Well located, fantastic staff

Reviewed By Mel_M802

My sister and I stayed here for 3 nights while we visited Katherine and the surrounds in March. The motel is well located for accessing Nitmiluk National Park, and also Mataranka for the hot springs in Elsey National Park. The rooms are what you would expect for a motel. They were clean and spacious which was what we were looking for and the AC worked very well. There was a coin laundry with both a dryer and a clothes line which were very helpful given the hot and humid conditions and mid March. We didn't use the pool area but it certainly looked very new and relaxing. The team also included a laminated A3 page with lots of restaurant and other recommendations for guests which was very helpful during our stay. I can see that during peak season parking on-site could prove to be a challenge, but we had no problems during our stay as part of the motel was closed for renovations. There appears to be ample street parking also available close by. We had breakfast included in our room rate which was fantastic. There was a selection of hot items (eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns etc) as well as your typical continental items like cereal, and yoghurt. It set us up for our day out at Katherine Gorge perfectly. The staff at motel/hotel can often either make or break it, and the Pine Tree Model has definitely hit the jackpot with Pauline, Claudia, Chris and the team at breakfast (I didn't get their names unfortunately). They were all lovely, and very helpful with any and all questions we had, and up for a bit of a chat. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend to others looking for somewhere to stay in Katherine.

Nice park, comfortable but dated cabin

Reviewed By ejm84

Really nice and quiet park. Great location, loved walking straight out the back of the property to the gorgeous hot springs (only a 5-10 minute walk) and a little way out of the town centre so no parking or noise issues. Friendly service at reception both for check-in and check-out (Dee is lovely). We had a standard ensuite cabin which was comfortable but dated, definitely needs a bit of maintenance (wooden door frames rotting, holes in walls, dirty curtains to name a couple of things). The double bed was surprisingly comfortable and the cabin was spacious enough for the two of us. It was lovely and cool when we arrived as someone had had the foresight to put the air conditioning on for us which was greatly appreciated. Handy kitchen and cooking facilities in the cabin including a full fridge. Cabins seem to be well soundproofed as we were situated right near the communal BBQ area but didn't hear anything even though there were several people about and the people in the cabin next to us were outside drinking until fairly late. The price was reasonable, I guess, for this time of year (top end dry season even though it was still stinking hot) but wouldn't be thrilled about paying that price again outside of peak season. We were happy with the service and accommodation and would stay again.

We were looked after very well by Prem. The room was great & very clean. It is a traditional motel near the Central Business District. There is an open-air “camp kitchen” which was very helpful. We were able to wash & dry all our clothes after camping in Kakadu for a week. Tracy & Steve

The Contour Hotel was on the edge of town and quite big with a decent pool area. The rooms and resort are in need of some maintenance and renovations. Staff seem to be in short supply like most places across Australia at the moment but they try hard. The restaurant on the other hand is a stand out and has absolutely delicious food!

The room service is once weekly if your long term . You get a sheet only on your bed no mater how cold you may feel there is nothing else . Leave a morsel of food and you will be attacked by ants . Arrived early and had music flogging my ears from 3 till 5 :30 . I’ve been here long term and wouldn’t recommend it to any one . I’ve had community camps providing better . On the up it has a gated car park to for 3 cars out of 18 odd rooms . If you can educate people to park you may get out when required for work if not aim for ten if your lucky .

Basic motel accomodation, disappointing.

Reviewed By petervK2047MI

Basic old-style brick motel block with multi-bed cabins. Very dated decor and bathroom facilities within each room I.e. shower screen water proofing and shower tray definitely showing wear of the years. Bed not terribly comfortable, double size for starters = quite tight fit for the two of us literally on the edge of the bed and not good mattresses in terms of firmness. Sign very clearly stated that not having washed our own cups or glasses would attract a $25 per day housekeeping charge - sorry but that is outrageous when paying over $200 per night. Lovely people in the restaurant and reception, very accomodating. Restaurant, Savannah Bar and Restaurant limited but expectable Outback Australian fare, of a high quality and flavour. On the fringes of Katherine, definitely need your own transport to access any alternative restaurants or shops. Good jumping off point to get to Nitmiluk Gorge Cruises plus location to get to Cutta Cutta Caves and other attractions nearby.

Great spot close to Katherine Gorge

Reviewed By Sue F

Enjoyed our stay at Discovery Park Katherine in a standard elevated cabin. The cabin is set well back from the main road, is a good size with a kitchenette and outside balcony. and was comfortable. There is a nice pool just behind the cabins - a great place to cool off, although not a lot of seating or shade available there. The park is very convenient to Katherine Gorge - a 20 minute drive- so an ideal spot to stay if planning to go on a cruise or tour . The only downside was the mosquitoes outside at night , making it impossible to sit on the balcony to enjoy the evening. Maybe an overhead fan and some mosquito coils might be useful.
