First time visiting this country. Horrible experience since day one. After checking every app looking for hotel found Los Portales, decide to stay because staff was professional and gently. Also was exhausted after a 18 hours flight. Breakfast was just ok. Eating the same thing for 18 days. No difference every day same menu. We had to extend our stay for couple weeks because we COULDN’T find flight to come back. Old furniture, bird poops all over the first & second floors. Loud party’s and wedding reception that you can’t sleep or work when they have activities. On 4/1/21 found flight to come back home, when to get COVUD-19 test. UNFORTUNATELY CAME BACK POSITIVE. I WAS HONEST, CALLED THE HOTEL INMEDIATLY TO MAKE THEM AWARE, SPOKE WITH ERICK, He said he will speak to manager and call me back, he never did. I called him back, he told me we couldn’t stay because they don’t have Cleaning personal or protocols to clean the room. WHO KNOWS IF I GOT INFECTED THERE BECAUSE IT WAS THE ONLY PLACE THAT I SAT DOWN TO EAT and they don’t enforce the mask wearing to visitors, just to there personal. I offer to clean myself because I own my own cleaning business in USA and i do have my cleaning procedures. He said NO, THEY WILL NOT EXTEND OUR STAY. After I spend 18 days stay. IM A USA CITIZEN I HAVE NO FAMILY HERE. EVENTHO I HAVE NO SYMPTOMS AT ALL, MINSA & DEPT. Of HEALTH OF CHINANDEGA DID A GREAT JOB. THEY CALL ME IMMEDIATELY AND GET MY ALL MEDS NEED IT FOR ME AND MY HUSBAND WHICH TESTED NEGATIVE. DONT WANT TO BE MEAN BUT CELBY-manager and Erick hope that you and your family goes to the same situation. I CAN’T WAIT TO GET BACK HOME. IF YOU THINK TO EVER TRAVEL TO NICARAGUA NEVER STAY IN LOS PORTALES. HERE ARE SOME PICTURES .

The rooms were spacious and clean. We had a little trouble with the t.v. at first and by the time we got it running we were ready to leave to go trekking in the canyon. The location is perfect to get to a nearby bar in the evening and hang out with some friendly locals. Breakfast came with the night stay and it wasn't exciting, but not bad to be included for the low price of the room. You had your choice of any style eggs with toast or a pancake with 2 slices of bacon. The waiter was excellent and attentive to fill our cups before the coffee ran out. The pool was clean but still too cold to enjoy while we were there. Very chilly and windy. There were a few mosquitos, so taking Deep Woods Off and/or long pants is highly suggested. Not at all bad for the value.

Worst of the Worst!

This place is a Disaster! Avoid it. DO NOT BOOK HERE! You will be disappointed. We booked a week in advance, turned up at 5pm to checkin and the 2 people at reception were bumbling, incompetent fools that could not find our booking, they asked for my name 4 times. It was an embarrassing joke, the hotel that was supposed to welcome us to check in to their Deluxe Suite didnt even know who we were! After 15 minutes the two clowns at reception (neither spoke any English) found the booking for the Deluxe Suite i made online a week earlier. They gave us the room key and we headed to the room. When we opened the door is discovered the room had NOT BEEN CLEANED AT ALL. IT WAS DISGUSTING! DIRTY, UNCLEAN, SMELLY, RUBBISH IN THE ROOM AND NO TOILET PAPER, NO FRESH TOWELS, NO FRESH ANYTHING. THERE DELUXE SUITE LOOKED LIKE A CRACK HOUSE! When we returned to reception and showed them photos of the room, they told us to wait for an hour and they will try and get the cleaner to return to the hotel to clean it. 15 minutes later they said the cleaner isn't coming, we don't have another room for you, we are going to cancel your booking! Never in my life have a ever deal with a hotel that is so grossly incompetent, uncaring and disorganized. ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. WE WERE TREATED LIKE CRAP FROM START TO FINISH. DO NOT BOOK HERE! You will be disappointed. We left Hotel Farallones went 50m down the road to Hotel Los Portales where they treated us with professionalism, dignity and respect. I highly recommend Hotel Los Portales, they appreciate your business.

Weinig comfort, dito service

I’m glad I didn’t book the Hotel, I went there with my family (13 people) for lunch, prices are not that cheap, which I wouldn’t mind if the service was right, but I was very disappointed with it, I ordered a Paella for 8 people ($12 per person)the owner told me it will take a little longer because it was freshly made but she never told me it was going to take 3 hours, then the waitress was awfully slow, bringing the drinks 4 at the time taking forever to bring the other 4. When food was finally ready they brought 5 dishes and no silverware, we asked for another round of drinks, they brought some of them but missing couple of them, we informed the waitress but he never came back with them, although at the end they were included in the bill. Waiting for the bill was another 30 mins, we had to ask for it twice, when I went to pay I told the that the service was very slow, but she only said they were very busy on that day ( 5 tables occupied) she never apologized or thanked me for the feedback, definitely they need better customer service!

Lo recomiendo como una buena opción en relación de precio. Recomendación para el personal .... que sonrían mas.

Don't check in!

Reviewed By Nicole A

I should have known when there weren't any reviews that this place was not going to be good, but it was actually so bad, I had to actually create a TripAdvisor account to tell about it. For the price, I wasn't expecting much. I expected the homestyle bedding and pieced-together construction. But what we weren't told is that in the 5 rooms we were using that we'd receive stained, worn-out towels; that we'd never receive the number of sheets or towels for the number of people registered for the room; that the advertised wi-fi isn't actually open to guests; that there was only cold water for the whole hotel; that some of our doors didn't actually deadbolt and some had large cracks with paper taped over them to block the light; that the showers would be dirty upon arrival; and the shower curtains would be dirty, old and worn. One of our rooms didn't even have a toilet seat when we arrived! (We had to go ask for one to be installed!) To top off my description of the room, I cannot forget the neon green paint that practically glowed off the walls. But the worst part was actually the lack of typical Nicaraguan hospitality. There is a bar & restaurant at the front of the hotel that plays LOUD music ALL night... and when I say all night, I mean they literally didn't stop until after 4AM. And after the music stops, the drunk people all head to the patio near the rooms and argue and yell for a couple more hours. To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe this only happens on weekends? But I wouldn't chance it on a weekday either! When a member of our party told the woman who seemed to be in charge that he had only slept 6 hours, she replied, "well that's enough"... to which he replied "no, over the last 3 nights". And she didn't seem to even care. This same woman felt free to insult my daughter's haircut (in front of her!). She also was a part of some huge confusion on our first night over our legitimacy as guests of the hotel. There was a lack of communication between her and the staff from earlier in the day and somehow she didn't know we were guests (even though we all had keys, and had signed the register and paid!) Lucky for us, we had asked for a receipt after paying for the first night. The only redeeming part of our stay was the breakfast we arranged with Miriam at the adjacent water park/amusement park (for lack of a better description). Miriam and her staff made an amazing breakfast for us each day, served with pride and true Nicaraguan hospitality. I'm not sure what was up with the crazy waterslides and seemingly dirty pools, but we got a kick out of the free range peacocks and deer!
