Cuenca Hotels | Places to Stay in Cuenca

One of Spain’s most gravity-defying hill towns, Cuenca clings to steep limestone cliffs that tower above twin ravines. The UNESCO-listed town center retains its medieval Moorish character, though a peek inside many “hanging houses” reveals the town’s modern-day fixation on abstract art.

Beautiful, quaint, peaceful and oh, the breaky....

Reviewed By Mary H

So we came to this hotel from Valencia and it was such a reprieve of peace and quiet and lots of room to park your car!!! Cova (daughter of the owner) ran out to the main street to help guide us in (it's easy to find-they are just that helpful)....Cova is sooo lovely and speaks more English than she gives herself credit for. Her mom and aunt who own this haven are lovely too. I can't say a single thing bad about this hotel....in fact, when I return to Spain, I would drive out JUST to stay at this hotel. Cova's aunt makes the whole breakfast herself and it's delivered to your door-enough food to feed 6 people. I walked away from the main road and crossed a bridge and found a beautiful park like setting with trails-great walking. The only possible complaint I could begin to consider is that there isn't much to do in the evening except drive into Cuenca....so just bare that in mind ie. don't book if you are travelling with a bunch of busy teens. This is SUCH a nice haven from the busy streets of the cities of Spain and would be a nice place for a little romance if that's what you are looking for. FANTASTIC!!!!

Two words: simply brilliant World class property, great staff in an amazing location. Can’t wait to go back. We had a room overlooking the bridge and town, worth the extra little bit of cost. The town is lovely, and the restaurant, bar and facilities at Parador Cuenca were excellent

NH Ciudad de Cuenca

The Hotel NH Ciudad de Cuenca has just been renovated and it is located near restaurants and tapas , 15 walk to the shopping center el Mirador . It is just 30 minutes away from the old town on foot and on the other hand,it is 10 minutes away by car. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel too. In addition to this, there is a great area to park your vehicle and for free, this is fairly remarkable as well.

This is an excellent hotel.

The NH Ciudad de Cuenca was easy to find and, as several other reviewers have mentioned, there is ample parking on the surrounding roads and we got a space with no bother just outside the hotel. Check in was efficient and helpful, and the lady provided maps and tourist suggestions without being asked. Our double room on the sixth floor was spacious, very smart and very well appointed. The bathroom was also very smart and had good quality toiletries as well as big, fluffy towels. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is a bit of a walk from the city centre. The lady on reception suggested that it is 35 minutes, but clearly gauged our fitness levels incorrectly as we got to the centre of the new town in an easy 20 minutes - actually it wasn’t that easy, as the temperature had reached 34C! The Plaza Mayor in the old town was a further 10-15 minutes. Breakfast in the morning was very good and comprised the usual selection of fruits, cold meats, cheeses etc. We also discovered a couple of small pots of scrambled egg, which was a bit of a bonus. Service was very good and when we asked for tea it was made for us, which is a nice touch. In summary, this is a top class hotel that we would certainly use again.

Rustic charm in a fascinating city

Reviewed By Naana

This hotel is just lovely. Situated in a historical building a few steps away from the cathedral, it is located on the edge of the gorge overlooking the Huecar river and I think that just about every room must have a spectacular view. Our room was really spacious with a big double bed and a sofa bed, two big armchairs with a good sized wardrobe and the most amazing view across the gorge. There was a large bathroom with a tub and separate shower, all of it spotlessly clean. Friendly welcome at check-in and a small but good selection for breakfast including local pastries - the breakfast is served in the dining room with views across the gorge. There are lots of steps up and down inside the hotel so it might not suit somebody with reduced mobility. The Posada de San Jose is full of art and interesting artefacts, it's a really beautiful place offering rustic charm and reliable Spanish hospitality.

Very nice hotel, not modern

Reviewed By fun2fun

Nice hotel, with nice staff. Our room consisted of 2 rooms. Bedroom and living room. The bathroom was huge and included both a shawer . The room was furnished with wooden cabinets, and gave the feeling of a slightly antique house - I really liked it. The breakfast was very simple and modest, and the feeling was of a bit of chaos, especially since the meal was on a relatively small buffet for the number of diners.

Probably the best views in Cuenca

The location of the hotel is very convenient to explore the old town and restaurants. We stayed in a superior room with a balcony and the views were stunning - room 409. The staff were very helpful and patient with us as many of them is the restaurant do not speak English. The restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. There is a car park approximately 100meters from the hotel. I would imaging it would be worth booking a bay in busier times through the hotel.

Peaceful, relaxing, stunning views

Reviewed By jghastings

I stayed here for two nights in the sole Suite room they have, right up at the top. It is accessed from the third floor, with a staircase inside the bedroom to take you up to the floor above where everything is located (so it is not accessible for those with reduced mobility). The room was quite old fashioned but very large, and really nothing else matters once you take in the view from the private terrace. There’s a variety of chairs and loungers out there, so if you’re visiting in warmer weather than I was then it would be a fantastic place to sunbathe in absolute privacy (it’s literally the only terrace up there, with no-one overlooking it). The gorge is directly in front, with the old town continuing to snake further up the hill to the left, as well as down to the right towards the newer urban sprawl on the plain below. The Parador and its footbridge are all the way down below on the floor of the gorge. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the Raff San Pedro restaurant in the basement is one of the best in town. This is not a hotel for those who cannot manage hills, but then again Cuenca generally probably isn’t the place to go if you’re in that condition! Lovely, peaceful, relaxing stay. Very glad I followed the recommendation in the Rough Guide and chose this hotel.

Hospederia Seminario Conciliar de San Julian

The Hospedería del Seminario offers the comfort and charm of staying in an 18th century building on the gorge of the Júcar River. The Hospedería is located in the Conciliar Seminary of San Julián, exactly in the central square of La Merced, one of the most charming places of the historical town of Cuenca, both for its monumentality and for its location within the upper city. It has two interior courtyards, around which the rooms are arranged. Some of them give to the mentioned courtyards; others have a beautiful view to the gorge of Júcar, while others overlook Santa María street, which separates the Seminary from the Castilla-La Mancha Science Museum.

Nice, centrally located hotel

Reviewed By charal2020

The overall experience was nice. The hotel itself is a town relic, embellished with relics, which attributed to a solemn, but warm atmosphere. The bed was extremely comfortable, the room was exceptionally clean and the breakfast was nice. But,as there were two of us,we needed some extra surfaces to place our personal items. Lastly, we happened to stay there during a rather cold period and we felt that the room was insufficiently heated.

She also told us which way to walk around the old town so as to avoid the tourists.
