Everything about this place is perfect. The views are so beautiful, the staff is super helpful and friendly, the food is super good. We have a small car and the road to get to the hotel was not a problem at all but if you don’t have a car or don’t want to take yours the hotel has a shuttle from San Juan del Sur to the place and back at different hours. We spend the weekend there and the whole experience was nice. You can hike or go to the private beach (we couldn’t do it because it was raining) so you have the opportunity to do different activities in the hotel or just relax in one of the two pools they have. We recommend this place 100%

5 stars for Carlos

I don't like to complain about a hotel but rather want to provide information to others so that others know what to expect. We spent 2 nights over the Easter weekend so we were looking for a quiet place. AquaViva, being up on a hill was quiet so that was nice. The room itself was nice with good AC. My biggest comments are about misinformation about the hotel on the Hotels.com and AquaViva websites. The website stated that all rooms had ocean views. This turned out to be not exactly correct. Although the other rooms had unobstructed ocean views ours unfortunately was partially blocked by the adjoining room. Best views were from the balcony and toilet!! Web also mentioned a lobby with microwave - not existent, 24 hr reception, again not existent unless that meant calling poor Carlos out from his house somewhere in town, BBQ grille - none, web said near the beach in fact it is 1.7km and 200m above the beach (so steep one of our older taxis died on the way up and we had to walk) , web said spa services - none, there was no lobby or common area, breakfast minimal, no coffee, no bottled or pure water. In most places this might be Ok but as mentioned the location is far from town and up a very very steep hill. Definitely not recommended for children, older people or anyone with walking issues. Having said all of this, our contact Carlos was amazing. He was there for everything. Hiked up and down the 110 steep steps at least 20 times a day. I can't enough about him. He called the much needed taxis, recommended good coffee places and was very helpful. Note that we were able to rent a Honda 700 4WD buggy which was a great way to get around. One problem was no muffler so we had to wear earplugs. I highly recommend Carlos but not the hotel.

DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT

Reviewed By TOMAS S

The hotel is very poorly managed. They cancelled on me TWICE!! My first booking was done through expedia, 24 hours before the trip they contacted me to cancel, blaming an error on expedia’s part. I had to cancel my trip. Then, to avoid the “expedia mix up” I made a booking directly with the hotel, two months in advance. 10 days before my trip they cancelled on me AGAIN. And the worst part is the rudeness of the management about it. They even only partially refunded, I’m still arguing with them about it to get my money back. This hotel is a rip off. Don’t bother considering it. You might end up with a screwed up vacation like ours.

Oasis & Animals

This is our favorite place in Nicaragua. Efraim’s en his family are wonderful hosts, with a wealth of information, advice and suggestions. Their space is all about sharing the culture and nature of Ometepe, Nicaragua. The banana plantation is full of snakes, spiders, birds,... to spot. If you have a chance, Efraim is a great guide around the island and for hikes up the volcanos. Efraim taught us more about Nicaragua than any books or research. The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. The bathroom is comprehensive and clean too. The kitchen is great for preparing meals and packing lunches for your adventures. We enjoyed the open space to eat and the hammocks to relax. The location is off the beaten road, right next to a small beach facing east. We highly recommend this peaceful oasis in Ometepe, stay there as long as you can.

Epic Surf Trip

Best place to stay and surf in Nicaragua! Surf staff was awesome and took great care of us. The hotel was amazing. I'm a surf photographer and have been chasing surf all over the world for decades. Not only do I want great waves but I want a hotel room that I can return to from a hot day at the beach and relax. Best cocktails. Beautiful pool. Honestly the beds and rooms are so nice I didn't want to leave the room. I could have stayed in there all day and night. Hotel staff was awesome too. Definitely staying at Malibu Popoyo when I return to Nicaragua.

Across the street from a beautiful beach facing due west that provided for as good a sunset as I have ever seen, and at the base of Christ of the Mercy, Elementos Del Sur is the place to stay when exploring the beaches of the Pacific Ocean when in Nicaragua. Heath and Angelo have made it their mission to make your stay as complete and as comfortable as possible. Every attention to detail is so well thought out. Delightful shower, perfect air conditioning, towels for the refreshing clean and well maintained pool with two outdoor showers. Spacious Rain shower in the room was so nice. 10 minute walk to town where there are an abundant choice of venues for dinner or drinks on the beach. Centrally located to all of the other beaches in the area by car arranged by Heath and Angela made this location unbeatable. Angela arranged a great day for us including horse back riding on the beach and transportation to a beach that was just enclosed enough to make for a great day in spite of the wind. Clearly, they know the nuances of the area and will guide you honestly and appropriately. Breakfast was delicious and complete. Drinks were available and the house offers so many beautiful places to sit and relax, or lay in a hammock. The house itself, constructed in the early 1990’s is gorgeous and solid. Look no further when you’re in the area

Best place ever !!

I traveled solo for 2 weeks. I went to SJDS to take Spanish classes which were awesome....and I stayed at hotel Santo Pozo. I was EXTREMELY pleased with everything there. The owners were so super nice and helpful...my room was spotless and very updated and so comfy ! There was a nice little small and very private pool in the back of the hotel in a large beautiful tropical area with banana trees and flowers and birds singing . It was SO relaxing to stay here. It’s not in the middle of all the bars and restaurants and the bay is not in view,..but it didn’t matter...it was literally a 1 minute walk to get there and to see the bay. Laundry, groceries, shuttles to all beaches ,..and awesome restaurants and bars. I walked through town alone all the time - but also met a lot of solo travelers that I spent time with . I am going back in the fall for a month and staying here again without a doubt !
