Comfortable enough, but old and dated

Reviewed By rogerlau77

We stayed here for two nights. There are two buildings and we stayed in the Japanese Wing. Both wings are similar size in terms of their building height. Our first room ended up having no WiFi , so we ended up changing rooms. Our second room was larger but in a lower floor (3rd floor as opposed to 5th). This second room was large enough to fit two double beds. There was enough space for seats and coffee table; TV and cabinet; and sufficient wardrobe space. Generally the rooms had a dated feel to them. There is a balcony looks over the hotel gardens and to the mountains. Although we were not on a high floor, we still had a really nice view. The balcony also houses the onsen bathtub, which is the feature of this room, so you can have a relaxing bath outside. There is another door connecting the tub to the separate shower area and toilet and sink. Towels and the provided toiletries were basic but sufficient. Toothbrushes and similar items were available on request rather than already placed in the room. The hotel caters for children in that there is a kids playroom at the main wing. It’s a fairly big room with climbing and slide facilities, which kept the children entertained enough. The pool and spa complex was of decent size. The outdoor water slides were open for use if you wanted to play in them, which we did and it was fairly cold in the winter air. There are outdoor and indoor spa pools of varying functions all for use as well, which were relaxing. There is also a public onsen for nude bathing, but we didn’t use. The gym looked quite small in relative terms; the basketball court was empty and a bit dilapidated; so as their small farm. They advertised a mini golf course but I couldn’t see it within the grounds. So generally the leisure facilities were not that great. Breakfast was in the other wing so a three minute walk from our building. It was a buffet type with an adequate range of local and international foods and drinks. No particular dish stood out. The restaurant itself was clean. We also tried another restaurant in the hotel. This one had a different decor to it than the breakfasting restaurant. We ordered a la carte, where prices and food were ok. The hotel is a little on the remote side so you’ll either have to take a taxi, bus or shuttle car to get to places. Overall a comfortable enough stay was had. However, it is not five star as they claim. Generally the hotel is showing its age and staffing could be a lot better for the rating they have.

Tsuwu Hot Spring Hotel

Tsuwu Hot Springs is MDW Consulting Inc.'s third resort hotel. Underpinned by many years of operational experience with Mudanwan Villa, the Group came to the Yangmingshan hot springs region and reappraised the Yangminshan bathing culture according to the area's particular terrain and climatical conditions, spring water quality, and human culture. "Tsuwu Hot Springs" takes wood, stone and other natural elements as its basic architectural tone. The hotel is built to follow the river valley terrain, and its views reveal the magnificent and mysterious interplay of mist and mountains. Two restaurants through their different styles present distinctly different food cultures and atmosphere: The "Chao Shan Restaurant" renders the warmth reminiscent of Mother's private kitchen, while beginning with the graceful presentation of a cup of tea, the "Tsuwu Library" sincerely offers a selection of delicate culinary creations. The "Tsuwu Public Hot Spring" and "Kaiture SPA" provide a reinterpretation of the bathing traditions passed down over the last century in Yangmingshan.

The resort is in the middle of now where, so it’s a good way to stay and relax and escape the city crowd. The front desk service was friendly and quick. The room was large with Swiss ate shower area and the hot siring area. The hot spring area was design by wood and rock. And it’s huge which good enough for 3 to 4 people. It’s only an hour from Taipei city. Great place to relax . Make sure get dinner and breakfast package for best relax. The room also have free mini bar includes drink and dessert.

Quiet and enjoyable stay

There is a private car pick-up from Taipei downtown to this resort and it takes around 55 minutes. The 2 different young lady driver who picked us up and brought us back to Taipei were both very good -- no matter on their driving skills and attitude. We already got a good impression when we stepped inside the car heading to the resort. The room we got was spacious with a large bathroom where there was a hot-bathtub inside. (therefore, you could enjoy a hot-spring bath once you arrived at the resort) Both the dinner and the breakfast we had were nice. You could also have a try of Japanese costume as you could choose at the lobby and try inside your room. (Feel free to wear it for dinner or breakfast time if you like cos we saw other couple doing this) Though it rained a lot during our stay and we didn't go out for a long walk, we were happy with this resort and will come back some other time.

Horrible Experience

Reviewed By CPleng

Saw a blog post and booked online. Totally disappointed with the hotel and service and I paid a premium price. 5600twd. I really wish to refund. They didn’t inform me that they are doing some minor renovation and thus there are no other guests. Dinner was decent, but breakfast was terrible, I pointed to the staff regarding a fly in the bread container and he did nothing about it. Room walls with water marks, it looks scary. I had torn bed sheet, no hot water, very old building and when I opened my door the next morning, they were actually doing some Painting touch up and the plastic/newspapers blocked the door. They have a few onsen pool, but they are all the same except a slight temperature difference. It’s a bit smelly due to the sulfur. The staff were talking and commanding another staff to do the measurement and take photos of the indoor onsen when I was NAKED right in there!! I was so pissed off. I hate myself why I paid so much and get such a lousy place. I hope the hotel could compensate.
