Maryland, United States Food Guide: 5 European food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Bethesda

December 23, 2019 Kandra Bartel

Find out what European restaurants to try in Bethesda. Bethesda is an unincorporated, census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. In Aramaic, ܒܝܬ ܚܣܕܐ beth ḥesda means "House of Mercy" and in Hebrew, בית חסד‬ "beit ḥesed" means "House of Kindness". The National Institutes of Health main campus and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center are in Bethesda, as are a number of corporate and government headquarters.

My wife and I visited the K Town Bistro and found it to be a cozy, charming little restaurant in the Antique area of Old Kensington. The restaurant has only 13 tables. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. My wife ordered chicken marsala and I opted for the steak. Each was prepared perfectly and the accompanying vegetables were terrific. We decided to splurge and ordered 1 cheesecake with strawberries for dessert which we shared. It was extraordinarily good. If you are looking for an excellent meal in a delightful restaurant, you will not go wrong booking at the K Town Bistro.

Our national trade association is headquartered in Bethesda. We held our annual Staff Appreciation Holiday Dinner at Bistro Provence in their private room on the second floor. Both the food and service was outstanding. It was one of the best group dining experiences I have ever had.

Tyber Bierhaus

Had visited Tyber Bierhaus for dinner while in Bethesda. Had a seat at the bar and was noticed immediately. Unfortunately their beer selection was a bit limited for my tastes, so I just had one beer with my dinner. Dinner was the sausage appetizer, which was decent if not particularly memorable. The menu does offer a lot more and will visit again in Bethesda to try a larger meal.
