Beautiful fresh seafood and interesting menu. Only complaint was that the map shows it on the wrong side of Asukara dori. Look for the big sign on the footpath and slide the door open. There's nothing in English outside but they have an English menu. Ask about the specials... they're only in Japanese!

Fish hotpot warmed up the chilly November night in Hakodate at this restaurant. The dark slipper fish sashimi is out of the world and really fresh and sweet that I will recommend you try it out! My friend also had the fresh oyster which was fat and juicy. Had the abalone which we opted for the sashimi style but i believe it may be better to have it cooked for more taste and a smoother bite. It was good dinner all in all!

Came here by accident as it was raining really hard and didn't want to go too far from our hotel. We ordered a few types of their ramen and they are all very good. I think the pork soup is better than the chicken broth though. The noodle was cooked to perfection and the egg....the egg was one of the best egg I've had. We had to order extra egg each.Definitely recommend this place anyone visiting Hakodate.

My wife is Japanese and she'd heard of this place on Japanese web sites. It's a tiny, non-descript fish restaurant in the main fish market next to lots of other similar ones. No reason to choose it if you didn't know! But - I can highly recommend it. Whatever you order comes with about 10 tiny dishes of bits and pieces - fish stew, pickles, miso pastes, etc.... all of which went down well with the sashimi (raw fish) on rice meals that we ordered. The chef/shop owner gave us some extra fish eggs for our 3 year old who wolfed them all down! Friendly atmosphere, no rushing and we took our time. Very nice!

Found this place by chance looking for an authentic kaiten style sushi. Located by the sea side with a great view. Parking is available. Crowded during peak times so expect 30 to 50 minutes wait. There are table & sushi bar seating. Prices are reasonable for fresh & high quality sushi. Service is friendly & quick. Some language gaps but manageable. We sat facing the itamae (sushi chefs). Just point to the menu when ordering & they make it fresh. Or take from the conveyor belt which has the popular items. The seafood were really fresh & oh so good. Look out for the platter items on the menu. You get better choices like trio of fish egg or trio of tuna cuts. Able to try more. Prices are denoted by the plate's color ranging from 150 to 550Â¥ if not mistaken. Green tea is complimentary. Once you are done the wait staff will calculate the total & just head to the cashier to settle your bill.Highly recommended. It was a great dinner. Happy we found this place. Will surely return if we visit Hakodate again.

Kaikobo is a great seafood restaurant is located in the Asaichi - morning-market area. We had a cod tempura dish, hairy crab, oysters, salad, salmon and salmon egg omisubi (rice ball). They also served a tasty appetizer of smoked scallops and egg roll on kelp (kazunoko). All of the dishes were absolutely delicious. We will definitely make a return trip to the restaurant the next time we’re in Hakodate.

We went to the restaurant yesterday, hoping to make a reservation for our group. The owner explained that as it was their peak season, many Japanese would be having their annual family gatherings and company dinner. They were fully booked till the end of the year. He further elaborated that the restaurant only has eight rooms and the seating capacity is limited. After that, the boss was nice enough to come out of the restaurant to direct us to a nearby traditional pastry shop, Sen Shu-an. For us, it was an opportunity missed!

The food is superb and very reasonably priced. Trust me when I say pricing is reasonable. Unlike some comments I read about how pricy it is etc, probably they are expecting $1 sushi, well I don’t think they have that in Japan. For the quality you are getting at this place, the pricing totally reasonably. 3 pax total about SGD$40. Freshness in the sushi brings out the sweetness as well for the sashimi. You can tell the waiter that you want sashimi and not sushi and the chef will do it for youEnglish menu available.Have fun !

I'm Japanese and I know Japanese portions are smaller than of US or elsewhere.Still... The portion is so small that after ordering a sea urchin bowl and two appetizers, we were still very hungry! bill for our lunch came out (3 people and one of them only order scallops/salmon don and no sea urchin) more than $100 to be hungry for lunch....I was really disappointed because I was really looking forward to try this place.Sea urchin quality was good but nothing different from other Hakodate places.I would probably not go back again even though I go to Hakodate often since it's my hometown and my family still live there...Go elsewhere and enjoy same sea urchin....or better buy a box of fresh sea urchin and eat it at home over rice!
