The pizza has become to the French what chicken tikka masala has become to the British - it's their favourite dish, and in most towns the pizzerias now outnumber the boulangeries. In Revel, they nearly outnumber the hairdressers as well - but not just yet. So to say that Mongelli serves the best pizza in town is no small compliment. In fact it serves the best pizza I have eaten in France (and because I live here permanently, I am obliged to eat pizza frequently because it is, after all, the de factor national dish).But seriously, Mongelli has mastered a simple formula: a big choice of perfectly-cooked pizzas, a select few desserts, a minimalist list of excellent-value-for-money wines, exceptionally friendly staff, and a stylishly-simple decor. Oh, and it's located in one of the most beautiful market squares in France.Another thing is striking: its clientele is drawn from across the ages: couples from any decade, families, friends, work colleagues. This is a warm, welcoming country restaurant, right on the lake at Revel. Prompt and courteous service, better than I expected. Very good wine selection, excellent food, creative and fresh desserts. Three of us had two bottles of Corbière and the 20⬠menus for about 96â¬, very reasonable. My menu began with Salade au chêvre chaude (a favorite), then the confit du canard, and finished with pêche melba and café. The decor is a bit bright and unromantic, but the rest that I have mentioned makes up for it.

Belle surprise que cette pizzeria ! La qualité est au rendez-vous (bravo pour la pâte fine de la pizza), le diamètre de la pizza est impressionnant, et l'accueil bienveillant. Voilà un excellent resto sans prétention que je vous recommande si la faim tiraille votre estomac.

We came upon this restaurant on a quick visit to Carcassonne. We really wanted to try cassoulet while in Carcassonne and we weren't disappointed. It was delicious!We had a set menu that started with a really nice goat cheese salad, followed by a generous portion of cassoulet, and although we were stuffed, the meal came with dessert. Creme brulee and chocolate cake.Service was good and the servers spoke English.The restaurant was very crowded and people kept coming.
