Mackinac Island Hotels | Places to Stay in Mackinac Island

July 10, 2022 Tynisha Seiler

Charming Mackinac Island is a throwback to old-timey seaside leisure, from the candy-colored facades of downtown shops to the impressive (record-breaking, in fact) front porch of the Victorian-era Grand Hotel. Mackinac is world-famous for its homemade fudge, available in every flavor you can imagine. Work off your sugar high with a round of golf, a bike ride along a seaside trail, or exploring the limestone bluffs of Mackinac Island State Park.

We were very pleased that we chose the Island House for our family trip to Mac Island this year. Everything is perfect. The only thing I would mention is that we wish that our suite was facing the water.

Room was accommodating and staff was very helpful and friendly. We had an issue with one of the bikes we rented and they rushed us out a replacement. The package includes ferry passes, money towards any meal or beverage, so very flexible.

Inn on Mackinac

The year was 1867, an era of horse-drawn carriages and ladies in bustles. Blacksmiths were crafting horse shoes in glowing forges. During this height of Victorian culture, the Inn on Mackinac was built. Known then as Chateau Beaumont in memory of the famous Army surgeon at Fort Mackinac, the Inn on Mackinac has retained its quaint, old fashioned charm. The Inn’s facilities have been updated to meet the needs of the modern traveler while preserving its colorful history. Today, completely remodeled and redecorated, this beautiful Victorian Inn opens its doors, where the very special charm of our family-run Inn awaits you.

HORRENDOUS customer service

Please be advised how unhappy we are! We reserved a room in January, 2022 and looked forward to returning to the Inn we enjoyed so much last summer. Unfortunately, on May 25 I was advised that I need hepatobillary oncology surgery. I immediately emailed the Inn on Mackinac only to be treated god awfully by Krystan the GM. We were to arrive June 7…that is the day of my surgery. She refused to cancel my reservation and said I was not eligible for a refund because my 14 day cancellation window closed May 24 at 11:00pm. No regard for my health, surgery and well being. They STOLE my $1,800 and said tough luck! Such a negative mark on your beautiful island.

Wonderful place

This property was in a nice location – close to town but out of the main fray. We had a room with a beautiful view of the harbor. It was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. One thing we really appreciated in our double room is that it had 2 comfortable chairs and 2 luggage racks – very nice. Some of the paint needs to be touched up and the chairs needed reupholstering. Breakfast was ok – we wished they had more options that weren’t high in sugar. Bikes were available at a good rate – but only 1-speed coaster bikes. There was a lovely front porch for relaxing as well as some nice common areas indoors. We’d definitely return.

Nice hotel with a few issues

Reviewed By LoriP1305

Pros: Close to ferry and the porter takes care of all luggage from the ferry. The front desk is friendly. The beds are comfortable and it is clean. Also quiet after the 10PM pool closes. Most rooms are surrounding the inside pool/hottub. Cons: The shower is scalding hot and then freezing cold the next minute. We found this at most times during the evening. If you take a shower around 5, the water temp. results are better. No computer/printer to print boarding passes and the front desk staff don't know how to print it for you until a mgr. comes on duty at 8AM. Even when emailed to mgr., the boarding passes didn't print correctly and were not accepted at airport. Room wasn't ready and was told we would receive a text when they were ready. Never received a text and finally went back around 6PM to check. They were ready but they didn't know why we nor the other party traveling with us didn't get a text.

Warm whirlpool for the winter

What a lovely place to stay in the off season! I had one of the king rooms with a big whirlpool. Service was friendly and we had everything we needed except some silverware for takeout. Otherwise, the island was so calm and relaxing compared to the busy summer season
