Hotel M's Est Shijo Karasuma

2017.03 OPEN! Great location away from only a minute walk from Subway Shijo staion and Hankyu Karasuma station. There are bus stops nearby, and it is good location as a starting point for sightseeing in Kyoto. The bed named "Maro" is the original brand that was codeveloped with Simmons. Together with the attentive linen and amenity, it clears the end of the day. ※From October 2018, Kyoto City has made it mandatory for guests staying at hotels in Kyoto City to pay an "Accommodation Tax". Please note that the tax is paid separately upon check-in. (Per person per night, less than 20,000 yen: 200 yen, 20,000 to 50,000 yen: 500 yen, 50,000 yen or more: 1,000 yen)

Budget hotel in an Awesome location!

Was staying in Hotel M's Est Shijo Karasuma in Kyoto from 13-16 Jan 2020. The location is simply awesome, like 3 min walk from the 2 nearest stations, Shijo and Karasuma station & 7 mins walk to Nishiki Market. Juz so u know, there’re plenty of nice restaurants or eateries in the surrounding area. The room although small (Norm is Japan), is designed rather cozy & look pretty new too (maybe gd maintenance). I like the fact that there’re hangers in the room for us to hang clothes (which is not always available in many hotels). The bed was fine, I requested for lower pillows & my request was acceded. The AC / heater system was also working perfectly. The room was always kept clean and tidy. The staff were friendly & helpful too. The WiFi is fine too, totally no problem surfing Youtube @ all, even in the showers. Ultimately, I think this is still a gd hotel for those on a short sojourn & is looking for convenience in locations. Wld definitely come back here if I return to Kyoto!

Great Experience. Cave Onsens!

Reviewed By SandBTokyo

This hotel is an amazing experience and we loved it. Hotel Urashima is built on a peninsula in the harbour. You can take a boat to the front door or park abotu 5 minutes away and take the bus. The bus comes regularly and drives though a tunnel to the lobby entrance. There are five main buildings for the hotel, all connected by tunnels and walkways. The highest building is Sanjokan which can be reached by elevator or escalator, very long escalator. It has great rooms and is the higher end building. We stayed one night in Sanjokan and enjoyed an amazing view from the room and a beautiful dinner and breakfast. We stayed another night in Nagisa, which is the harbour front building. Very nice room, but be sure to request non-smoking as we discovered one floor smells of smoke so strongly it will knock you down. Dinner and breakfast was also nice. Nagisa had a nice game area for the children. The other two buildings seem OK. Honkan is probably the oldest. Best part of this hotel are the cave onsens. Super great experience. Onsens built into the cave overlooking the ocean. Staff were all super great. Highly recommend staying in Hotel Urashima. It is worth visiting the area to enjoy the hotel and cave onsens. There is a convenience store in the hotel that has pretty much anything you need.

Exceeded my expectations!

Reviewed By Dcuniverse

We were looking for a "value hotel" and got a great deal from a travel site.. booked this hotel at more than HALF THE PRICE of similar hotels in Namba and nearby Universal Studios Japan. At this price, we were not expecting too much (just the basics and adequate comfort ). We were blown away as this hotel exceeded all our expectations ! It's located very near Sakurajima Station. Travelling from Kansai Airport to the hotel is a breeze, with just 1 quick transfer . The stations have elevators so its very convenient. You can easily wheel your luggage to and from the station to the hotel. Location is also within walking distance to USJ and a Ferry Service which will take you to the Osaka Aquarium. As mentioned, its readily accessible by Train. (as low as 190 yen or $1.70 one way fare to Namba/Dotonburi area) After a tiring day from walking all around Osaka, we would stop by one of the 2 nearby convenience stores (Lawson and 7-11) to grab some midnight snacks (or for breakfast). Or, you may just head straight to the hotel and get snacks from it's 3 vending machines. They even have an ice cube dispenser with cups. Grab some free amenities at the lobby on your way up..must haves are the Sakura Bath Powders for a hot dip in our room's bath tub to sooth our aching feet and muscles. Water Closet is very high tech and one the i would only expect from a 5 star hotel (in fact the 5 star hotels I've been to don't have this) La'gent really made us feel its our home away from home.

