Very good hotel.

Stayed for one week as part of Tui package. The hotel is in a great location only a short walk form the old town of Lovran, which a small town which has a lived in feel about it. There is a bus stop within 50 metres of the hotel where you could catch a bus to Optajia (30 mins) The rooms were of a very good size and had both a bath and a shower, we paid for a sea view and had a balcony with fantastic views over the sea. The room had a fridge and a easy to use safe as well as air conditioning. The room was spotlessly clean as was the hotel in general. Both breakfast and evening meal were taken at the hotel, breakfast was very good with many different items all were of good quality . Evening meal was also very good with a lot of variation and each time had several meat and fish options as well as a local option. A special word for our waiter-Oggen who was very polite and attentive , a real credit to the hotel. A good hotel with good staff.

Very nice place if it hadn't been for the tour bus

Reviewed By sandiablonde

We stayed here three nights. Wonderful room. Large with a balcony that over-looked the Adriatic. They even had an automatic blind system that you could lower at night to block out the light from the street and the noise. The hotel does sit right on the main north/south coastal road in Istria and so there is traffic for most of the night. With the shutter down, it was quiet. Unfortunately, the shudder broke the second day but the staff was very good about it and moved us to a nicer room one-floor up with a better view. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Wonderful location. Bed was a bit uncomfortable and the pillows were rather small. The only real problems we had was that one, there is limited parking and if you don't get back to the hotel in time, it will all be used up and then you're screwed. I was screwed. Second, there was a tour bus here that stayed two nights. This was both a good thing and a bad thing. Bad thing was that the stupid bus parked right in the front of the hotel, right under our balcony and would run its engine in the morning -- yuck -- and the people from the tour, Germans I do believe, were rather rude and pushy. Good thing was that with that many people staying at the hotel, they had a buffet dinner that wasn't all that bad. Lots of food and choices. Problem was fighting with the tour group for the food. Dinner was included in the price for us. Breakfast was nice. Buffet also and well stocked. On the second night my wife and I ate somewhere else because it was her birthday. On the third night, the tour bus was gone and so was the buffet. We were offered two choices for dinner and it was basically left-overs from the buffet the night before. Waiters were rather surly and sloppy looking. I had the calamari which said it was to be grilled. It was fried and I've had better calamari in the US in land-locked New Mexico! Not the best of experiences for the money and the food wasn't even Croatian. I wanted to give this place a higher rating, but too many issues to allow for that. Not sure if we would stay here again.

Elegant and cozy

Villa Eugenia is people and pet friendly. The rooms are spacious (even the attic ones) and the views from the balcony are really nice. Breakfast room is very nicely decorated, the choice is quite rich even for vegans. Lots of parking space. The only "minus" is no direct access to the sea and the location by the road so you can hear some traffic if the windows are open.

Careful!

We had a weird evening at this place . Not the hotel, but the restaurant. He told us that he doesn’t run the restaurant anymore, but for us he would make a exception. We had to choose between two menus and that was it. He asked us to pay cash. When we dared asking about the price he told us 300 kuna, per person. In the end we paid 950 kuna, because apparently the wine was not included. The meal was definitely not worth the price, rather simple, but ok. The entire thing was a bit strange…. And disappointing. But could have been beautiful!

Not near its potential

As always- it is very hard for me to do a proper review without feeling a bit bratish ( is that even a word), however I'll try my best. This is a 4 star hotel with , which in my book is almost 5 star. Differences in that rating are usually quite subtle. That being said, I expected a bit more from this hotel. One might argue that beginning of May is not quite a high season just yet, but since the hotel was full that statement is debatable. I'm mentioning that because the hotel feels either out of the season or seriously understaffed. When we arrived only one of the owners was there and nobody else. She was very polite and nice however she should not have been alone in a hotel. The day after , during the breakfast, only one guy was taking care of everything around. Him too was on the top of his game. With him being the only guy ( and was later joined by one more) it is not a surprise that most tables there were not set. Not only that, but outside tables were completely naked and not prepared for anything. That was very dissapointing because that terrace is one of the hotel's strongest points. Our room was nice and clean however, as it is situated on the ground level, the isolation feels terrible- you can hear every little thing, especialy in the morning-. Not only that but you can also smell onions cooking quite nicely. Hotel has a nice little pool with lovely view. Too bad the weather was not quite there yet,but one could spend the whole day here, just chilling and relaxing. Food. Hotel's chef is a very talented young guy and we were quite privileged to try his 9-course tasting menu (for dinner). Food was fantastic and the portion size for a tasting menu was XXL so we got stuffed. Our waitress was very attentive. Breakfast on the other hand was terrible. I've seen better breakfasts in two star sleazy hotels. Keep in mind that this is a 4-star hotel but there was barely any food here- some salami, barely few portions of jam and that's it. You can order a coffee or a tea and some eggs, but for 4 star hotel, the breakfast is disgraceful. I just hope we caught them in the wrong moment (out of season??). On one hand everybody is very polite, location is beautiful, it's very quiet most of the time, food is fantastic but they certainly don't function like a well oiled machinery. People who are willing to pay for such a hotel don't really care if it's a season, holiday or whatever. Having a proper service is THE most important for a hotel to have and while this hotel's staff is professional and polite, it feels like 5 people is doing the job for 20. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Good location, clean, nothing special

Went there as a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids-11 years). The location is good and the rooms are clean. We had a room in 3rd floor without elevator which can be tricky if you have heavy luggage. Take care with the price: the hotel charges extra for city tax (ok), insurance (??) and reception (?????). Pool and other facilities ok. Parking is also 10€ extra.
