Well run, large rooms, good value

All the usual amenities, pleasant check in, just off I-5. Do recommend exploring the town (short walk to center) — and if you have the inclination for a high end dinner, Cafe Maddalena — Thurs, Fri, or Sat nites, reservation probably necessary.

Railroad Park Resort

Sleep in a Caboose....Eat on the Train. More than a place to lay your head; it's a step back into railroad history while enjoying modern comforts. Breathe in the pine-fresh air and relax beneath the beauty of Castle Crags. An adventure awaits you. Chose an authentic caboose, rustic cabin or the RV park and campground. Pets are welcome and a walk around Murphy's Pond is just the ticket for travel weary legs. Dine in the historic Wells Fargo or Pullman Car. Sip your favorite cocktail surrounded by railroad memorabilia. Ah!

An exit off of I-5 that should not be missed!!!! (Exit 728 ?)

From the play area for kids (with a miniature train going through a mini Castle Crag mountain) to a top notch dinner in an antique dining car, everything was more than we imagined. The cabooses are all decked out in fresh paint and the interiors are clean and inviting. There are plenty of hikes to go on close by and the Shasta caverns to explore - will come again for sure!!!

Not worth the price - look elsewhere

Reviewed By Meerna4

Owners need to put about $1mil or more into this dump, and it’ll never happen, so travelers are left with a worn down motor lodge that isn’t worth the price. Walls are paper thin, and I could hear one guy in the room on one side yelling at his wife on speaker phone around 9pm for about 40 minutes, and the other room next door I could hear a guy snoring all night. Bring your earplugs! The king bed was a floppy, sinking mess of a mattress well past its prime. I barely got any sleep, and back was sore. The heater was probably the cheapest wall unit ever made, the knob nearly broken off, and you were either too hot or freezing in the room. The front door was also very cheap/thin, and wood smoke from outside at night filtered in. Taking a shower made the room musty for 2 days. The windows are single pane, need replacing, as well as all the bedding, curtains, rug, sink, and just about everything in the tiny room (#3). If it wasn’t for the location away from the loud, sad, aviary (why do they have a bunch of birds in a huge cage? It’s just sad :( it would’ve been better than tent camping, I guess, but the loud barking dogs from the house behind the motel pretty much ruined any peace and quiet. 2 stars for the nice 15 year old who checked me in, and for being walking distance to Hedge Creek Falls. I’m not blaming management for this property, I’m blaming the owners (assuming they aren’t the same people). They’re the ones who will let this property fall into disrepair for as long as it won’t be condemned by the health department or code enforcement. Also, the business website is not secure, and strangely, the Google map on the site is all in Russian. Cedar Lodge Motel owners, get your s*it together, and use all that $$ you’ve been charging over the years to do some actual renovations.

Overnight stopover off of I-5

Very nice small hotel, with a terrific attention to details, such as a collection of nice art on the walls. Room #2 is spacious, rather like a small apartment, with a view of the old town theater across the street. Town of Dunsmuir is a great respite from the long freeway drive. We will be back.
