We celebrated my wife's birthday at this restaurant last evening. I was surprised by the plaster off the wall in one of the dining rooms (intentional?). as well as the two light fixtures with burned out and/or missing bulbs. The rooms are so noisy it is very difficult to hear the people at your table. there are no carpets, or sound absorbing fixtures in any of the dining rooms. The server was quite good. She knew the menu - but oversold its 'greatness.' She claimed to have never tasted such food until she got her job...The menu is ala carte. I had the crab soup, which tasted fine - but was presented room temperature. My wife had a salad and enjoyed the salad dressing. I had the duck - which was a breast over rice with some dark brown sauce over the entire thing. The duck breast was tender with little to no taste. I suspect it was baked - with no marinade or other preparation to give it flavor. The sauce had no identifiable flavor. There was squash and artichoke hearts on my plate as well (apparently came with the duck). My wife ordered prime rib - medium. She was told the 'chef' would not serve the prime rib 'medium.' My wife was then offered an 'end piece' of the prime rib which might be more well cooked. It wasn't. My wife and I have been fortunate to have been able to eat at many fine restaurants around the world. The is the first 'chef' who refused to prepare prime rib as requested by the patron of the restaurant. My wife's plate appeared with her slab of meat and a cup of au jus. No vegetables. Just meat. Finally, when we made the reservation the scheduler asked if we were celebrating an occasion. I informed him of my wife's birthday. He said he 'would take care of it.' Not sure what he took care of -

I tried this highly rated local establishment finally. It is a Boars Head Deli, with a wide variety of sandwiches and salads to choose from. Service was friendly , and to the point attentive. I ordered two sandwiches and both were hearty but not overdone. Must confess I was a bit surprised not to find a pickle spear wrapped with either sandwich and it was sorely missed. It's the little touches that turn a good establishment into a great one. Overall the sandwiches were fine but not memorable enough frankly to give me a craving for one in the future. If you need a Deli with more of a North East Flair than Publix this is your place in Inverness.

Gulf to Lake Highway, as the name implies, gives a true sense of Florida. Water, water everywhere. Boats and bridges. Cypress trees and Cypress knees(who knew trees had knees?!)Imagine you are wilderness explorers. The Sunshine State is living up to it's motto. It's hot, a lot. You're in a battle against heat and humidity. Your throat is parched, you need beer. And wings. And....You COULD stay in the main channel(Highway 44), hoping to find a fair Road House, but there are many tributaries and creeks branching off. You might be just one swamp away from Big Foot or a Big Ass Burger.Set a course for Cove Camp, keep going and pretty soon you end up at the point of picturesque and park it. (No dueling banjo music here!)If you see air boats and a dock, turn around and look, that building? That's The Cove Pub and Grub!Accompanied by my favorite Fab One, we took a seat at the adult high chairs(the bar)! Immediately we see Ali, coming out of the galley, with a mile of smile. She made our first time feel like old time in no time! What fun!Actually, everyone around us was friendlier than distant relatives on pay day! I made a crack about sliders and that flushed out the rest of the room! (only a few are privy to that joke!)We ordered the Medium Dry Rub Wings to share. She likes flats and I like drums, so we were both in perfect harmony. I got the Yuengling Beer Battered Fish & Chips. Two pieces of crunchy good Cod made me happily nod. And the chips were really good!Fab One got the Chicken Quesadillas. She commented she liked they had corn along with the usual refried beans and other South of the Border stuff. By the time we were done quaffing cold ones, our plates were clean and my hand was worn out from all of the hand-shaking! It's all good! We were totally impressed with finding a Cove full of the friendliest people ever...WHEN you go, which you know you want to... Enjoy some great food, have a cold one and oh yeah, you can take a scenic or sonic air boat ride! Or just rent a boat. You can even rent The Cove Point House, at the tip of Lake Henderson nestled amongst the Cypress trees!Take in some real Florida and tell them John & Beth sent ya!

We were told that this restaurant was the best for seafood in our area and that it was a Traditional "Old Florida" Roadside Restaurant. We can confirm that it is a "Traditional Old Florida Roadside Restaurant" - however, not the best seafood in our area. Two of our party of four had the crab cake dinner and thought the cakes were "over-breaded" and somewhat tasteless. I had the blackened Grouper which was satisfactory and another in our group had the shrimp and scallops dinner and said it was very good. The dinners were served with a choice of potato, three tiny hush puppies, and about 1/3 cup of cole slaw. Our total bill was over $130.00. The servers were very good and generally took care of us. On a bazaar note, our server brought our checks before we had finished dinner and told us that if we wanted to add a gratuity, their card process center could not handle it (yeah right) and that the tip would have to be cash. So, even if you use a card to pay for the meal, you will have to offer cash for any tip. All said, it was a 20 - 25 minute drive to get there and not worth another visit.

I can officially breathe a sigh of seafood relief; I have found a beacon of light! A clean, comfy atmosphere, great, friendly and helpful service, wine and beer service and wonderful food. My friend and I stopped in for a presumably light lunch but ended up ordering more because everything sounded so good. Starting with a vat of sweet tea and one of lemonade to remedy the sweltering afternoon heat, we ordered blackened scallops, fried clams and broiled scallops with sides of baby limas, fried okra, french fries and hush puppies. Oh my goodness- the meals arrived in short order, each bite better than the last. The baby limas were heaven in a dish, savory with pork seasoning yet light. Crunchy sweet corn hushpuppies, seasoned fries and perfect okra. My additional highlight was the bottles of tartar and cocktail sauces on the table. I am a huge user of each and it's both annoying and embarrassing to bother the waitress for the amounts I like to use if they are in the usual small plastic containers or packs. We were informed of the many all-you-can-eat specials for the various days of the week and plan on our return feast. What a pleasant place!

Great place for a fast breakfast before walking around town. The omelettes were perfect and the potatoes to die for. However, they do skimp on the cheese. Coffee was weak, but had a good flavor. But we ordered, had our food, and were out of there in 30 minutes. We will definitely be back soon.

We were seated quickly, service was average for a lazy afternoon. Ambience is nautical themed. Blackened Grouper Reuben was decent - do not expect sauerkraut in this sandwich, they put coleslaw in it instead. Do not bother with the conch fritters - there are great fritters out there - Stumpknocker conch fritters are average. The coconut chicken tenders salad was very good! All in all, Stumpknockers is average at best, there are a lot of other places in the area to try!

We stopped by to relax unwind while visiting the area. Our Motel recommended and it was in the older section of Inverness. Very nice well kept up area. We only went for a few dark beers. Huge selection of beer. Other tables near us doing the same but had food too and most of the items coming out of the kitchen smelled and looked good. Service was spot on and bartender made us feel welcome and like we were regulars! We sat at the bar and it was quiet and good experience. The only thing we wished was the beers were a bit cheaper. $6+ for each. If we were in the area we would stop by again as they were great!
