Older hotel, but beautifully refurbished

Very lovely hotel. The room was very clean (no carpets!) and had a mini fridge which we appreciated. It was on the first floor, close to the lobby, and we were impressed at how quiet our room was. It is close to the airport take off runway so there is a bit of jet noise during the day, but the John Wayne Airport shuts down to jet traffic every night, so there was no noise at night. I slept like a baby. The restaurant is nice also. We had several meals there and the waiters were polite and accommodating. You also had the option of eating indoors or in a gorgeous courtyard. We would be happy to visit this hotel again in the future.

We absolutely LOVED this hotel!

Reviewed By 4TravelFamily4

We just returned home from our first ever stay at this hotel, and we LOVED it! What prompted me to book it were the reviews stating it was in a beautiful setting and had kind employees and both proved to be spot on! The pictures on the site are very accurate. Avenue of the Arts Costa Mesa is a hidden gem. The first thing you will notice when you arrive is how many attentive employees there are to greet you. This property has door greeters to welcome you and plenty of front desk personnel to check-in guests. We were asked if we preferred a higher or lower floor and we were soon on the way to our room. Our two-queen room was spacious, very clean, and we loved the decor. We were at the beach and out visiting friends so we didn't get to spend as much time at the hotel as we would have liked - to sit by the pool and walk around the lake and pathways. We did eat breakfast at the on-site restaurant and it was all delicious. There are so many restaurants near this hotel as well as a mall. We went to the nearby Philz Coffee for the first time ever. Access to the freeways was quick and easy. Employees at all levels were kind with a strong customer focus. If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay, especially post-Covid when so many establishments are stretched thin due to staffing issues, do not hesitate to book your stay at Avenue of the Arts Costa Mesa, because you will feel warmly welcomed and valued. Thank you again, Avenue of the Arts Costa Mesa, for such a terrific stay!

Clean hotel room and I was able to relax, but not perfect.

As a Diamond member of 10+ years, I used to travel extensively. Whenever I’m visiting Orange County, I always stayed at Hilton Costa Mesa, because I love to eat at the food court at Mitsuwa supermarket right across from the hotel as I love Japanese food especially $26 beef tongue BBQ from the restaurant called Tsukasa. ( see the photo ) For my recent stay, I booked my room 2 weeks ahead of time with a member only prepaid rate and requested the room with a swimming pool view, but I was told that they have a large business group staying at the hotel and all the rooms with the swimming pool were taken by other guests. Because I booked with a member prepaid rate, it’s non-refundable and I was disappointed. Upon checking in, I wasn’t offered a food credit, but saw other guests were being offered this and I felt incredibly sad. I figured that because I booked with a member only prepaid rate which is a little cheaper than non-member rate, they didn’t give it to me as a punishment. My room was clean except the TV remote control that was disgustingly sticky. I’m sure many guests watch TV and use the remote control, but the house keeper never cleans it. Good thing I had a wet wipes to clean it. One thing I don’t like about this hotel is their checkout time is 11am. They didn’t offer me a late check out even with my diamond member status, so I figured because I booked with a prepaid discounted rate. I read other reviews on TripAdvisor, and some of the previous guests were complaining about the parking fee of $36. I also read one of the guests’ car was stolen while he had parked his car in the hotel garage, and there’s not even a security camera set up to determine what went wrong, so I decided to park a few blocks away for free. The street park is available at some of the street all day everyday for 24 hours except Thursday from 10am to 1pm for cleaning. I also noticed that some guests were parking in front of seven eleven parking which is across from the hotel. You don’t have to spend $36 to park the car at the hotel garage. Costa Mesa seems like a very safe town and street park is free at certain location. I post the photos of the free street parking location. You can also find out these information from the app called SpotAngels to find out more about other free parking location.

No housekeeping dated property and terrible service

Reviewed By 483todds

Worst hotel property I have stayed in and I’m a business traveler. The property is super dated and beds are old with dips in the middle. I returned to my room the next evening to find it was not cleaned. I was told by the front desk that you need to request your room to be cleaned and it was on the welcome letter which I didn’t have but remember seeing at the front desk. It was one page worth of information and must have been somewhere in there. Who has time to read that when traveling for business. I asked for a refresh of towels and my breakfast tray to be taken away. It was late. 40 minutes later someone shows up and I put dnd on door as they took too long and the knocked continually. They finally gave up and left but so much for sleeping.

Nice hotel, its clean and spacious with huge comfortable beds. There is also decent sound proofing between rooms and the corridors which is an underrated bonus. The breakfast is quite expensive however the service is great and very hospitable. I didn't try out the pool as sadly I didn't have the time, but it looked very inviting.

Motel 6 Costa Mesa, CA - Newport Beach

Renovated in June 2009 with a modern, European boutique-style flair , modern guestroom design that features bright accent colors. The room includes ambient lighting, wood-effect flooring rather than carpet, and a 32-inch flat-screen TV. The flat screen TV is displayed on the entertainment unit which conceals the door-less wardrobe behind it, thus combining two needs into one unit. Also included on the entertainment unit is a cubby for personal items and a multi-media panel allowing guests to plug in their mp3 players, CD players and laptop computers – this feature allows guests to listen to their favorite tunes or use the flat-screen TV as their computer monitor while enjoying Wi-Fi internet access in their room. The room also features pedestal beds with a new taupe-colored coverlet and pillow-top platform mattress. Guests will also notice the clean style and the upscale touch of the colored bed scarf that matches the accent wall color.

Not terrible, but not great

Look, I don’t understand why hotels still have rooms with double beds. Just put two queens in the room. There was space for that and then some. The room was very clean, but our AC unit leaked all over our floor. The property was clean and the staff was nice. There was not enough parking on our 2nd night so we had to park illegally on the property. I liked the proximity to the ocean for the price. We might be back, but I’ll look for other hotels first.

Exactly What We Expected

Reviewed By briancS6817MR

Having stayed at other Residence Inns, my wife and I had expectations going into this hotel. Our expectations were met. Finding the hotel is a bit difficult due to the trees around the sign. The check in was quick and professional. We were given our room and told where the fitness center room was and what time breakfast was served. Our room was spacious and clean. The mattress was a bit too soft, but acceptable. The water closet portion of the bathroom took some "gymnastics" to get in and out of it since it was just a bit too small. Our room was on the outer perimeter of the property next to a school bus lot. The school buses begin moving around at 5:30 a.m., which might be too early for some people, but not me. The morning breakfast was exactly what we expected. The eating area was clean and well laid out. The fitness center was very good. The hotel gets extra points from me due to the front desk clerk, Anthony. My wife and I got up early and made our way to the fitness center. I was proudly wearing my Ohio State shirt that morning. As we walked by the front desk, Anthony asked me if I was in room 42 or 27. Completely confused by his question, I showed him my key. Anthony then explained to me that 42 to 27 was the score of the michigan (initially lower case) Ohio State game that michigan won. I was pretty impressed by his wit. Well played Anthony. All in all, the Residence Inn in Cosa Mesa is very nice. If you see Anthony there, please tell him "Go Buckeyes!"
