Tepanee Beach Resort

Close your eyes and imagine the ocean, blue, clear and uncontaminated, then think of a white beach where you can relax during the day and from which to observe a sky so rich in warm shades at sunset to leave you speechless … now open your eyes and come to experience this and more at the Tepanee Beach Resort. Malapascua is the beautiful little island of the Philippines that hosts Tepanee: an intimate and welcoming resort where you will have the opportunity to spend an unforgettable holiday of relaxation and diving, enriched by a tasty food and wine proposal, suitable for a varied international clientele. Link together the idea of your holiday with a truly unique welcome, staying in cottages overlooking the ocean.Rooms and cottages, built in perfect harmony between functionality and respect for the environment, overlooking the Pacific Ocean or on lush gardens adorned with frangipani, the fragrant flower that gave our name to this corner of paradise. It's holiday time: we wait for you! Malapascua is the beautiful small island of the Philippines hosting Tepanee: an intimate and friendly resort that will give you an unforgettable holiday. Tepanee stands on a small hill that rises up from Logon beach and our territory goes down to our own private sandy beach, an area isolated from the rest of the island from where it’s possible to admire breathtaking sunsets in an area secluded from the rest of the island and where we placed beach umbrellas, sunbeds, a gazebo for massages and our lovely Chiringuito beach bar. In addition, in the hill adjacent to the reception is our panoramic Amihan restaurant. The name TEPANEE comes from the name of the Polynesian frangipani plant, a tropical tree that graces our gardens with fragrant flowers of various colors. Historically, the concept for our resort followed a philosophy of low environment impact. Most of the building materials are natural and local: wood, bamboo and stones used for the main structures, roofs made of a typical straw named kogon. The buildings are almost invisible from the ocean, even if many are built right on the seaside. Opened on December 8, 2008, Tepanee in the beginning was consisted of 6 independent double cottages and one building of two storeyes with 4 triple rooms. We have grown, and can now offer you: Deluxe cottages: independent buildings with a superb ocean view, the best in Malapascua Island, facing the sundown. They feature: aircon, ceiling fan, en-suite bathroom, hot shower, minibar, safety box, balcony with sofa, queen size double bed with option for one or two extra single beds, bamboo and wooden furniture, wooden floor, entrance door and windows with mosquito screen and blackout curtains, free wifi, daily cleaning service. These cottages can accommodate up to four people. Superior cottages: independent buildings with aircon, ceiling fan, en-suite bathroom, hot shower, minibar, safety box, balcony with sofa, queen size double bed with option for one extra single bed, bamboo and wooden furniture, wood floor, windows with mosquito screen and blackout curtains, free wifi, daily cleaning service. Some cottages can accommodate an extra single bed for a fourth person. Some cottages have the ocean view, some have a partial ocean view, some have the garden view. Standard rooms: together in two different buildings of two storeys. All the rooms have a double queen sized bed and a single bed, a have private entrance, aircon, ceiling fan, en-suite bathroom, hot shower, minibar, safety box, balcony with sofa, bamboo and wooden furniture, wooden floor, windows with mosquito screen and blackout curtains, free wifi, daily cleaning service. Some rooms can accommodate an extra single bed for a fourth person. The Standard rooms have partial ocean view or garden view. Evoking an island feel, the resort boast of cozy and excellently constructed rooms that also utilizes natural materials such as bamboo among others. The rooms are decorated with colourful walls and unique bamboo beds, offering both air-conditioning and a ceiling fan with a year round availability of fresh ocean breeze that can be enjoyed from our spacious balconies. It is also furnished with a mini bar, a safe for your valuables and wifi connectivity throughout the property. One thing you won't find in our rooms though, is the television as we feel that this distract guests from all the natural beauty this island has to offer. We provide for the wifi in all the resort. Please, note that we are in a remote island and the service sometime may be slow or discontinuous. Since December 2012, you can eat and drink right next to our private beach, at the Chiringuito beach bar, where we serve breakfast and lunch, snacks, drinks and natural fruit juices, cocktails, with soft music in the background. In May 2013, we opened our new Amihan restaurant, in a panoramic position on the hill at the new entrance of Tepanee. We are serving the amazing Italian cuisine that Amihan had already become renowned for: pizza, vegetables, fish and grilled meats, pasta and pastries, tropical fruit, wine and much more. Tepanee Beach Resort is located in a non-flat area: from the reception to the rooms and the beach on the back there are stairs to go up and down. The steps are wide and low, but they do exist: please be aware of this when choosing our hotel for your stay. We do not provide hair-dryers and television. We provide beach towels upon request and with payment of the laundry service. We accept credit cards payments: Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB (bank transaction charges apply). We also accept cash payments in Pesos, Euros and US Dollars. Check-in is possible from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Check-out must be completed by 12:00 noon. Reception is open from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. During your stay you will have direct assistance with everything concerning scuba dives and diving courses, which can be easily booked through us. Please contact our reception for all the informations and to book the dives. Tepanee organizes transfers from and to Cebu City/Airport/Pier at any time by private van and boat: our boats arrive and depart from our private beach, located inside the Tepanee Beach Resort area. There are 144 kms of paved road from Cebu City to Maya, the port where to take the boat for Malapascua; then there are 8 kms by sea from Maya to Tepanee Beach Resort. The road ride takes about 3 hours, while the boat ride only 30 minutes. About pick up transfers, please note that the last boat departure allowed by the Government from Maya to Malapascua is 6:00PM, so consider to overnight in Cebu City if the flight is landing after 2:00PM. About back transfers, the earliest departure from Malapascua is 6:00AM and we have to schedule the departure from Malapascua at least 7 hours in advance if the for an international flight and 6 hours in advance for a domestic flight. Depending on the schedule of the flight, please consider to overnight in Cebu City the night before the flight: for example, if the flight is an international departure at 12:45, it's necessary to leave Malapascua at 5:00AM but this is not allowed by the Government, so it will be needed to leave Malapascua the day before (or choose a later flight, of course). Just contact our reception, please, for all the informations and to book the transfer. Our staff are delighted to respond to your requests, and we are certain that you will have all you need for relaxing and memorable holiday.

