Luzon, Philippines Food Guide: 10 Asian food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Manila

September 18, 2019 Osvaldo Hartline

Reviews on Asian food in Manila, Luzon, Philippines. Metropolitan Manila encompasses six cities and 12 towns. Located on Manila Bay in the South China Sea, and bisected by the Pasig River, the capital of the Philippines is historic and modern, rich and poor. A popular sight is the walled area called Intramuros. The capital during Spanish colonization, Intramuros has retained old dungeons and gunpowder rooms but added art galleries and theaters. The city is filled with museums, shops, parks and churches, plus enough nightlife to last until dawn.

For reasonably priced seafood dishes, this is the resto. We always go here when we have blow-outs. They have a table that can accommodate 15 people. This is the hang out of some politicians too!!! The place is not that fancy but clean and the food is good. I like their chicken pie, the tao so fish , the bamboo shells in tao si and the baked rice. Parking there is challenging though. They open from lunch up to dinner. They also have rice toppings and noodles for quick lunch or dinner. They are reasonably priced. Sometimes i go there for take-out when i am in Chinatown.

There is Forever @ Cafe Adriatico I have loved you from the very beginning my eyes laid on you. And just like wine you age with grace... And every time with your old ways, I always find something new. Everytime I visit Manila, It's a must... I just go crazy with Cafe Adriatico's out of this world desserts. I normally would have 3 various slices and 2 to go. My top favorite us called Canonigo w/ mangoes.I love their version of braso de Mercedes soft merengue, balls of Philippine mangoes and condense milk syrup. This dessert will take you to another heights, like eating white clouds in heaven, totally melts every bite in your mouth, I meant do not chew, do not bite, just put it inside your mouth on top of your tongue and just feel the sensation as the merengue disappears by itself and leaves you gasping ahaahaahahaha!!!!.. after you keep your composure, it's time for a mango ball and syrup and this concoction of ingredients bring you to the second level of foodgasm... w/ a sip of strong brewed coffee you're ready for the second round... of triple chocolate mouse., buttery & crispy sansrival, etc.,etc.,.. now get ready for your metformin and tell the waiter to prep your pineapple upside down cake for take out and what ever is left... I should say 5 star for desserts, ambiance, attentive quick service and overall experience... So since the eighties until now, you have been my forever. My Cafe, my very own Cafe Adriatico. I swear, I will be forever married to you.

Food and ambience was excellent. But the service is a complete disappointment. The wait staff and food service crew need serious re-training and reorientation on customer service. Waiters obviously ignore diners needing service. They will just walk by your table and pretend not too see you even if you are already raising your hand to call their attention. I wonder why the waiters always look straight at the walls of the dining hall or on the restaurant floor while doing their chores. The waiters crossed by our table several times before we were able to call their attention to order tea/coffee and ask for refill of our water glasses. I even had to approach the restaurant manager, Ms. Edwina Mondonedo, and give her myself our bill with the credit card to pay, as no one from the service crew seemed to have the interest to come back to our table. Quite embarassing to our guests from the US. I hope the restaurant manager and head waiter will seriously take action with the feedback we gave them.

The menu is quite extensive and has everything from fowl-seafood-veggies etc. We were impressed with the menu. Not your trypical western style Chinese offerings. I’ve seen dishes here not available in any other Chinese restaurant in Manila. We ordered the hot and sour soup(not on menu) , Cantonese style roast duck and squid with salted egg! All washed down with a Tsing Tao beer. Enjoyed our dinner. Will certainly come back.

The first time I ate here, i wanted to order everything. I actually ordered almost everything. Their vermicelli roll in sesame and peanut sauce is the closest thing to the one i tasted at Macau. Their machang or glutinous rice in lotus leaf is okay. It’s my forever favorite food. There are better-tasting machang in Chinatown. But this one is okay. The rest of the food is great.
