Discover Restaurants offering the best French food in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. Saint Paul has been called the last city of the East primarily because early developers built it to fit Eastern standards: city squares or parks, towers and turrets, lofty arches, Baroque domes and elaborate adornments abound. Ideal for families and those who like to explore on foot, the capital of Minnesota offers big city attractions with small town manageability. It's an easy and scenic stroll along the banks of the Mississippi River from the Children's Museum to the Science Museum. The kids (and the young at heart) will love them both. Nearby are the grandiose State Capitol, designed by esteemed architect Cass Gilbert and the historic Como Park, which includes lovely picnic areas, a zoo and a conservatory. Also in the mix are modern museums, stately old mansions, interesting natural wonders and unique shops to browse around. Be sure to check out the stellar collection of contemporary works by local artists at the Minnesota Museum of American Art. From four-star luxury to affordable and family-friendly, Saint Paul offers a variety of lodging and dining possibilities making it a great destination for all tastes and budgets.

Our weekend brunch visit was lovely! We arrived a little early, but no problem, we were promptly seated at a window table with wonderful views of the Landmark and Rice Park. There were lots of people opting for the outside patio as well - it's on the street, but traffic was light. I would call the interior "American French Bistro". It's casual, yet a little elegant, not too far off from a spot on Montmarte. And the waitstaff were all very "Minnesota friendly" and yet professional. We sampled eggs benedict (great, except for overcooked muffin), crepes, American breakfast, and more. With the exception of the burnt muffin, everything was excellent. Although, portions are more European sized than American, so don't expect huge platters of food.Walked through the bar to the bathroom and had to pause to ogle the beautiful seafood bar with so many wonderful oysters. The bar also reflects that modern french theme and, I understand, has some happy hour options. So, good food, great staff, raw bar options. Nice and prompt service. Yep, I think we'll be back.

Sad to say... slightly disappointed. My daughter picked Salut for her 16th. Drinks came SLOW. Food just seemed a little below par. Calamari was great. Escargot an effort... does Salut now not give proper eating utensils... at least, when asked for, they brought us wooden pick forks to get our snails out of the shells. Bouillabaisse... my favorite dish... disappointing.... crab legs were obviously cooked, kept warm, dried out and thrown on top before the dish was served. Will probably be back to give Salut another try but as my wife said “Do you think it has just gone down a notch?”. Yes.

I enjoyed two visits for breakfast. Salmon scramble and blueberry pancake are very good. Very good coffee. Good service. Yes, you have to walk through a floral/gift shop to get to the cafe. Street parking usually not a problem. Great little place to meet a friend or enjoy breakfast on your own.
