Except for the quaintness of this restaurant AND the pretty tasty meal, everything else receives failing marks! Because we were a group of more than 40, we reserved in advance for dinner. The establishment required a downpayment (yes, a downpayment), with which our host complied. We then pre-ordered so our meals would be ready when we got there, with close coordination between our group coordinator and the restaurant staff. Lo and behold, when we got there, none of the food we ordered was cooked, there were unavailable items from our ordered list, and it went downhill from there! Obviously, our group anticipated that any restaurant in a place like La Union would be overwhelmed by our big group, hence, the pre-ordering. So we waited, and waited, and waited, with intervention from our coordinator and hosts, who practically stood by the cooking staff AND the wait staff to get things done and to hurry them along. Our companions even served some of the drinks from bar to table because everyone there was overwhelmed. If the food weren't good, the whole evening would have been a complete disaster! The oysters, the inihaw squid, the bagnet over greens, the beef (tadyang, I think), the pinakbet and more...were scrumptious. Although we waited for a long time, our food turned out delicious. And when paying time came, we had to wait for a very long time again because the restaurant didn't have a system. The orders they wrote in smaller pieces of paper were all written onto a larger piece of paper (yes, indeed, redundant), the prices then written down, then totaled by hand (yes, indeed, they could have used the calculator on their cell phone, but they apparently needed to exercise their brain mathematically)...Two of our group members tried to teach them a faster system but they wouldn't do it...so with all of us already piled into our vehicles, we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. Then, c'est fini! We couldn't get away from there soon enough. Management: train your staff; anticipate bottle necks, problems; no reason for the deterioration of service since early on, our host already paid partial to insure our reservation and called again to confirm our orders... BAD BUSINESS, what happened to us.

My fiancé and I visited this establishment, because the sign outside boasted of large portions. When we arrived in the morning I first asked if they took my credit card, and they said they were a cash only restaurant. No problem. My fiancé ordered eggs and corn beef, and a mango shake I ordered eggs and bacon and coffee. First off, you order up at the register, and it is a piece by piece order which is cool because you can order what you want.Ok the first bad thing. The coffee is not hot, such that when you put cream in it, it does not dissolve. Not only did I have this complaint, but all the tables around me did as well. The food was not cooked great and my bacon and toast were cold. It seems like the cook does not know how to time their cooking so some of your food is hot, while other parts are cold. Other tables around me were complaining because they would bring one dish out, and then ten minutes later they would get another dish, and so on.The mango shake was the worst I have ever seen, and my fiancé wouldn't even drink it. It was basically pure ice and milk with no taste of mango at all. Even the color of the shake was white, and not that deep orange you see at most restaurants. As well, the restaurant is completely exposed to the outside so the entire time we were being attacked by flies. The prices are also pretty much the same as other , much nicer restaurants like Kahuna right down the street. The staff is friendly, but the food and environment makes it so I would never go back, and the portions are not large at all like their sign was boasting.

It's good to see stores/restaurants caring for the environment and Clean Beach is one of them. As their store name suggests, they push for a clean beach with their use of ceramic cups, glass handles, metal and bamboo straws. Definitely, no waste. They even give a Php10 off promo for customers who would bring their own tumblers. They also sell bamboo toothbrush and reef-friendly sunscreen. We were supposed to dine in El Union but a local suggest we try it here because they have the best coffee according to him. Their iced coffee latte did not disappoint. We came back here the day after during breakfast and tried cappuccino and I loved it! It was stronger than most cappuccinos I've tried before but I loved strong coffees so this is okay for me. My sister thinks it was too strong though. Their coffee art is also awesome! I think they also offer breakfast options like kaya toast and eggs and would like to try them when we come back in LU. The staff are also very friendly and chatted with us kindly. They also have hammocks and the cafe is near Flotsam and Jetsam and just along the beach so you also have a good view while having your coffee.

Nice place in La Union. Quite popular. Took the BBLT sandwich. Beef is savory and it's well garnished, although the bacon was kind of chewy. The wedge fries are good, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Pairs well with their cheese dip but there's also regular ketchup for those who like it simple. It's P385 for the combo meal (with fries and drink) so it's a bit pricey for the size, but it's still worth the try.Very good meal.

We tried their creamy tuna and shrimp pasta, buffalo wings, spicy sardines pasta and matcha green tea latte. We loved all that we tried.Creamy tuna and shrimp pasta is very flavorful and the tuna does not have a nasty fishy after taste. One of the best. Spicy sardines pasta has just the right amount of spice, it may be too pale for those who really seek spiciness. Buffalo wings sauce and ranch dressing is very tasty and tangy, it can compete with other buffalo wings and the winning point of this resto is their relatively lower price. My sister also loved the matcha green tea latte and said it's as good as Starbucks' but for only Php90, this is a sure win. Also loved that they did not use disposables or plastic in serving their food though I noticed they use one-time straws in their frappes. The ambiance is very homey and positive and the glass walls and windows give it an airy and bright ambiance. Books on shelves are all over the resto. My friends and I agreed we could go back to LU just to experience this resto again, and all other restos which we loved in LU. Would definitely come back!

We just had dinner here last night per the recommendation by the folks at Open House ( cool shop above El Union Coffee). The place has a nice, laid back vibe and the service is warm and relaxed.Everything we ordered was high-quality and delicious— Char Kway Teow, Satay Chicken, BEGG, Pork Sambal and Tacos set, and presented nicely! We ordered from the ground floor kitchen/bar and are upstairs. We had the place to ourselves ( 14 people).I definitely recommend Papa Bearif you are in San Juan beach in La Union.

We deliberately arrived here 4 hours before check in so we can have early lunch at 10am. The restaurant staff said they could not accept our lunch orders as they were still serving breakfast. Understood. They hesitatingly accepted our pre orders at 10:47am but served our dishes quite quickly after at 11:20 am. We ordered the cheese pizza and the meat lovers pizza for the kids; the Salo Salo grilled set with squid, bangus, inasal chicken, pork bbq, kinilaw na tuna and talong salad.; the crispy pata, kare kare, blackened tuna and chicken cordon bleu. The food was at best ok. Nothing spectacular. The crispy pata was a disappointment because it seems it was cut before being fried so it didn’t have that combination of crispness and chewiness one looks for in a crispy data. The kare kare was obviously cooked with peanut butter and used beef chunks. Not the best we have tried. The star for me was the inihaw na bangus- flavorful. Net, the lunch itself was ordinary but we enjoyed it with the view of the ocean.Another point- the rest rooms were unclean and my request to have them cleaned before use fell on deaf ears.

We had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at Awesome Hotel Restaurant, we arrived at lunch time and ordered a very pleasant bottle of Chardonnay. We enjoyed it's crisp coolness while overlooking the ocean and enjoying the breeze. From the very broad and comprehensive menu we selected the Norwegian Sushi Boat. The experience of devouring the delicious Norwegian salmon with a great wine from the coolness of the restaurant while watching the happenings on the beach was second to none. The quality and quantity of the food was so brilliant and we enjoyed it so much that we decided to stay the entire afternoon and eat dinner there as well. We wanted to try local cuisine for dinner and from the extensive choices available we decided on Chopsuey (vegetable stir fry) and Lechon Kawali (deep fried pork belly). The vegetables of the Chopsuey were incredibly fresh and delicious and the succulent pork belly was cooked to perfection. We really could not have wished for anything better and were completely and utterly satisfied.
