Reviewed By jainstongeWe were somewhat skeptical about the high ratings for Mieh’s Inn, but over the course of our time there the service provided by the owner Rebecca and her husband absolutely blew us away. They bend over backwards to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. For instance, she helped with our laundry after our long bike trip, and her husband Cash picked us up at the train station twice. They were very good about communicating. The rooms are clean and comfortable with amenities provided. The location is quite central. I hope to return and wouldn’t stay anywhere else is Hualien.

Reviewed By Peter KThis hotel exceeded our expectations. It is located on a quiet street just off the main street with many restaurants in walking distance. We had arranged transportation from the railway by the hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who gave us many good tips during our stay and made us feel welcomed. The room was the largest and cleanest we’ve experienced in Taiwan. It had very good soundproofing and many windows. The bathroom was modern and very spacious. The buffet breakfast was very well prepared with a lot of delicious choices served in a clean environment. The pride of ownership was apparent everywhere. We really enjoyed our stay and can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Comfortable stay
Reviewed By miisiamConvenient location, about 5 mins walk to the night market. Loved the breakfast with a good spread of vegetables and fruits. A pity that we did not get to stay on higher floors which may get a nicer sea view. Room is comfy and the water pressure is great. Bed is quite hard and pillows too soft though. Not a big issue especially if you are out to explore hualien in day time though. Probably tired enough to sleep through the night. Overall, it’s a comfy stay with a nice and relaxing lounge with free flow drinks and snacks.

Reviewed By eightysixxxThis cosy little homestay is one of the relatively newer accommodations in Hualien. It is situated on a quiet road right next to the Pacific Ocean that is quickly becoming populated with other homestays. Although called a homestay, it is actually a small corner building that is more akin to a guesthouse that you find in Southeast Asia. There are family and double rooms, with the east-facing double rooms being the real highlight of the place as they all have their own balconies that face the ocean. You can literally watch the sunrise from your bed through the balcony sliding glass doors. All the standard room amenities are taken care of and the room is simply and adequately furnished and clean. All the toiletries were provided in the form of two toiletry care packs that interestingly also contained disposable hand and bath towels. Although they're not the usual cloth towels you expect, they do their job well enough. House slippers are provided when you enter the homestay on the ground floor where you can leave your shoes in a cabinet. Hot and cool water is available in the living room with tea and coffee and cups available for use any time of the day. The Wi-Fi works well too. You're provided with the key to your room, and probably because we were the only guests there, we got the key to the main door as well so that we could lock up or get in any time we wished. Breakfast is provided in the form of a meal voucher that you use to buy food from a breakfast shop just a few minutes down the road. If you order over the value of the voucher, you just top up with cash. If you like your breakfasts in your hotel, this might be a bother but nothing really beats going to the local breakfast shop and ordering your first hot meal of the day together with the locals. White Sand Homestay is run by a young couple Jacob and Heidi. We didn't get to meet Heidi but Jacob exemplified Taiwanese hospitality in every possible way. He picked us up at Hualien Train Station in the morning and brought us to the homestay, introducing and recommending sights and eats to us along the way. And once we got to the homestay, he sat with us to show us even more sights and eats on a map, and let us know about the different tours available that he could book for us if we were keen. We were even provided with two really good and light bicycles for use free of charge. Knowing that we were checking out and intending to spend the whole of the next day at Taroko Gorge, Jacob really went beyond what we expected and not just allowed us to leave our heavy bags in the homestay when we checked out, he even brought our bags down to be deposited at the bus station so that we could collect them when we returned to the station after our day at Taroko Gorge! White Sand Homestay may not qualify as five-star holiday accommodation anytime soon, but Jacob's friendliness and hospitality is top class.

Cosy and Quaint Hotel
Reviewed By kimchngWarm reception, cosy hotel with the comforts of home. Free parking and just in front of the beach. We were given a room to watch sunrise and it was totally amazing! Home cooked breakfast by a sweet old lady. She was so willing to cook more if we didn't have enough. Everything was great except for the staircase. But there were 2 hunks that helped us with our luggages.

New, clean but can improve
Reviewed By Texan COur two nights stay, was comfortable. Our host were a bit particular, shoes has to be removed to be changed into their sandals, no bare foot once you step into the B&B. Breakfast are from a little shop 2 doors away (we advise you try just the sunny side eggs & Yam cake (Chinese style). We just hope that our host could change our towels & replenish the toiletries instead of just clearing the rubbish bins within the room. The lady boss is pleasant, helpful with the bookings of transport & our tour conducted by our Lady Taxi Driver to a Mirror Lake, Oyster farm & a museum of Wood Arts etc.. Must admit she is knowledgeable, with the location, food & generally the whole area (because she grows up from Hua Lien - she says).

Overall it’s an excellent tidy, modern, well laid-out B&B with room for improvement, especially for travellers who don’t confidently speak Mandarin or Taiwanese. Important note: there are actually two ManMans, both run by the same family. We emailed staff a week before to clarify which ManMan was which. After not getting a response, we gave the taxi driver the address that was on our email confirmation. Needless to say, it was the wrong address. On arrival, the lovely woman at the front desk helped us. Despite her not speaking any English, and us speaking almost nil Mandarin or Taiwanese, we were able to arrange a taxi – at no extra cost – using a combo of Google Translate and sign language. The ManMan we stayed at was at 花蓮縣花蓮市府前路308-3號 (No. 308, Fuqian Road, Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan 970). We’ve updated Google Maps with this new location so hopefully that’ll help future visitors. If you’re planning to visit Hualien’s surrounds and Taroko Gorge, be aware this is quite a distance from the train station. It’s around a 40-minute walk to the excellent Night Markets. If you’re English speaking, we recommend booking tours with Island Life Taiwan, who are reasonably-priced, super professional and can do pick-up/drop-off from ManMan itself. PROS: • Friendly family-run business • Incredibly comfortable bed and clean, decent bathroom • Cleaning and tidying service is faultless • Decent (40 min) walk between ManMan and night markets – good if you enjoy walking before and after dinner • Well-stocked 7-11 on the corner with ATM, snacks, coffee and everything else you’ll need • Laundry is available upon request • Good dumpling and bubble tea shops on the same road CONS: • Not the most convenient location • It isn't made clear which ManMan is which on the website • Limited assistance offered with transport, tour-planning or sightseeing • Greasy and overly-sweet breakfasts sourced from local takeaway shops (however 7-11 has healthy alternatives in a two-minute walk)

they can do better
Reviewed By Chinchillaswe checked in this b&b after my trip to taroko national park and luckily we were with our driver/guide. We couldn't find the host and had no idea on how to going inside. we are not local and have no way to contact the host. We were just standing outside the mension and luckily our guide called the host and she came. They could do better in communicating with the guests before they came cos i thought they might have the receptionist or some staff inside but unexpectedly it had none. This b&b is near the city center but still we need to take a cab to every places. wifi didn't work.

Great B&B with nice room and views

It is located in a calm neighborhood where you can enjoy the views on the mountains and rice fields. We stayed in the Bali room which was great and had all items you require for a comfortable stay. The breakfast was great, the family cooked us something different every day which was very friendly and comfortable. Would recommend if you want a more relaxing stay a bit further from the city centre! Parking is available.
