Astounding natural wonders, invigorating outdoor recreation and fascinating cultural attractions make Flagstaff the perfect getaway to rejuvenate the body and replenish the mind. Set at the base of the beautiful San Francisco Peaks, and surrounded by lush national forests, the city provides ample opportunity for fresh air fun. Spring, summer and fall bring hikers, campers and mountain bikers, while winter draws skiers and ice skaters. But don't let a focus on the "good old outdoors" fool you. Fostered by the local university, Flagstaff is also chock-full of educational and cultural attractions. Be sure to see the award-winning permanent exhibit "Native Peoples of the Colorado Plateau" at the Museum of Northern Arizona. The Pioneer Museum offers a glimpse of what life was like for the early settlers of the region and includes a 1929 Baldwin locomotive in its collection. The city also has an arboretum and a planetarium. The entire area is a living anthropology and geology lesson, with ancient Native American ruins and stunning scenery at the Wupatki and Walnut Canyon National Monuments, just waiting to be explored.

And maybe that's ok. I was looking for a less expensive option, which I got (relatively speaking) and was prepared for traffic and train noise (got that, too). Room was small but adequate. Hotel provides soap but no shampoo. Breakfast has limited choices - bread/bagels, two cold cereal choices, oatmeal, yogurt, oranges. I stayed two nights and room was not cleaned; they were apologetic. There is only one ice machine - and it was out of order at least one day. On the plus side, convenient location for where I was going, good Mexican food next door, very nice front desk clerk.

Mediocre Experience

Reviewed By Darlene S

This hotel shares a check in desk with Howard Johnson’s and don’t try to check in before 3:00pm. Our room was clean but the pillows might have been stuffed with toilet paper rolls they were so lumpy. There is a lot of debris floating in the pool that is also shared with HJ so you have to cross a parking lot to use it. There is supposed to be a complimentary breakfast but when we asked about it we were told it was take out and we were grudgingly handed a bag with a fruit cup, granola bar, danish, and a soggy bean burrito. They could definitely do better.

We've stayed at various comfort inns, but this hotel had only a few prepackaged items in plastic and a bag of prepackaged items in a grab bag. The parking lot was full but I know there is not enough breakfast to go around and a dozen mandarin oranges won't last. The rooms were clean however. The hot tub is small, room for two, did not use.

Route 66 value with service

If you need a budget friendly room with helpful staff and don't need frills look no further. This clean, historic hotel gave us a (smallish) room with a delicious restaurant attached at a price 1/3 of what others were running. The desk clerk helped us find the right place to park our trailer hauling our motorcycle and even kept an eye on it and reserved our car parking spot next to it while we were exploring one day. If you are looking for a specific amenity be sure to ask before booking.

It's one of those motels on a main street that looks like it's used by truckers. Driving from Page AZ we just needed an inexpensive place to sleep close enough to The Grand Canyon to make it for sunrise without having to wake up at 2am. Our room was actually pretty decent. Room was very large and very clean. Bed was comfortable. Love the sink outside the bathroom. Makes it easy for 2 people to get ready. We checked in pretty late. After 10pm. Front desk was person was pleasant. BUT......the trains passing! Sounds like they pass just outside the door. Constantly. All night long. It was very tough sleeping with the noise. I even darkened the tv screen so I could leave it on a channel all night so as to try to distract from the constant trains passing. The tv on all night along with the heater fan going didn't help much with the train noise. If you are a light sleeper, stay elsewhere. If you dont mind freight trains passing all night, if you sleep soundly, and want an inexpensive clean place to lay your head. Go for it.