Snorkeling with sharks

Reviewed By MinhAnhQuach

Lovely resort which has a marine life protected beach. You can snorkel with harmless sharks, thanks to Andrea’s tip, the helpful owner. Service was excellent. Food and drinks were good and affordable, but for some reasons there was no fresh fish available during our stay. We had to go to the local night market to find it. Definitely a place to check out/stay at.

Amazing time and team at Evolution Dive Resort – Highly Recommended !!!

Reviewed By boazf522

We came to Evolution Resort on April 7th evening after 2 long days traveling and without our luggage and our diving equipment that did not arrive to Manila with us. The team that was updated by our agent (WildDive) on our situation were waiting for us with a warm and very friendly welcome , they made sure that we will have some new shirts, diving equipment and everything needed for our stay and diving until we will get our luggage. They made all efforts and were in touch with our agent, the airline company and who ever needed to make sure that our luggage is found, safe, on the way to the Island and finally to our room – just amazing! We stayed 5 nights in an AC DBL room that had been great with a nice view to the sea. The dives and specially Monad Shoal and Gato Island were WOW. Food was great and the WHOLE team were AMAZING, everyone did his best to make sure that we will enjoy and we really did. We faced the edge of an unexpected Typhoon including closing of the island by the coast Guard which held us for another day but the great team, again made everything needed for us to feel good. We want to thank everyone for the hospitality, professionalism, solution to every problem and creating a wonderful feeling for every day of our stay. Highly recommended also for a long stay for those who want to relax and forget everything and of course the dives are amazing, special and beautiful. So Big Thanks to Matt and the whole team and hope to come back soon.

