Reviewed By elisapN5333VEthe hotel was praised family friendly, but that's wasn't our experience. We also had some unfriendly encounters with the person at the lobby. Our expectation for him was to be be obliging and offer help. Instead we were told to wait 20 minutes as he had some calls and other things to do. The room, especially the bathroom, was not really clean. e.g. there were still splashes on the mirror from the previous guests. Also: There was really really loud music from other guests outside our room. Despite a one-time intervention by the hotel staff, the music was not turned down. But nothing else was done either. All in all a disappointing experience and not worth the price.

A delightful hide-away
Reviewed By Marye SThe Chateau Saint Martin is a place with enormous character and we received a warm welcome. We stayed for a weekend in the chapel. It was so peaceful. At night all you could hear were the owls calling. It's an ideal place to chill out. The kitchen area was extremely well-appointed, beyond our expectations. We could have cooked a four course meal if we'd felt so inclined. There is a very good supermarket a few minutes away by car where you can get everything you need for self-catering. Pedro and Sophie do a table d'hôte in the evenings, when, if you wish, you can share the evening meal and conversation with the family and the friends who often drop in. They do both bed and breakfast and self-catering but we only have experience of the latter. The grounds are very attractive, with plenty of space for children to play safely. The surrounding area is very interesting, with pretty, historic towns like Sallies de Béarn and Sauvetierre within easy driving distance. A longer drive will take you to Saint Jean Pied de Port with its long history as an important town on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. We had a memorable little holiday, and can warmly recommend the château and its charming hosts.