Yumekaiyu Awajishima

Yumekaiyu Awajishima is located right in front of Ohama Coast on the eastern coastline of Awaji Island, an area selected by the Ministry of Environment as one of the most enjoyable swimming areas in Japan. Situated in a good location, it is easily accessible from Kobe (approximately 90 minutes away) and Osaka (approximately 120 minutes away). The hotel’s large communal bath uses the myth of Japan’s creation as written in the “Records of Ancient Matters” and the “Chronicles of Japan” as its motif. With facilities like the Umine-no-Mori Annex Spa, where guests can enjoy a monthly-changing medicinal bath, the hot springs facilities are also quite fulfilling. The hotel is equipped with the Stella Terrace which gives a panoramic view of Osaka Bay, and an indoor pool that is usable all year long. The hotel provides guest rooms ranging from standard Japanese-style rooms to premium relaxation rooms on the special Nagomi floor, all of which can respond to a variety of purposes. Guests staying on the special Nagomi floor will be able to use the exclusive lounge that provides them with a free drink and internet connected PCs.

Spacious Room with a Decent View of the Ocean

Reviewed By jjhome123

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night around New Year's. Parking is free with your stay, check-in was smooth and the concierge helped take our luggage upstairs to our room. Our room was located on the 6th floor of the hotel facing the ocean. Power lines and the trees obstruct the beach view, but past that you could see a nice view of the water. The room itself was very clean and came with all kinds of amenities. There are two public baths inside the hotel - one in the main building on the 6th floor and one in a building adjacent to the main one. I recommend going to both for the experience but budgeting more time for the one on the 6th floor as the baths are much nicer there. Also one thing we noticed was that the outdoor baths were restricted to the male baths only, and my girlfriend was slightly disappointed that she couldn't enjoy an outdoor onsen. Included in our stay was dinner and breakfast. Dinner was a course meal that had two items that could be chosen from a selection (I had a fish and a steak dish). Overall the food was very good, we had no complaints. For dessert you could choose a variety of items from the restaurant's dessert buffet. The cakes and ice cream were pretty mediocre, but the gelatin-type desserts were quite good. Breakfast was a standard buffet at the same restaurant that had a variety of Western and Japanese selections. We especially liked the dried apricots that they served near the yogurt and cereals. Overall a very good stay for a relaxing New Year's. Would recommend to couples visiting Awaji and wanting a more luxury experience.

Terrible service, old rooms, rowdy crowd

Reviewed By Graceful_Empanadas

I had a good impression upon entering the beautiful garden, and service was fine until I showed my foreign passport and the reception staff immediately switched to broken English... Some of them like to practise, so I don't really mind, but he cut out a bunch of things that other staff were explaining to the people beside me. The worst was he just left me after checking in to bring my own luggage to the room 3 halls away!!! I have never ever had to do that at a hotel, lest a ryokan! The room hadn't aged that well either and really needs an update. The tatami mats were discolored in patches and it didn't feel very clean. The baths were so busy that you'd never be able to get a key to the private ones, and you'd be lucky to even get a washing station at times. The only good thing was that there was a variety of facilities at the onsen, like cold water, hot water for pouring, plum salt etc... The private bath in the room was small, but actually pretty nice, except the view from my bath window was a garden hose. Dinner was a circus show. Lots of kids screaming around and people talking loudly. You had to line up along the stairs to get into the hall at your desired dining time! Food was below average and poor at times because of the quantity that needs to come out. Service was so lacking as a whole, so much that I needed to switch to the other seat because plates weren't cleared and I couldn't access the nabe! I enjoyed my other lodging at Shirahama so much better. Look elsewhere if you want a quiet onsen experience with good food and service!

