If I had not checked the TripAdvisor, I would not have entered the Muralhas Bar because its too ordinary appearance could not have inspired me. But if you dare go inside and order some food, everything changes.
Simple and unassuming interior with some nautical objects hung on the walls giving you a somewhat feeling that you are in a fisherman's hut. Also the food is simple but very delicious at the same time. We did enjoy our seafood - lapas, shrimps, bacalhau - and our son loved his veal steak. The prices are as cheap as the food is amazing - we paid just 26.50 € for a lunch for 3, including water and beer. Service was very friendly and the lad even showed us his selfie with Cristiano Ronaldo who was there a couple of days before.
If we stayed at Canical, we would go to the Muralhas Bar at least once a day!

The Cabrestante Restaurant is located in the Caniçal, parish of the municipality of Machico. Here you will have the opportunity to taste the best flavors coming from the Sea both in terms of Seafood as well as Fish as an alternative you can also count on good steaks of the first quality fresh meat. And speaking of quality this restaurant follows the HACCP standards thus guaranteeing not only quality with hygiene and safety, counting thus with a professional team that waits for you to serve you attentively. It is also in the Caniçal that is the only natural sand beach in Madeira called Prainha being quite famous and where in summer there is a great influx of local people and tourists. At the level of festivals stands out the Arraial of Our Lady of Mercy where there is a procession very curious because the pilgrims make the procession, not by foot, but by boat and where anyone can participate, entering a boat for free. This village reaches about 30,000 visitors. Come and pay a visit to
Had lunch here yesterday. Both my wife and I king prawns together with salad and chips. Washed down with some nice wine. Out desert was creme caramel again very nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would go back again.

We came of the main express way at the first sign for Canical and drove down to the shore line where we had been told we would found good local food. We were able to park opposite this restaurant in a free parking space. We chose the local espada, but the menu was very extensive. We could see very nice shell fish dishes and the table next to us chose their own fish to have freshly filleted and cooked. Lunch for 2 with drinks cost 20€ and portions were generous. We will go back and be more adventurous on our next trip.

recommended to us by waitress in our hotel, wide choice for a 5 euro lunch menu, lots of locals use this place so pleasantly busy, they didn't speak English so they got a shopkeeper from down the street to come up and help, very friendly clean restaurant, (I think an expresso was .50 euro).
its overlooking Canical on the ER109 on the way to the headland, take the first Canical turnoff off the main VR1 road

Well recommended, we did enjoy our meal here. It is a no-frills building, which the Madeira people choose to eat at - a recommendation indeed.
Canical is small, without most of the usual touristic hooha; and lunch is leisurely, with time to enjoy the amazingly fresh locally-caught fish, and seafood - the distinction being grilled limpets [a speciality] or fish-on-a-stick [a considerable feast].
The day we went it was bright, hot sun, and the cool breeze inside the restaurant was welcome. Families were enjoying their meal, workmen from the nearby building, and a very few tourists. Really appreciated it!

Whistle stop tour of the bars before catching the roller coaster SAM bus back to Funchal.
Polite service , good English when my Portuguese failed me.
Massive single bola ICS cream cone for €1.95. Probably the best way to taste honey cake. About 15 flavours some yoghurt and sorbet included

Quality of the food with a very low standard - we had octopus, steak and chicken.. definitely need to improve quality of cuisine as so far this was definitely the worst lunch experience during our stay in Madeira.
On the positive side the waitress was very nice and she even carry to return one of the dishes back to the kitchen as steak was like a rock.

Captains is located in a holiday enclave right next to the harbor. It is a mixture between a bar and a restaurant and there is not a lot of service but the food is surprisingly good. We visited for lunch and ordered four different main courses and everyone were very satisfied with the meal served both in form of size and taste. It's not a place we would travel to visit but it's definitely ok for lunch or a casual dinner.

Located at the parish of Caniçal (Madeira Island), its specialty is fish and seafood (also with meat dishes). Come and try the unique flavor of our Fried Octopus, and delight in other dishes (rockfish, scabbard fillet, damselfish, limpets, or even steak). Come to our restaurant and see the quality of our cooking!
Very delicious octopus. Its the house specialty and absolutely delicious. Come early for lunch to avoid waiting. Or make a reservation. Highly recommended. You can order it with chips and salad too. Make sure you ask for the "oferta da casa" at the end of the meal and you'll get a nice digestive to end the meal.
