Visited on Monday 12th November. They offer a 2 for 1 full buffet breakfast at TFE Hotels but both times we have stayed there they have not had the full buffet breakfast only a very limited choice continental breakfast. Not sure why this is the case when they advertise it on their website perhaps we have just been unlucky and picked a bad time when it is very quiet.

So our group just finished staying here and we just loved. Now I know it's not 5 star but has all the comforts that you need. The cabins were clean and warm and reception was great. Staff really don't mind a chat which is great too as it shows they do care for their customers. Now it is about 10 mins out of the city over the bridge which may be a downside to some but it is close to Richmond (a lovely historic town) and of course closer to Port Arthur and other such sites on that side. There is a mini putt-putt course which will test everyone. Kids can safely run about there as well. I'd happily stay again if we were down there in the future. Finally, the restaurant - top notch. It's called Nate's and its fair to say that the food quality is nothing short of excellent. There is a wide selection of foods, but the steaks are fantastic. This is understandable as Nate spent a couple of years at the famous Breakfast Creek Hotel in Brisbane, QLD cooking there. Those who know this place will know exactly what i mean when I talk about some of the best steaks in Australia. So his background is vert solid. They also have a great range of pastas and wood-fired pizzas. Also really great. Prices are very reasonable.

I find this review difficult to write, and somewhat frustrating. We have been patronising this restaurant for many years, and over the last few months visited several times. We have noticed a definite decline, in what used to be superb seafood at a reasonable price. First the pluses: the staff are excellent, helpful and efficient. The menu offers a good range of seafood, with specials on the blackboard. I cannot comment on dessert, because we don't do desserts. The obvious decline is in quality of seafood, quantity, and value for money. On one occasion my friend ordered flounder. It came out looking like a truck had run over the poor mite. My friend sent it back, and the waitress quickly replaced it with a much better fish option. Meanwhile another friend had flat head, obviously overcooked. Possibly they had precooked it, put it aside and then quickly refried it. If that is so, it is unforgivable. We are locals, well-versed in fish. We catch it, and we cook it. Please do not fob off second rate seafood onto us. A further point of contention is the magically diminishing seafood plate. Last time my husband ordered the hot plate, it was generous. This time, however, the piece of salmon was the size of a 50 cent piece, and the other piece of fish (ling) - also tiny. There was a tiny bowl of mussels, 6 oysters kilpatrick (which were lovely), and a small serve of calamari. Not great for $49. My seafood chowder was extremely salty, and relied too much on cream, rather then genuine seafood stock, for any flavour. Now, I recognise this place is very popular with Chinese tourists. That's great. I take pride in seeing them devour our seafood taken from pristine waters so unlike their own. But that is no excuse to increase prices - yes, they can afford it. To them, this is seafood paradise, and they will pay anything. But you need to cater for locals as well. Our local communities have not benefited one iota from the influx of tourists. Instead, we pay the price in terms of crowded roads, dangerous drivers, and litter dropped everywhere. Remember this, tourism is a fickle friend. When the fashion changes, or air travel becomes problematic, guess what - no overseas tourists. Only the locals....

What a joke of a place. Re: the winery. Visited today. Walked in, to where the sign says ‘cellar door’, nobody there, when we found some staff they were having a right laugh about something. When the girl came over, she didn’t introduce herself or even smile, she said “$10.00 for four wines”. To which I replied, already with a bad taste in my mouth, $10.00, bit much!.. “Well, you cant expect us to open a bottle of wine and not charge you anything!”. And I didn’t say, but what I felt like saying, is excuse me dear, I can expect whatever I wish and the majority of Tasmanian wineries, if they charge at all, charge around $5.00 per head. We left.We have visited the majority of wine regions on the mainland and now after today all of the regions in Tas, and this place has by far got to be the worst. Not only is it overpriced, it is clearly trying to be something it’s not, clearing trying its hand in every idea it can come across and seeing reviews from various different sources. Not doing very well in any. You’d think for how expensive everything is they could teach the staff some manners and sort out the ruddy road in and out. Waste your time and spend your money elsewhere.

Tasmania Golf Club

This is the first time that I have been with a group to this Golf Club. The wait for the first serve was a bit long. However they have served about 4 to 5 dishes of cheese and garlic pide for all of us at the table. I have asked whether these were free of charge and the waitress said yes. However, one lady has ordered such a dish beforehand not knowing that they would come free of charge. There was a great confusion amongst the group as nobody really knew what was really going on. It turned out that according to the waitress all such dishes were complimentary with the exception of one lady that has pre ordered the pide dish where she had to pay extra. It would have been a good idea if the staff of the dining room would have made it specifically clear right from the start whether or not these dishes were actually complimentary. Please bear in mind that it is not the money that is in dispute but it is merely a matter of principle.Apart from that the meals were not too bad but needed a bit more taste.

Ventured out over Easter. We have been before and everything was top notch then. Lovely crisp fruity riesling but had issues with the cheeseboard. The 'cheeseboard' was arranged on a dinner plate, the cheeses were delicious and the portions could have been more generous. There was not enough bread/crackers. There was strangely a small pot of honey which I have never seen before. Overall rather disappointing for a venue that has excelled in our experience.

Frogmore Creek has the worst restaurant customer service I have ever experienced, and that is saying something considering we did not even get the restaurant! The restaurant had been personally recommended by a close friend, so we booked our table early and the family were looking forward to the experience. Without any warning, about two weeks before the booking, we get an email generated from the booking engine advising the restaurant had cancelled our booking.Frogmore Creek did not have the common courtesy to even put a quick note on the cancellation. No explanation, no apology.End result, very disappointed family who now will tell everyone whom we hear is going to Tassie to avoid Frogmore Creek.Your team's customer service needs a huge kick in the butt. Not good enough.
