This gem of a restaurant is an absolute find in Capbreton. From the outside it looks small but on the inside it is jsut fabulous, the fish is outstanding, there is no othe words. The service was with smiles and they helped us understand the menu completely.Drinks and cocktail - house Ameracano - am addicted since. Champagne cocktail was had by another of the party and fine wines. Crisp and beautiful Chalbis served with St Jacques and Sole. An evening to talk long about and treasure. Will return for sure.

Really nice selection of entrees as Tapas.Lovely calamari, tasty Seared duck hearts, poulet wings Mains were ok. The restaurant seems to have had an award for burgers and they were nice but certainly unspectacular. Slightly small portions Children's menu was very simple (u can order from the Normal menu ) and has portions suitable for up to maybe 7 yr olds Pricey but that's France!

Don't be deterred by the outside bland aspect of the restaurant. The restaurant is small and the design understated. But the food... The food is simply fantastic, refined, subtle, tasty, nicely presented... Like in a Michelin starred restaurant. Among other delicious choices, the half cooked tuna with asparagus, freshly fried foie gras and sweet potatoes puree was just memorable. Desserts are amazing too.Prices are painless though. If you are in Capbreton you just can't afford to miss this great experience, admittedly one of the very best in town.

La Cuisine

The little seaside town of Capbreton is nestled alongside Hossegor, one of the premier surf beaches in Europe. Normally I visit in summer where thousands of French and holiday makers descend in a frenzy of sun-seeking and surfing. It's a different sight in winter where most shops and restaurants are closed for the season and tourists are few. It can be slim culinary pickings! So it was a delight to find La Cuisine open and ready to serve a fantastic, simple, yet sophisticated meal.I enjoyed a beautifully textured escalope of foie gras, with a velvet veloute of pumpking (and a velouté is far more push than a purée!). Followed by a simply superb veal blanquette with potatoes cooked in duck fat. Beautiful. Being half French, but growing up in Tasmania (that's a long, long story, don't ask) this brought back vivid memories of my mother's veal blanquette. Le yum, indeed. We were too full to have desserts but hope to try again before leaving town. But what impressed me most was that because it was low season and just days before Christmas, there was only the four of us in the restaurant. It would have been very easy for the chef Johann to have rushed through preparation and cooking to get us out the door to shut up shop, but no - each dish was clearly prepared with passion, attention to detail, cultured presentation and care. His respect for his food was evident and it was an honour to call him from the kitchen to say a personal thank you.His partner Isabelle looked after us with the same level of care, patiently waiting as we translated some menu elements, and also recommending a perfect, well-priced wine: a 'vin oublié', which is a 'forgotten wine'. She explained that the winemakers had forgotten about these particular barrels of wine, then found them and thought they would test, thinking it would only be good enough to throw away - turns out it was a damn fine drop. Now who can't love a wine with a good backstory!?I am no food expert (neither gourmet or gourmand) but I hope I know what a quaility dining experience feels like ans tastes like. It was a wonderful, memorable meal on a cold south-west France winter's night and I would encourage anyone to try them out for lunch or dinner, summer or winter - you will not be disappointed!

We stopped here for a quick snack whilst exploring Capbreton for the first time. The pancake (crepe) was filling. The coffees were not to our taste, but we will go back and try a different drink and try some different food as it was a charming place and the owner/waitress was very pleasant.

Situated inside a camp site with easy access it was welcoming with good service. The menu was somewhat restricted but both the food and the prices were very good. You could easily get a three course meal with wine for two for 50 euros. The only reason I would not go again is because of the flies which spoilt the evening. They need to invest in a way to solve this problem

Unprepossessing from the outside, we had previously shied away from this little restaurant. But on the recommendation of our host, we ate there - and what a surprise! The first pleasant surprise was the friendliness of the staff, Next, the wine - a short but excellent wine list. But then, oh, the food! Later, as the place filled and they started turning people away we realised that the locals flock here, which is always a good sign. Idiosynchratically, the chef bustles in and out with his creations wearing an unusual hat, and I later learned that this hat is his signature. But if in the area, do yourself a favour and call in. You won't be disappointed, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the bill.

We have frequented this restaurant many times over many summers and the change of name and ownership was a surprise this year, however a very pleasant change. The service is exceptional and the food matches this in freshness, taste and quantity. Superb! Sure to be a firm family favourite for many more years to come! Love the Shoreys xxxx

I liked the look of this restaurant as we drove from the airport to our holiday village on the first day, I thought it looked rustic and had a charm that seemed to draw me towards it. This is the best restaurant the family and I ate in rustic and local a real treat. As the only English speaking people in this restaurant I felt we were going to be in for a treat and I wasn't disappointed, if it full of locals it's got to be good, well it's a policy I work with and it seems to work well. You may need a little bit of the French language to get by, but don't forsake a visit just for that reason alone. The lady serving is a charming French woman in her 50s/60s smiling and talking all the time, trying to help as best she can and using her broken English with my broken French was a great laugh to all in the restaurant. The food is homely and rustic, from meat plate salads, fish and my favourite (even if I was a little to far north) the cassoulet de Toulouse was stunning and huge. The daily specials and other main dishes looked equally as good. The desserts are all home made by the woman and are out of this world, the lemon pie ( lemon meringue pie) was simply to die for. The apple pie was top draw also. With a local wine list and some from farther a field you are spoilt for choice.Don't miss this please this is as French as it comes and is a real charmer as is the lovely woman.Tres Bon tres Bon
