Reviews on Southwestern food in Bethesda, Maryland, United States. Bethesda is an unincorporated, census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. In Aramaic, ܒܝܬ ܚܣܕܐ beth ḥesda means "House of Mercy" and in Hebrew, בית חסד‬ "beit ḥesed" means "House of Kindness". The National Institutes of Health main campus and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center are in Bethesda, as are a number of corporate and government headquarters.

We visited Bethesda and found Gringos & Mariachis to be very authentic Mexican food. The Staff was also quite friendly & quick. We will return again. Besides the food, they have quite a list of creative & unique drinks. We asked for some adjustments to some drinks, like replacing tequila for mezcal, and they gladly accommodated our requests. Net, very worthy experience.

This is a great place. Its quick service, nice decor, convenient. Its located in downtown paid street parking. We love the decor. The staff is everywhere cleaning, serving, bringing nachos. We got chicken fajitas it was tasty with Mexican rice. We had flan for dessert. It was served cold tasted like cheesecake with caramel. It was a good experience

Very busy popular place in Bethesda. Unfortunately, food is only marginal. Frozen Margarita was decent. Chips are way too thin and break in any side except the over-roasted, roasted salsa. Table-side guacamole was poorly prepared and under spiced. Absolutely worst enchiladas I have ever had...hard and tasteless...small portion of beans with dry rice. Fajitas looked good and should have ordered those instead. Noisy and overpriced...will search elsewhere for good Tex-Mex in the DC area.

We came on a Thursday before a Strathmore show, and it was already packed by 1830. I love Mexican and I love innovative street tacos, so I really wanted to try this place. The vibe was good, if not more urban and less traditional cantina. Our waitress was friendly and helpful in making recommendations. I had a margarita and my husband had a cocktail; both were tasty but didn't pack much punch for the price. The tacos were tiny and hit or miss. Even the ones that I liked I was disappointed, because by the time you got a taste of it, it was gone. I especially liked the Mexico City Pastor, and the Baja Fish was pretty good as well. The crispy kale and the cauliflower ones were underwhelming. It was good to try once but I don't think we'll rush back.