Very dirty with lots of bugs

Reviewed By Holidaze24

Just to be honest from the outset- me and my husband did not spend the night and sleep here. We were so concerned by the cleanliness of the hotel that we asked for a refund (we were supposed to stay for 2 nights). We originally quickly put our bags in our hotel room, went to the beach, then returned to the hotel. It wasn't until we returned from the beach that we actually property looked at the state of the room. The room itself was big. However, the doors to the outside were left open, so when we arrived there were lots of spiders and mosquitos around. There was also a dead fly in the ceiling light and what looked like spider nests all around the ceiling of the room. There was also countless, random stains all around the room. While this is a small detail, it is also worth mentioning that the hotel also stated it had WiFi available in all rooms when we booked through Expedia. However, it was only available in reception After complaining about this room, we were shown another room by the hotel staff. However, this room still had bugs in it and was equally dirty. We were offered a third room, but by this point, just wanted to leave. We have backpacked around Japan for 3 weeks now and have been in a combination of hotels and ryokens, as well as Western and Japanese style rooms. We have pretty low standards when it comes to rooms and have never asked for a refund on any hotel until we came here. We booked the hotel through Expedia, but the hotel wanted to give us cash refund. We felt unsure about this, but just wanted to leave there as soon as possible. I was originally not going to leave a review. However, the positive reviews of this hotel are what led us to choose it- and we personally feel as though they are not accurate or a true reflection of what we experienced at the hotel.

Sowaka

Sowaka is a Sanskrit word meaning “happiness” or “wellbeing.” It is a word of blessing, often spoken at the end of the Buddhist sutras that echo through the innumerable temples of Kyoto. Once across the stone threshold, you are instantly transported to an oasis of calm. Relax in one of Sowaka’s 23 individually designed rooms, listening to gentle breezes blow through the green and tranquil courtyard.

A perfect balance between modern and historic

Reviewed By bella428510

Location is fabulous - Sowaka is situated within a 3 minute walk to Maruyama Park, a 15 minutes walk to Minamiza Theater where we saw the Geisha dance - a must see, a 20 minute walk to a great vegan organic restaurant, 10 minute walk shops, restaurants and other site-seeing destinations. Property is absolutely lovely - we visited here during Japan's emergency shutdown and so was able to see other rooms as well as our own in the main building. The main building is historic. The annex building is new. I wanted historic and so can only share about the rooms in this part. Each room we saw has lovely detail and feels very peaceful. Our room looked out to a beautiful Japanese garden in the middle of all the building. Staff is top notch. Every staff member was happy to help. Each offered guidance during booking rooms at Sowaka, booking tickets, getting taxis. I felt that each is proud to work at Sowaka. I felt they really wanted us to enjoy ourselves. Breakfast was a little disappointing but it was a small inconvenience which is why the hotel still is excellent in overall rating. This ryokan will be our 5th, most in Kyushu prefecture. We know a great breakfast when we experience it. The flavor, variety maybe.... Consistent with the service at Sowaka, the staff deducted those breakfast amounts from the final bill. The best times to go to Kyoto is to see cherry blossoms and autumn colors. Since cherry blossoms bloom for only maybe 5 days without strong winds and rain, it was difficult to know when to arrive. The staff changed our reservations three times to ensure we didn't miss the cherry blossoms. I'm sure the availability was due to Covid-19. Normally, everywhere in Kyoto is booked one year in advance. We loved Sowaka so much that we already rebooked the same room in December to see autumn colors.

Kobe Luminous Hotel Sannomiya

Rather new hotel. Large twin room. Good amenities. Nearby shopping street.

Reviewed By mingzy

Hotel is about 10 min walk from Sannomiya Seishin Yamate station easy connection to Shinkansen station at shin-Kobe. There’s an underpass that links to the shopping street. Very convenient especially in the cold winter. About 15 min walk from the port liner. Not the nearest hotel but for the price, room size and quality, it’s value for money. 5 min walking distance to Daimaru department store. Lots of food and shopping nearby. The twin room is large even has a sitting area for 2. New hotel environment with comfy beds but only 1 pillow. Double sides- one hard one soft. The toilet has a large bath tub and modern toilet. The hotel lobby also has a selection of bath salts for you to enjoy soaking in your bath tub after a long day. Free water bottles for drinks too. Only downside of amenities is the toothbrush is sooo hard! They should select a soft type. Room cleaning is efficient and removed all trash. Good hotel to choose when visiting Kobe. Walking distance to many attractions like Meriken park, even Kitano foreign district around 15-20min. Lifts are too small though. Can only carry about 4-5 people with luggage each time. So prepare to leave early or you will wait a long time for lift at peak hour.
