The "Wilbur" is an oceanfront hotel located a half mile from the Wright Brothers Memorial and features all non-smoking rooms and suites. Reviewed By Paul T CMy wife and I were just passing through the area and needed a place to stay. We had read a review on this inn and, although the review was not very flattering, when we got to the hotel it looked fine to us. And it was. I have no complaints. The room is clean, comfortable, and right on the water. I would certainly go back again.

Reviewed By glenn wWe arrived at the Best Western looking forward to our stay. We entered the front desk area and the lady was very nice. We picked up our room key (card) and went to our room. A little trouble getting in. You have to play with the card multiple times to get it to work. Once the green light comes on you have to lift up on the door handle. Once the door handle is up you have to push the door open to get in because the latch doesn’t clear completely. Once inside you wonder what happened in the room and why it looks like that. The carpet had spray paint on it along with some of the cabinets. The air conditioner in the bedroom was so loud you had to turn up the TV to hear it. The power for the A/C came from what used to be the bedroom closet because you can see the hinge where the door used to pivot. The power came from a flexible conduit to a plastic junction box. The conduit was attached with just one clamp. It would be very easy to pull it out of the box by getting some clothes hung up on it while removing them from the “closet”. The bedroom had a glass wall with a glass door on it. You could barely see out the glass it was so dirty. The door wouldn’t open. Move to the bathroom. You have an outlet in the bathroom but it wouldn’t work. So you dried your hair in the other sink area. Moving to the living room. Nice TV. But none of the seating was aligned so you could see the TV. Again the wall was glass with a door in it. Again the door didn’t work. You strain to see through the dirty glass so you could see the knoll but it was covered with trash. I don’t know what the code is in Kill Devil Hill but this room has a safety problem as there was no secondary egress from there.

The room was clean, the pool was awesome, and the close beach access was great. The staff there are so considerate, thoughtful, and attentive! We had an accessible room, so the queen size bed was way bigger than we anticipated! It was more like a king size and very comfy. The continental breakfast was also delightful and the hours were great. I love visiting OBX every year, but this was my first hotel experience rather than renting a house because it was just me and my wife. We were very pleased and will most definitely be back! -Lindsey M.

Our property features all non-smoking rooms and suites with a complimentary hot breakfast and afternoon refreshments. We are located a 1 1/2 miles north of the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. All rooms and suites feature: microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker and free Wi-Fi. There is an outdoor pool on-site (open seasonally) as well as a guest laundry. We also have 1 or 2 bedroom suites for those wanting to be together but have a little extra room for their stay. Our 2 bedroom suites and some of our 1 bedroom suites also feature full kitchens. We have oceanfront, oceanside and pond side rooms and suites available.

Reviewed By Bobbye RThe hotel is extremely misleading with their photos of rooms, continental breakfast was literally nonexistent, wifi did not work at all. Upon checking in we were told to choose the strongest wifi signal and given the password, if it did not connect then we were told to call the 800 number on the card and not the front desk because they could not fix it. The room had seminew carpet that was not laid properly, it was peeling up in the corners of the room. That was the only updates done to the room at all. The tub would not hold any water while plugged, we had to flush the toilet numerous times due to low pressure. Going to breakfast the first morning I was extremely surprised to learn the only hot item was coffee. After looking around they had prepackaged muffins, cinnamon raisin bagels but no toaster to toast the bagel's, small single serve cereal. In the cooler there were small bottles of juice, milk, water plus two microwaveable breakfast items. On the second morning the only added item to the breakfast menu were a cheese danish. The room had prior occupants in the form of flies which we could not get rid of at all. The mini fridge was plugged in however it stayed room temperature our entire stay. I had to move the coffee maker to the sink in the bedroom to make coffee because it was the only outlet the cord would reach. This is not a hotel I will ever recommend to stay in.

Reviewed By OntarioTaffyNice reception and departure, with very nice staff. Room as was hotel showing some age, but clean. Comfortable beds with fridge and microwave and steps to the beach access. Nice pool next to beach, Breakfast was very basic with waffles and cereal, coffee and juices. If your travelling on a budget and want beachfront, recommended.
