Liseth Pensjonat og Hyttetun

Amazing place that gives you the best of Western Norway

Reviewed By franckor2015

I always wanted to try the famous Norwegian "hytte", or cabins. I'd been in Eidfjor several times before, and I just loved this place. It had everything you could dream of; the magnificence of the landscape and the powerful colors of the fjords. So we tried this place. And let me tell you that it is just perfect. If you rent the larger cabins (four to six persons), you will enjoy a high level of comfort. Nice living room, large bathroom, and cleanness. At the same time, you are surrounded by the wildness of this very particular nature, being at the crossroad between the arctic landscape and the fjords. Short way to Eidfjor center and walking distance to the fabulous Vøringsfossen. If you like nature and comfort, this is the place to be. The restaurant nearby the cabins, that belongs to the same owner, has a limited menu, but the food is as excellent as local. Parking place just outside your cabin. You can eventually cook your own food, as the kitchen is well equipped.

We we’re driving from Bergen to Oslo and passed through Eidfjord at approx. 1800; and decided for the hotell on the hill in the centre of town for our choice of restaurant. We we’re lucky to get a table. You should order in advance. And after explaining our itinerary The waitress suggested a first course to give the kitchen time to prepare the main course. Marvelous first course of Norwegian specialties with a crisp local apple cider. Tjen followed a beautifully steamed salmon, two sirloin steaks fried just as asked (one medium and on3 rare), and a good burger with real minced beef and a fine pickled red onion added a twang to it. Apple cake was really something with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream, and the pannacotta in a jar was up to The standard. Quick service at The table, any waitress or waiter would be over if we stirred. Coffee hot from the pot. This place knops what service and hospitality is, and performs betone and above The call of duty.

Lovely old place!

We stopped here while on a roadtrip, & had very good food. Not many choices on the menu, I think three, but we chose Kjøttkake, & it was very tasty, & a big portion. The place is old, & filled with history. You can also spend the night there, the rooms & cabins looked cozy.

OTTIMO

Per 44 euro abbiamo trascorso una notte in una graziosa hytta, molto luminosa, calda e pulita... altrettanto erano i bagni in comune (ma noi non abbiamo mai incrociato nessuno). Personale molto gentile. Colazione strepitosa.

Rotten food at buffet Restaurant Onen.

Reviewed By ErikVikingNor

Stopped by the hotel to have dinner on the way from Oslo to Bergen. Eidsfjord came up as a good stop time vice. Onen only served buffet, so no big choices. We where 7 guests, and food was ok until desert. Two of us tried the Pannacotta , it tasted like too old blue cheese, it was rotten.. unfortunately this made two of us have unexpected visit at the washroom. So totally basted dinner, the others kept away from the deserts and kept healthy,. Waitress came with some lame excuses they had tasted a lot of these and could not find any issues, and asked if we knew how it should taste…. Added pannacotta is one of our favorites so for sure we know the taste and should not make us sick., got a lame excuse cause but understood they did not mean it. No more comments we payed and left, stomach sick the rest of the drive to bergen:…

Fossli Hotel

Fossli Hotel is situated at the innermost end of the Hardanger Fjord. The hotel affords a magnificent view over the Mabo Valley and the 182m Voringsfoss Waterfall. The hotel is tastefully and comfortably designed by the famous Norwegian architect Konow Lund. It was build in 1891, which was 25 years before the road was build, and all the materials were carried on horseback to the top. Edvard Grieg used to be a regular guest at Fossli Hotel and wrote his Opus 66 here. Fossil Hotel today offers 60 rooms, a nice restaurant, a café, and a fully licensed bar.

Very disappointing

Reviewed By Maurice M

This family owned historic hotel is situated above a wonderous waterfall in the Norwegian mountains; it is the only hotel in the area. The hotel is rustic, and that is quite fine, in tune with the surroundings. Room 51 is a great disappointment. There is NO shelf space to unpack onto, a very small closet has completely inadequate space, and there is no radio or TV. The internet connection was weak and unstable. The staff tried to convince us that we were the problem, now their WIFI service. The bathroom is almost inserviceable. The shower curtain surrounds the shower and the toilet, and there are NO towel bars or hooks. The room costs 1800 NOK a night, far too much for this level of quality. We have stayed at other mountain hotels in Norway and this one is below par.
