Once a frontier town and home to Daniel Boone, today Charleston is the historic, sophisticated capital of West Virginia and home to a variety of exciting cultural and recreational attractions. The State Capitol, with its gleaming 23-karat gold dome and classic 20th-century architecture, is truly a sight to see. Most of the city's major landmarks are located right around the Capitol, making it easy to see everything. Wander around the meticulously landscaped grounds to view statues of historic figures like Stonewall Jackson and Abraham Lincoln. History and culture buffs will want to spend some time at the Cultural Center, which includes a state museum, reference and archive libraries, a theater and plays host to special events throughout the year. For those who prefer outdoor endeavors, more than a hundred miles of spectacular scenery await you on the Midland Trail scenic highway, also known as U.S. Route 60. Hop off at any point to do some antiquing, biking or hiking. The Kanahwa Forest offers more than 9,000 acres of exploration and recreation just south of town. Shopping, interesting attractions and plenty of outdoor fun make Charleston an ideal getaway.

Not at all happy with our stay. Dog barking in next room. The room was filthy. So was the furniture. Complained about the dog but didn’t do any good. Would not stay again or refer anyone there. Should have had a refund.

OVERCHARGES GALORE

Reviewed By Softailinit4

We were charged for multiple services that we did NOT use as well as for food from their restaurant which nobody in my family even knew they had an on premise restaurant. The set up of the establishment is not " quiet friendly " so be prepared for noise late into the evening. Staff was not overly friendly. Breakfast was ok for a hotel buffet, but don't be a minute late, they close the doors and lock them up promptly at the closing time. Management's attitude was very Matter of Fact when dealing with overcharge issues.

Hotel needs a renovation, ok but not quite a Marriott level experience.

Just no

We tried to make the best of this one night stay…changed rooms at check in when the stuffy smell and mold in the bathroom wall drove us away. The next room was decent enough but this hotel is just sad. Needs a renovation in the worse way. Has that old design from years ago with tiny elevators, tiny doorways, tiny bathrooms and cheap looking decor. Everything is dated and only marginally clean. The breakfast area was deplorable! Every single chair was stained and the guests trash bins were disgusting. Just go elsewhere

Not up to Hampton normally high standards

Reviewed By ajayhawkfan

Not up to Hampton normally high standards. I have stayed here twice and there was no difference. The first thing I noticed was how much trash in in the parking lot. Both times I noticed it. During my first stay my car was searched. It was a rental and nothing was stolen because nothing was there to steal but could tell someone got into it at night. I mentioned it to the clerk and got a "that's too bad". I was parked next to the back door in a "Diamond" parking spot. During my second stay I was on the 5th floor. There were stains on the ceiling and a hole in the bathroom wall where a hook was at one time. The beds were comfortable with nice linens. The rooms were also clean. I'm not a fan of the location. The hotel by itself, across a river from some other hotels. In the trees along the river there looks to be a homeless camp. I'm guessing someone from the camp went through my car.

Terrible place

Reviewed By Kbcain

Wish I give negative stars. We reserved 2 rooms for the night. It took us almost an hour to get checked in, the gentleman at the desk was the only positive thing at this place. We went to our rooms and our friends got right in their rooms without any problems. We tried to get into our room and the curtains were closed and the deadbolt was locked. Someone was in the room. We walked around the corner and the door to the room opened. I went back around to see who was there and the door slammed shut. My husband went to the front desk to let them know and came back with who I assume was the manager. She's yelling that there was no one in the room. Amazingly when she came upstairs the curtains to the room were open. She told my husband she was kicking us out. When he went to our friends room where I was waiting he screamed profanities at that that was not his room. He tried to tell her that they were with us and she said she was calling security and the police. He finally had to yell that they were with us because she wasn't listening. Her behavior was bizarre. She then yelled that our friends were also f-ing kicked out. She yelled over the railing for security and told us we were going to be arrested and that she was calling the police. We got our things and went down to the office to get our refund and there was a large man standing blocking the door while she was behind him screaming that we were liars. We told the man that we had no reason to lie and we just wanted the refund she said she was going to give us. She was screaming in the office that she had already refunded our money. He said she said one thing and we said another, but she was the one who paid him. I said all we want is our receipt to verify our refund. She was screaming in the office that we had to wait on the police. The police showed up as she finally gave us our receipt. We walked to our car and the the policeman came over with a puzzled look on his face and said, I have no idea what went on, but I suggest you don't come back. We told him we had no intention of ever coming back. I have never had such an odd experience in my life. All she had to say was I'm sorry, I'll check it out or give you another room. We weren't angry or upset to begin with. We just wanted a room for the night.
