Great campervan stop

Reviewed By DawnLunaRose

This was a great spot for an overnight while passing through KC. It was just too chilly to be spent without electricity. There is no primitive camping but if you have a conversion/camper van you can use their RV spots with an electric hookup. They also have cabins. There is a store during business hours and a code give for bathroom and shower house. They also had decent Wi-Fi and some satellite TV that we didn’t use. It was $32-$36 a night for the RV spot depending on the day of the week at the time of this review. I would stay again for sure. The parks weren’t open but I could see staying here when they were being a great advantage for families.

Family owned and Mom & Pop operated camping & cabins located near Cuba, MO. We acquired the previously known Birds Nest Lodge established in the 1890s in 2018 and renamed it to Meramec River Resort. If you're looking for general camping or RV camping, we have several campsites with hookups as well as a primitive camping section with no electric or water hookups. We have a convenience store in the main lodge as well as offer fresh made pizza on the weekends. We have canoe, kayak and raft rentals as well as portage for our 3 & 8 mile floats. We have been refreshing the grounds and buildings since, so please forgive our dust. We have recently renovated many of our 15 cabins and are currently renovating the rest as we slowly refresh this resort. We have RV hookups at our campsites and primitive camping available as well.

The worst place I ever booked in my life

Reviewed By shopdrop033

My husband and I are from Ohio. We were traveling across the country for a vacation. My husband booked this place online based on the pictures and reviews. We thought we would have a clean, nice cabin on the river. When we got there we were absolutely horrified to see the condtion of the property. It was a mess and clearly had been for a long time. Worse was the cabin the granddaughter took us too. It was literally the most falling down gross place I had ever seen. I was horrified. We set the keys to the so called cabin down and left. On the way out we looked in a few other cabins - they were just as gross. There pictures online are fake the reviews must be as well. I have stayed at a few places that were pretty bad, nothing was as horrifying as this place. And I paid over 100.00 for this. And of course another 120.00 for the place me and my husband drove too some miles down the road. People shouldn't be able to get away with false advertising like this.

Owners Dave and Christina and staff went above and beyond and then some to tutor us on RVing and made our stay wonderful. Helpful and gracious beyond our wildest expectations. We will be back!!!

A Rustic Stay in a Rustic Cabin

Reviewed By Jrntucson

A rustic stay in a rustic cabin. We had originally booked the handicapped cabin but after seeing it we moved to a premium cabin. I’m claustrophobic and it was just too tiny! The premium cabin was much roomier but had a low rider commode! A little tough for this arthritic old body of mine. The bed was sufficient but the left side was a little high sided. A full size refrigerator was nice. And the cabin was sufficiently furnished. The screen door was a little unusual as it was inside the outer door and swung in with no lock to secure it. Only one window and it had no screen. The shower was a standup only with no safety bars.

St. Louis West/Historic Route 66 KOA

This is picturesque camping as it was meant to be - with lots of trees, a babbling creek, fireflies and a campfire (with s'mores!) Under a starlit sky. Located on Historic Route 66, this beautiful KOA is less than 1 mile from Six Flags St. Louis. It's less than 30 minutes from other St. Louis attractions, including the Gateway Arch, Forest Park, Missouri Botanical Garden, Museum of Transportation, Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Grant's Farm and riverboat rides on the Mississippi. Meramec Caverns, Purina Farms and wine country are also nearby. New this year: Geming mining station, fun cycle bikes, Full-time Director of Fun, activities/amenities. Groups enjoy the renovated pavilion and new air-conditioned meeting space. Railroad buffs can stay in the newly renovated red caboose.

Would not recommend

Reviewed By lisamJ5498AY

The water was not working at the patio full hookup site that we reserved for one night. Unfortunately we did not discover this until we had already hooked up the electricity and sewer. We had to unhook and find water to fill the tank. The next morning when I went into the office to report the problem Ian working on the office was incredibly rude and basically said he didn’t believe that the water pump wasn’t working. I’ve enjoyed all of the other KOAs I’ve stayed at and never been treated so poorly. I would never even consider staying at this campground again or recommend it to others. Ian’s people skills should be worked on if he is going to be the person that people meet as they come to this campground.
