Retro style in the heart of the nation's capital

Without doubt, the premier hotel experience in Canberra. The fireplace and gym were without doubt highlights. Also, absolutely thrilled to have a full service minibar facility available; something which is regrettably absent more and more these days...

I would not stay anywhere else in Canberra by choice. This hotel has a warm friendly welcoming feel about it backed up by large comfortable rooms and great service. 3 night stay this time and not a thing to complain abut and plenty to be happy about. Such a treat to have a bar in the hotel and a breakfast restaurant (MUSE) and a dining option at night. Throw in free parking and the location and you cannot go wrong.

A little satelite hotel but the bed is worth it on its own

I've been meaning to go to Little National Hotel Canberra for *years* since it was first recommended to me. Now that I no longer live in Canberra, I finally visited as an outsider and therefore had my pretext to come here. So glad I did! The biggest selling point is the bed and my gooly gosh it is big! I've never slept in a King Sized bed before and the mattress itself is perrrrfect. Not too soft, not too hard. Such a good night's sleep. And a pleasant enough view out the window looking towards Hotel Realm with glimpses of the hills either side. Bathroom is small and has no bath but has everything else you need. Shower is great - has both a stable nozzle and a detachable one. I think I used a hairdryer for the first time since I was a teenager?? There's no room-service but instead you can order UberEats, Deliveroo, etc and the staff will bring it up to your room for you (so, room service with outsourced food, if you will). There's no kitchen on-site so this is actually quite a clever work-around. if you want to dine out, the rest of the Doma owned hotel empire is just across the road with plenty of great restaurants and bars to choose from. I went to Ostani one night and enjoyed the cosy atmosphere. Ideally, I'd like there to be somewhere to eat at Little National itself. However, I wouldn't want to have that if it meant giving up the whole compact approach and comparatively reasonable prices. Lounge space felt a little odd. It's not staffed and has what I'd call a glorified mini bar: a small bench area (kind of like an office kitchenette) with fridges of wine bottles, a coffee/tea making machine and a microwave. You sign off as you would a mini bar. But without staff, there's not much hustle bustle and because there were few people using the space while I was there, it felt a bit empty and alienating to me. Probably good for those who want peace and quiet and obviously good for COVID purposes. Staff were fantastic. Really warm throughout my entire stay and clearly knew what they were doing. Shoutout to Jasjeet making me feel really welcome when I rocked up super tired. He explained everything clearly and even though my brain was foggy, I didn't need to ask them to repeat anything :)

needs refurbishment and an improved maintenance regime

Reviewed By mcharles2017

the premises are adequate and basic however our six nights' stay was marred seriously by (i) the extremely uncomfortable lounge suite (there is just a two-seater and no armchairs) -- this item needs to be dumped forthwith; (ii) another dilemma was the door to the patio which had a faulty lock (it probably had been forced at some juncture) so to secure the premises and our property, we purchased a dowel rod and a saw to cut same from Bunnings and fitted the rod into the door track to prevent unwanted entry; this is quite unacceptable since we asked on our first morning to have the door fixed and six days later it had not been touched and finally (iii) the clothes dryer takes forever (more maintenance or replacement required) - please shop around, you can achieve much better value for your dollars (the old Medina Apartments - now Adina - next door for instance)

Delicious meal, but no TV subtitles

Reviewed By Y9601BBjohnt

We stayed at Hotel Kurrajong for two nights, choosing it mainly for its location. because we wanted to visit both the Jeffrey Smart exhibition at the NGA and the Shakespeare to Winehouse exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. The room was small but very comfortable, and the only meal we ordered (apart from breakfast in the restaurant) , delivered to our room, was absolutely delicious - obviously they have superb chef. My only serious criticism is that, as I am severely hard of hearing, I find it impossible to watch movies or TV without subtitles. I couldn't believe that, unlike almost every other accommodation we have stayed in - even the cheapest - the TV in the room didn't 't have this facility. I checked twice with different people on reception, and both confirmed this. I feel this is discrimination against the disabled, even if only by omission. Apart from this (and the fact that my wife didn't find a shower cap) we enjoyed our stay and would certainly come for a meal in Chifley's if and when we again visit Canberra.

Location with comfort

Reviewed By Boambee50

This is not the most upmarket accommodation I’ve ever been in but my daughter and I rated our two bedroom apartment five star as it was so clean, well appointed and very comfortable. We stayed during a particularly cold week in Canberra. Walking into a warm apartment on a freezing night, after a long drive, was heavenly. Everything we needed was there. The restaurant provided a tasty take away meal. Then, we fell happily into beds that had electric blankets, quality bedding and lots of it. The location was excellent for everything we wanted to do in Canberra - visiting family and friends, shopping and seeing the sights. The staff at reception were helpful and friendly. I would recommend the Forrest Hotel and Apartments to anyone who would like to save on accommodation costs to spend on experiences in a great city.
