Le Rive Gauche Restaurant

My wife and I selected the Angus beef, not being seduced by other meals in the menu. Since we were driving, we selected half a bottle of red Côtes de Beaune which was ok.Service is top level as expected for this kind of restaurant. Quality of food is in the good average without being amazing and Angus (three grilled parts displayed on decorative mashed potatoes with small salsify cylinders) does not appear to be better than our French Charolais. Dessert was a pretty good "sorbet au vieux marc de Bourgogne".Perhaps this restaurant is worth visiting again to give a better appreciation?

Au Crieur de Vin

This restaurant is owned and managed by Patrick Gauthier the Michelin starred Chef who owns the attached Madeleine restaurant. Le crieur de vin is still a very high calibre restaurant with excellent French food and service. More affordable and less formal than La Madeleine but there is no compromise on quality.

La Cote Saint Jacques

Our enchanting hotel in Burgundy awaits you in Joigny, just 90 minutes from Paris. In a setting that is both decidedly modern and indelibly marked by refinement, the Cote Saint Jacques, our luxury, 5-star hotel, opens the doors of its Relais & Chateaux es

We had a large, comfortable for 2, spaciously isolated. Service was impeccable. The menu had one entry, 2 dishes , cheese and dessert. All perfectly cooked and presented. I highly recommend the mouth watering gellee d'oyster appetizer, the caviar ile flottante, the foie gras poele, the rose desert. also excellent cheese plateau with the superb regalis (perhaps better than roquefort). Wine service was expert and quite responsive (changed a wine we did not like much, even though there was nothing wrong with wine). We were treated to a visit to the kitchen with chef Jean-Michel Lorain. Excellent service with Fabien.A memorable evening in an establishment clearly aiming to please its clients.Dear Bernard L,Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your fantastic review, we are pleased that you enjoyed your meal with Fabien and us.We hope that we might have the pleasure of your return though, so that we are able to ensure you have such a memorable and enjoyable experience. All the bestJean-Michel Lorain & his team

La Madeleine Patrick Gauthier

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Service is spotless, food is imaginative and high quality, the Chef is lovely and accommodating of the patrons' wishes. The cheese selection is very very good and all recommended cheeses were spot on. Wine and Champagne selection is also nice. The chocolate dessert I had was, without any debate, the best dessert I have ever eaten in my life. Recommended for a lovely dinner out.

Auberge de l'Helix

We took our French Friend Yvette to L'Helix on November 30th. The restaurant, a Logis de France , is so typical or the region that it may well be a film set. the 18.50 euro menu is absolutely fine . You get lovely home made pate du maison followed by excellent choice of entrees and mains, cheese and then pudding. All is good , copious and served with a speed almost unheard of in a French Restaurant. Try the poached eggs in red wine sauce for something unusual and delicious. All the mains apart from the salmon are delicious stews and fricassees served in little casseroles. Wines are very expensive though apart from the pichets which were ,in fact very good. Enjoy the food but mind the steps- Our friend , who is 73 took a real tumble on the way out because the door was so difficult to open she lost her balance.Luckily no serious harm done but that door needs sorting out!

La Lucarne aux Chouettes

Reviewed By David R

Without doubt this is the best restaurant in town. Sadly there's little choice and while Villeneuve sur Yonne has certainly seen much better days La Lucarne aux Chouettes is a highlight.Service is polite, friendly and helpful and compliments a pleasant menu with a range of dishes to suit most tastes and budgets including the "menu du jour " of two courses for 16.50. An amuse bouche came with our aperatifs. Mackeral bruchetta to start and followed up with the duck leg with honey for mains which was not as sweet as you might think and perfectly delicious. There's an extensive cheese trolly for a modest additional charge but has a formidable selection. The wine list is reasonable in choices and price. A perfect way for a lazy lunch. The restaurant was busy and near full for a Tuesday which was a good sign. The rustic beams, open fireplace with blazing log fire and a huge wood burning ceramic tiled heater ensured the place was lovely and warm as well as full of character. Highly recommended.
