Great Pub

Reviewed By Mark M

Our first overnight stay at a pub, it was a Saturday night & a very busy pub it was. The staff were excellent especially Bridgette who looked after us from the moment we arrived until we went to bed. We weren’t expecting much as it was a budget stay, the room rate was super cheap & the bar & meal prices were very reasonable. Live music & chatty locals made our stay very enjoyable. Thankyou Bridgette for your excellent service during our stay.

A last minute reservation

Reviewed By Kalthor

Our plans for our holiday changed (due to Covid of course) so we had to try and find accomodation on short notice and managed to get one night here. Upon arrival we didn't see anyone in reception however our details and our cabin were written down on the board which made the check in easy. Travelling with two kids we really enjoyed the separate bedrooms (and the kids loved the bunk beds). Having a lounge also made it easier for us to stay and spend time together with games etc (specially considering the weather was rainy and cold). We were happy with the rooms and would gladly stay again!

Absolutely disgusted by blatant discrimination

Reviewed By trevorjmc

Rather than Book Online without asking - I rang to check that they would be Ok with having my Wife's Guide Dog in the Room with us The Man I spoke to refused - even after I explained that what he had just stated was an offence under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, education, publicly available premises, provision of goods and services, accommodation, clubs and associations, and other contexts) At that point he changed his mind - and stated we could Book - but would have to pay an additional fee for a ' deep clean ' after leaving ! When I asked how much extra that would be - he could not nominate the cost The Dog is immaculately clean - and no doubt would leave the Room in a better state than some of his previous Guests The same Dog has been allowed into Hospitals to Visit patients in the past - and trained healthcare Professionals did not see any issue Both sad and quite unbelievable that ignorant disability discrimination like this still exists in Australia in 2022

staff shortage

Reviewed By platypus150

Covid has meant a loss of staff and the bar and bistro are both closed. It also means that the rooms are not as well serviced as they should be. Our room was without soap and the carpet needed a vacuum (crumbs from someone's pizza). For a room with three beds we had two cups and one teaspoon, all dirty. To be fair, when we mentioned the soap they sent out for some and brought extra blankets and cleaning materials on request. I should mention the steep stairs as all rooms are on the first floor. Wifi is free and room facilities do work (TV, fan, heater, electric jug). The hot water in the ensuite bathroom comes quickly and is plentiful.

Waterfront Apartment

We have stayed at the Great Ocean Road Resort on many occasions. We love staying here as there is lots to do with the kids. It was lovely to see work has been put in around the complex. The 2 bedroom waterfront is a great space but would have been nice to see some upgrades to the room. Last time we stayed, it had a washing machine, but it has since been removed. With small children, it would have been helpful to have this facility available to us, particularly when staying more than 2 nights. Overall, we love staying here and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

A luxurious oasis overlooking the ocean. Treat Yourself

Reviewed By thaslett

Apollo Bay Guest House began life as a folly. Let me explain. A folly is an extravagant building in this case built to be a guest house. In English, the term folly began as "a popular name for any costly structure built to indulge a wealthy individual's hobby or passion in architecture In this case, a wealthy Victorian antique dealer who began importing bits of randomly acquired building components to Apollo Bay around 2008 and said to ta builder, “It’s a jigsaw puzzle, build me a grand mansion.” What you have is his Folly and what is now the Apollo Bay Guest House. It proved to be a costly business and apparently, the antique dealer’s pockets were not deep enough. All previous reviews remark how beautiful the house is. The antique dealer paid great attention to detail. Most reviewers spent one night here so they didn't sit around in the beautiful living rooms or swan around the fountain, which is what you’re paying $350 a night for. The breakfast room, where they would have spent most of their time, is beautiful. A comparison may help put the Apollo Guest Appartments in context. The Guesthouse ($350 a night) and the next most expensive place in Apollo Bay (we have stayed both now) are by far the most expensive accommodation in Apollo Bay by nearly $100 a night. They are very different in style, but my estimation is that they offer relatively equal value. The Apollo Bay Guest House has loads of French style, a porch with stunning views of the ocean where guests can gather for drinks to watch the sun go down and a continental breakfast while the other has a much larger kitchen, more beds, a bigger TV, more living space and a private outside deck. But no breakfast. Judging from the previous reviews the breakfasts have probably declined just a little over time. The breakfast room, where the continental breakfast is served is beautiful The muffins have disappeared as has the option of cooked breakfast. In fairness, it's not offered when you make a booking. But when you're staying five nights, the continental breakfast which includes some pretty ordinary toast can get a bit monotonous. And so to the touchstone of any review: the bathroom. This place works pretty well with limited resources. The bathroom is small by any standard, but surprisingly there are plenty of flat spaces around the handbasin under the mirror and in the drawers in the marble washstand under the mirror. There are also hooks on the door to hang things on. We didn't ask for a walk-in shower. He should have because they are available. The shower over the bath makes life pretty difficult for somebody with two knee replacements as the bath seems to have exceptionally high sides and has no rails can hold onto while you get in and it's pretty cramped when you get in. Other than that, the bathroom works pretty well, particularly in its size. The bed is a queen size, which is all would really fit in this particular bedroom. We stayed four nights. During that time, the towels were not changed and we ran out of toilet paper and tissues. No trouble to go to the supermarket but... There is a fan in the room which we did not need. I'm not certain how adequate it would be on a very hot summer night. When you're here you are coming to a courtyard with a fountain with concrete statues of little cupids playing the flute and rustic maids with baskets laden with fruit amid neatly cropped hedges. You will have breakfast amidst stained glass windows next to a french grandfather clock that reminds you that here, time stands still, at ten past eleven every morning. We had the studio suite which is up a set of stairs that may not appeal to everyone so it may be worth checking your options before you book. It's something very different from the run-of-the-mill accommodation, so if you can afford it, it is well worth the stay.

Great atmosphere pub

Great modern looking pub. Went here with the family for dinner. Atmosphere was great. Staff where very friendly and accommodating. The meals were on the high price side but very generous. We couldn’t finish the meals off. But you can do a doggy bag. The restaurant was busy and only had to wait 20 to 25 mins for the mains. The meals were cooked perfectly and tasted fresh and delicious We ordered the chicken Parma, pork tacos ( she said very spicy) , roast pork belly and the parrilla tasting plate.
