetizer, he discounted my bill. I thought the house-made short rib ravioli was fantastic, as much for the yummy tomato/mushroom/veggie sauce as for the pasta. The sweet potato dumplings for dessert weren't dumplings at all, but flash fried "donut holes" with ice cream and caramel sauce.

Visited because of a friend's recommendation who grew up in Charlottesville and visits this restaurant when she returns home for visits. We had two apps/small plates each and enjoyed them thoroughly. My Manhattans were made perfectly. Our waiter was knowledge, pleasant, and professional. We sat outside in the pleasant courtyard. The exterior of the restaurant is unassuming but don't let that deter you. Though we didn't have full meals, the menu has very interesting and appealing offerings. It is a little pricey but it's worth it.

If you love burgers and have a great appetite, Citizen Burger Bar in Charlottesville is the place to be. Their burgers are twice the size of Jack Brown's burgers, and there is no portion control with regards to fries and other items served in their menu. We had the chance to visit during lunch time before a game, and it was extremely crowded with people coming in and out. We were quickly seated in our table and had the chance to order the fried pickles and mushroom and swiss burgers with truffle fries. Both items were more than generous and quite tasty. In addition, they have a great beer selection and they have a full bar if you want cocktails. I would recommend Citizen Burger Bar before a game or event in the area anytime!

Had the pimento fritters which are very good! I had the local mushrooms which were excellent! The local trout was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We also had fried green tomatoes and one of the dinners had collard greens and liked them a lot The biscuits were big and light and fluffy.

We were traveling home from our Virginia Beach vacation and looking for somewhere to have lunch. Found this place on TripAdvisor so we stopped & and I am so glad we did! My husband had a pork chop with greens, mashed potatoes and corn bread and I had a bowl of pinto beans with a piece of cornbread and a side of mac and cheese. This place is the real deal. The food here is true down home cooked food. We both had drinks and our bill was just a little over $18. When traveling to or through Charlottesville, I highly recommend you stop at Mel's for lunch or dinner, you won't regret it. See my attached pictures

I donât know what was better- the food or the service!! The food was unreal and Kayla was like having a 3 rd friend st the table!! The fish was delicious and the crab cakes were the best I have had in years! We canât wait to return!! Thx !!

Public was hosting a party, so we sat outside. It was a little warm, but that was to be expected. Unfortunately, many of the oysters were sold out at 5:30 pm. While disappointing, we enjoyed our happy hour meal. The waiter was not very attentive and seemed to prefer the indoors.

My wife and I ate dinner for the first time at The Ivy Inn Restaurant recently. The food was very good. My wife had ravioli, and I had the angus beef tenderloin. My steak, ordered medium rare, was a little more on the rare side of medium than expected, but the taste was excellent (next time, might ask for âmediumâ but since this was a first time visit, I cannot say whether this would be a pattern or just a one-time observation). Dessert was also excellent. We will definitely return next time we are in the Charlottesville area at dinner time. Great restaurant, inviting, cozy venue.
