Hotel is nice, the town not so much

Reviewed By Critter3

I stayed here in 2010 and remember thinking it was a great place to stay. Don't get me wrong, it is a decent motel and normally it would get a 4-5 stars from me, but there was just some things that made me give it a 3. The first, which isn't a reflection on the motel itself, is that the area/town is filled with what people that are obviously down on their luck. The town likely has been hard hit by the economy, but the people we saw (about 10 just around the gas station we filled up at which is about across the street from hotel) didn't make us feel safe to walk around and explore, and we were concerned about safety for our vehicle and if someone would try and steal from it/break a window. Not something we want on a road trip. The reason I took away a star for this review is that the back ally continues right through the motel. So if there was someone looking to steal, they would have easy access. Likely low probability of happening, but not something you should have to worry about while on holidays. The second is that the Wi-fi was also poor/slow. Now a days you would expect to have sufficient wi-fi. The 3rd is simply just the price. There are not many choices for the area which is likely why they are able to charge what they do, but for what you get (and the local environment noted above) the cost of a room is maybe not worth it. The rooms themselves were good. Standard motel rooms. The one we stayed in was spacious. Had a balcony on the 2nd floor kind of overlooking the pool and grounds (which are nice). We never got to use the pool, but I did notice the hot tub was empty. I wouldn't tell people not to stay here, but I may look at other options next time.

Noisy

Reviewed By kthompson78

This is the third time we’ve stayed here, and we ALWAYS have issues with noise. This last time was probably the worst - you can hear your neighbors TV at 1:00am, loud knocks on doors, people talking, cars in the parking lot, everything. Don’t expect a decent nights sleep. The beds are also consistently uncomfortable and noisy. The decor in the room is dated and mismatched; however, the room was clean.

A Home away from Home

Reviewed By KelticKim

My husband and I keep coming back to the Redwood Suites as our base for exploring the north coast of California. The beds are comfortable, the dressers allow us space to unpack, and the tops are free of clutter so we have a place to put our motorcycle helmets. The living room and dinette are nice spaces to unwind after a day outside, and the full kitchen gives us the option to self-cater our breakfasts and picnics, and refereeze our ice packs. We like to walk over to the Victorian Inn for dinner, where we’ve always had fine food and drink and excellent service. The hosts are amazing! We’ve enjoyed walking around the charming Victorian town from there, including the hillside cemetery - a colorful place when the rhododendron are blooming, offering great views. By car or cycle we’ve made day trips to the Lost Coast via close by Petrolia Road, the many coastal redwood parks, Crescent City, and more. After a days activity, a comfortable place to relax with all the comforts of home is much appreciated.

AMERICAS WORST

Reviewed By CharlotteM452

This is the worst motel any of us had ever experienced. Apparently it is known, locally, as the 2nd worst in Eureka. The patrons didn't even attempt to conceal the drug deals and prostitution in the motel. The rooms smelled so bad that a person could never sleep in them. They were so dirty that we didn't even sit down while we searched for another place to stay. I doubt they employ a housekeeping staff. This motel should not even be on Expedia. It doesn't meet even the most basic measure.
