Fantastic Stay - Well maintained, Friendly Staff!

Reviewed By kaadaq

Stayed with my family on a Rewards night while in town for a show at MSU. Property is well maintained, and we were greeted warmly at check-in. Our room on the 4th floor was spacious. Room was super clean and had everything I expect, as well as things that other hotels seem to struggle with, like climate controls that maintain the temp you set, good water pressure, and FOUR TOWELS for a 4-person reservation (so many only give you 3 and make you seek out the 4th). Breakfast choices were ample. We didn't use the pool, but it looked large and inviting and left us wishing we had brought our suits! Staff was very friendly -- breakfast attendant greeted us, then jumped in to help when I spilled my coffee, and I had a very pleasant conversation with the check-out clerk while I waited for my family. Overall we had excellent service. Even among Hampton Inns (which are generally very good), this stood out as a wonderful stay, and I don't think I'll even bother even considering other properties the next time we visit Lansing -- I'll come here!

Very Enjoyable - Nice Rooms - Excellent Staff

Reviewed By Bottlecap-Rock

The staff was helpful many times – front desk, housekeeping, engineering, each going above and beyond to ensure an enjoyable, hassle-free guest experience. The rooms are pricey, but are nice and spacious. The floors are well-designed, with easy access to elevators and stairs and a separate area for the ice-maker, away from guest rooms. The location is in the mix – MSU is a block away and a variety of restaurants, stores (practical, school-related, novelties, etc.) are within a 10 minute radius. Great hotel.

No frills but no complaints

Overall a completely fine at the Candlewood Suites! The room was very clean (with the exception of the curtains, those definitely need replacement). Amenities in the room were great for the price (full fridge, microwave, stovetop, dishwear, etc.). The snack cupboard at the front of the hotel had great prices! Bed was very comfy. Considering this hotel was 30-50$ cheaper AT LEAST than nearby competition and only a 6 minute drive from the main MSU campus, I can't see a reason not to stay here again. As long as you're not looking for the newest and best as far as technology and amenities go.

Another Visit, Another Fantastic Stay

We first visited the hotel in 2017 for a week. This trip we stayed 26 days and it was a super time. First, all the staff deserves gold medals for their friendliness, helpfulness and all-around good cheer. They really make sure every guest is given their full attention. The room was clean and all the appliances and bathrooms worked well. The hotel public areas are well maintained. The laundry room worked out great for us. Nicely equipped fitness room. I whole-heartedly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the East Lansing area.

Disappointing experience

Reviewed By Amanda G

Hotel does not request guests car license plates . They do have cameras so they can match guest with their car if they took the time ; however the time I was there that night and remained in my room they did not contact me to request I move my car . I had gotten distracted ( age 74) and left my car along the hotel building . A staff person had the rental car towed . Had it not been for guests staying there I would have been stranded . Within three hours after it was towed I picked up the car at 10pm after paying $320 . And a court fine . Though I have enjoyed staying at Marriott’s for years as a senior citizen I will no longer be staying at their hotels anymore . I found the staff cold and uncaring . Driving at night is difficult and driving in a area totally unfamiliar was frightening to return to the hotel . I just wanted to share my experience so other seniors know that their car may be towed since the hotel no longer asks for their license plates . My rental had a Massachusetts plate and my license was RI ( their excuse for not notifying me ) !

Property does not go over details upon check-in they just tell you to sign the credit card charge form. Beware, do not want this to happen to you! Charged $250 pet fee. Do not own dog. Did not bring dog to hotel. Did not occur to me to ask about pets since I don't have one. Maintenance guy racist “you people” “people like you trying to get away with everything”. Dad was given 72-hours to live, just hours after checking in, I was inconsolable. Friend came over with his dog to try to help me. Dad passed 48-hours later. Rooms are not clean. Sent the hotel a picture of towel after wiping the floor in front of the sink. No response from property. Attempted by e-mail, phone, and 5-property visits.
