See a buffalo up close, live like a cowboy for a day on a working cattle ranch or visit a stagecoach stop on the Sante Fe Trail are just a few of the many vacation experiences possible in this state in America’s heartland. You’ll love the wide-open spaces and the opportunities to engage in a variety of one-of-a-kind experiences in this marvelous state, which has the largest segment of true tallgrass prairie remaining in the U.S. Regardless of where you visit: a major metropolitan area like Kansas City, a college town like Manhattan or Lawrence or engaging places like Wichita, Dodge City and Salina, there are a wide array of attractions and sights nearby. If you want to familiarize yourself with cowboy culture, visit the Boot Hills Museum in Dodge City, dine on all-you-can-eat barbeque and hear songs of the American Cowboy at Diamond W Chuckwagon Supper in Wichita or explore the Dickinson County Heritage Center in Abilene, which has dance halls, gaming rooms and 32 saloons. For outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, bird watching and other activities, three of the state’s most popular parks are: Cheney State Park near Wichita; Scott State Park near Scott City and Tuttle Creek State Park near Manhattan.

To be honest- I didn't expect much from an inexpensive hotel in Park City, Kansas. We were travelling to Colorado and this was a good halfway point. We were trying to save money ! The hotel was clean, showed signs of recent upgrades, and was convenient to restaurants ( and gas stations).

Very disappointing.

The room was clean and the staff was friendly. However they barely spoke English and we had a terrible time understanding them and they couldn't understand us very well. There was no phone in the room, no coffee maker, no blankets, no safe, a hole in the wall for kleenex but NO kleenex, and no ice machine on property. We had to go to a store and buy a cooler and ice. They were supposed to clean the room daily but we had to go to the front desk to ask for toilet paper. There was supposed to be room service but with no phone in the room I don't know how that would be possible plus there was no snack machines or drink machines in the lobby. So being clean was pretty much the only asset.

Bed bugs!!!!

Reviewed By Commercialtourist

This motel looks clean however during the night I was bitten repeatedly by bugs. I kept getting up with new welts on my rear and arms and finally used my phone’s flashlight to check the bed. Blood fattened Bed bugs were crawling towards the head of the bed in their way home after they had feasted on me! I crushed one with some toilet paper leaving a big blood spot on the sheet. That was it! I checked my bags, clothes and took a very hot shower wading myself repeatedly until I was sure there could be no bugs on me. Then I left the room at 5am. Bed bugs! Do not stay here! That’s all I can say.

Worst experience ever with a motel

Do not stay at this motel it was a genuine ripoff. I was in liberal so I made a reservation at the budget inn La Fonda in liberal KS through booking .com got a decent price had a confirmation number however when arriving at motel after driving 20 hours straight not only was the person at the motel extremely rude they would not honor the reservation I had through booking. He tells me I have to put a 300 cash deposit to honor the price. What adds insult to injury the sign in front of the motel had rooms "ONLY $45" yet he charged me $60 for the fleabag room I was too exhausted to go motel hunting and paid his ripoff price. The rooms were not that clean either I will post a bad review on all the booking places. I hope he enjoyed screwing me but the pen is mightier than the sword.

The Manor

A home away from home

Reviewed By CKay67

Our group of seven long-time friends from elementary school booked the entire Manor for a weekend. I had a conversation with Chris about staying in the Historic Wolf Hotel and his suggestion of this property was perfect for us with the reasonable price per room and homey atmosphere. The Wolf Manor is in a quiet neighborhood and was an excellent setting for our relaxed gathering. The large dining room, quaint sitting room, sunny porch and kitchen large enough for all to work in for meal preparations was exactly what we wanted. The house was clean with comfy beds for each of us, five having private a bathroom but two people/rooms had to share bathrooms. It was nice that one bed/bathroom was on the first floor as one in our group was unable to take the stairs. Wi-fi was good but we never used the TVs. We felt as if we were in a home, not a hotel. Breakfast was minimal (packaged rolls, bananas, milk, juice and coffee) but we enjoyed the Wolf Hotel's delicious chicken fried dinner at noon so it wasn't an issue. Before we departed, we took the tunnel tour. The previous night we had drinks at the hotel's speakeasy in the hotel tunnel, but learned a great deal on the tour - well worth the time! Chris was wonderful to answer all my questions in advance and on sight he was most accommodating. Our little adventure in Ellinwood will be hard to beat for our next gathering.

Could have done with some more blankets in the cold weather!

Stayed at Hoge Hall whilst on business in Kansas City. As other reviewers have stated, the building is a bit of a maze however once you are used to the layout this isn't an issue. Each room appears to have a kitchen, which is a good feature. The kitchens come with a complete set of cutlery and dishes, however for some reason they are left stored in the dishwasher! For my stay, I ended up buying disposal cutlery and plates and throwing them away after use - so had no cause to check the dishwasher. This means additional, unnecessary, plastic and paper waste. I only got one, slightly thin blanket to cover the bed. This is a real disadvantage - for the first few nights of my stay I woke up during the night several times very cold! If I'd know this would be the case I'd have brought a sleeping bag. More blankets needed for guests!

Schweitzer Hotel

Like a B&B but less expensive

Reviewed By Bapzzy

Kathy managed to cheer me up after a long drive. The place was decorated immaculately. Like walking back in time. Every corner and nook, the office, lobby, and rooms- created a warm, nostalgic feeling. My room was prepared with every amenity close by, beds and accessories all vintage. The building itself a historic landmark, was old and I could see the age affecting the walls and bathroom. None of that bothered me in the least. I was staying in a hotel that had the ambiance of 1930, The AC was a little noisy. I still slept well after I finally figured out how to operate that fancy thing. Ha!