Location great, friendly staff, but otherwise mixed review

Reviewed By KhanKluay

Due to a last minute decision, to sqeeze in a few nights at Malapascua Island, the better hotels like Tepanee were already booked out. Pro: + top location at the cliffs at western end of Bounty Beach, just a few minutes walk away from the restaurants + friendly and helpful staff + spacious Deluxe Suite w/ ocean view, overlooking the entire Bounty Beach while sitting on the balcony + fair room rates + arrangement of private car transfer from/to Cebu Airport on request was reliable and at a very reasonable rate +/- simple but ok breakfast Underwhelming: - very sparsely furnitured "Deluxe" suite - not bedside lamps and tables, not bedside light switch, no amenities other than a little shampoo bag and 2 t-paper rolls, kind of careless - bathroom wasn't clean at arrival, crooked bathroom door hinge. Bathroom door cold only be closed by application of force - during low tide very shallow, not swimmable beach Not the fault of the owner is a misleading foto, posted by a fellow traveller, that shows a swimming pool, which looks very nice. The only problem is, that it is from whatever Blue Corals Hotels elsewhere on the planet. But defo not from Blue Corals Malapascua, which neither has a pool, nor pretends to have one. I got trapped by this foto, too. Bottom line: Hotel ok for 3-5 nights, when the price is right, but not sure if I would book again.

Over a month of travelling around Philippines and this has been by far the most amazing and our favourite place to stay, even though it was during typhoon. From the moment we walked in, we had a very warm welcome and were treated like part of the family for the duration of our stay. The rooms are beautiful and very well thought out, all have balconies or small terrace where you can relax. The main restaurant/bar area is also incredibly welcoming with comfortable tables and beds. There is a pool table, football table and various board games to keep you entertained. Huge choice of food, so you really will never be bored of eating here. I honestly can't praise this place enough!!

Pleasant surprise

Reviewed By moniquecover

My husband and I booked at Angelina at the recommendation of a friend. First of all, the night we arrived, we literally walked out of the ocean from our boat onto the beach in front of Angelina. We dropped our suitcases and asked for menus at the restaurant. After traveling for 24 hours, all we wanted was wine and food. The pizza was delicious! (Needless to say, we ate there at least three more times that week.) From the start, the staff was always attentive. They walked us to our room after dinner, where they had already moved our bags and turned on the AC. From then on, our room was always clean, and the staff was always helpful. Our Asia room was lovely with a seating area and balcony. The shower was great, except the drain would clog. We would definitely return.

There are lots of hidden costs that may confuse you if you are travelling on budget

Reviewed By Dr_Igor_1971

I stayed there for six nights in the budget room. This hotel is quite a distance from the famous Bounty beach (15 min walking distance) where the most dive shops and restaurants are located. Hotel staff delayed my check-in by almost 3 hours from time scheduled by hotel in Agoda (10:00 a.m.). By the day check in, I was arriving at 10:00 a.m. and being told that room was not ready to check in. After few hours back to hotel I was still being asked to wait for the room as according to hotel staff check-in time in Agoda.com website was stated incorrectly. Room was outdated, broken down, and dirty. The furniture in the room was stains and there was a terrible damp old smell. Pictures of accommodation do not reflect the reality of it at least for budget room. The biggest downside is the water because they use "salt water" for tap and shower. As I understood the water they provided via the tap and shower is actually salt water filtered from the ocean as it is very salty and had weird taste especially had weird taste especially when you’re brushing teeth. They only provide body soap and shampoo and towels for toiletries. There are lots of hidden costs that may confuse you if you are travelling on budget. There is aircon in the room but you are allowed to use it only for extra cost (and this info was hidden in Agoda.com page). They do provide water only at the reception or at the restaurant for ₱20, so you have to have your own empty bottles to refill yourself. Breakfast was very mediocre with an additional cost ₱160. I do not advise to stay in this hotel as you can definitely find better options for this price. Transfer they provided is for around ₱2,500 one way for 2-3 persons. You can do it cheaper as following: Taxi from/to Mactan–Cebu International Airport to/from Cebu North Bus Terminal, PHP (₱): 230-250 Bus from/to Cebu North Bus Terminal to/from New Maya Port or Old Maya Port, PHP (₱): 200-230 Ferry from/to New Maya Port or Old Maya Port, PHP (₱): 100
