Resort Dinner Review

Reviewed By Paradise566682

"Last week, us year 12 students from NPA State College dined at the CYPL's restaurant and had a 3 course meal to do a review. We loved the experience and thought the staff were very friendly and professional. Our favourite dishes were the Korean BBQ Pork Belly, Arancini Balls, Mackerel Nummus and White Chocolate & Pecan Pie. The different flavours of the meals worked well together and they were all presented to a high standard. Big Esso to the Resort for hosting us, Year 12 Hospitality students :)"

The Greenhoose

Greenhoose is a friendly, family-run accommodation centre nestled amongst the rainforests of Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park, approximately 8km (10min) from Lockhart River. Set on 240 acres of one of Australia’s most diverse environmental habitats, Greenhoose is a base from which to explore tropical rainforest, savannah, and reef. The accommodation is ideal for birdwatchers, naturalists and trip to the tip convoys. Rooms are built from repurposed dongas and come as double ensuite, single ensuite, family shared and single shared. All of our rooms come with air-conditioning, verandah, tea/coffee facilities, bedding and free-WiFi. Our single and double ensuite rooms have a shower, basin and toilet plus desk area, flat-screen TV, and tropical rainforest views. Our single shared and family rooms provide homely, comfortable spaces with access to communal bathrooms. Additional facilities include an alfresco dining area with BBQ, books and puzzles and a tropical garden flourishing with butterflies and delicious coconut trees. Guests also love the generous home-style meals available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Greenhoose was established in 2013 by Stu and Lynn Layton after they fell in love with the area and wanted to settle indefinitely. Joining them as hosts are Tim and Jane, who also manage the business and are wonderful sources for local knowledge and a laugh. Together, they’ll welcome you with genuine hospitality and ensure your stay is a comfortable one. Greenhoose is accessible via car, plane and boat and is approximately 800km north of Cairns. Driving requires a well-maintained 4WD as the Peninsula Development Road (PDR) will take you through river crossings and dirt roads but there’s plenty of roadhouses along the way to rest and refuel. Flights can be booked through SkyTrans or you can anchor off the coast at Portland Roads. We can also organise pickup/dropoff from Lockhart River Airport and Portland Roads. Greenhoose offers unparalleled access to Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park, Australia’s largest lowland rainforest and a unique biodiverse area that mirrors Papua New Guinea in flora and fauna. Birds such as the Magnificent Rifle-bird, Eclectus Parrot, Northern Scrub-Robin and Palm Cockatoo are common sightings at Greenhoose and a private walking trail takes guests on a circuit through the rainforest. Explore The Great Barrier Reef’s hidden gems with boat ramps at Quintell Beach and Portland Roads providing access to beautiful fishing for Nannygai, Coral Trout and Jewfish. Lockhart River is a small indigenous town famous for artwork created by the Lockhart River Art Gang and also provides essential fuel and supplies. You must also see Portland Roads, a quiet township comprised of a few houses which was once a vital base in the Battle of the Coral Sea and remnants of the old jetty can be seen at low tide. Also nearby is the postcard-perfect Chilli Beach, renowned for its palm-fringed beaches and clear blue water. Both are must-see places during a stay.

Great people, in the midst of it.

Sophie and Mick the hosts were fantastic, up for a chat always to help you find out about all the places to expore and experience in this wilderness environment. Cabins were small but balconies where we spent most of the time with fellow guests were wide and inviting. The gardens and cabins were set amongst the rainforest allowing the wildlife to come to us. Cabins 3* Balconies 5* Siting and gardens 5*+ but the tipping point was the cafe with take away food at great prices for guests and locals. WQell done 5+.

Great customer service

Reviewed By ianshell

Room appeared clean and tidy, despite a bad smell - but on closer examination it was not. Dirty pillows, somebody’s clothes hanging in the wardrobe, a giant cane toad in the toilet. Front counter staff the next day were very apologetic and displayed awesome service; but experience was enough to avoid in future.

Best Accomodation in Weipa

Reviewed By StefanM433

I have stayed here some 3 or 4 times this year and its a well by Mary. Rooms are usually available even if your on the early flight up from Cairns which is a big plus. Rooms are spotless and well maintained and good water pressure in the shower. There a small kitchenette with a microwave if you want to cook. Dining is limited in the early part of the week locally so bear this in mind. The Motel is a handy walk away from The Golf and The Bowls Clubs.

Heritage is ok but Manager is rude

Reviewed By Mimosa051944

Stayed at the Heritage. Great central location in Weipa next to Woollworths supermarket. But the visit is spoiled by the rude behaviour of Steve, the manager. I have been to 155 countries and round the world ten times but have never struck a manager who did not have customer care at the top of his agenda, His approach shocked me1
