McKinleyville is located 5.25 miles (8.4 km) north of Arcata, at an elevation of 141 feet (43 m). The population was 15,177 at the 2010 census, up from 13,599 at the 2000 census. This unincorporated community is the third largest community, after Eureka and Arcata, on the far North Coast and larger than five of seven cities in the county. It is also the location of the Arcata-Eureka Airport, the largest airport in Humboldt County and the region.

Most places are OK but run-of-the-mill. Sushi Spot transcends. Eshewing mushy quantity, Sushi Spot invites bite-by-bite mindfulness. My Japanese family always makes each person's plate communal, and it was __all__ fresh, crisp, tasty, and creatively plated. I like tempura, and this is the place: insanely delectable. My brother's rolls were, well, amazingly economical and effective to every ingredient. Effective, responsive, and unobtrusive, the service was definitely a birdie.

Came back to Tomos after our first visit years ago, and just as satisfying as the first time. Busy lively place, packed with locals and tourists, and the lovely smells of lots of interesting dishes being whisked around to various tables. Interesting specials, both drinks and food. We had the rainbow poke and the grilled salmon teriyaki dinner - both scrumptious!

I had dinner here last night with friends. I ordered sauteed veggies with chicken in a delicious garlic sauce.and rice. It was positively delicious!! Service was good. The place was hopping due to great food and reasonable prices. There were 5 of us, and it was a 15 minute wait. However, the staff is happy to take your phone number so you can walk around outside until your table is ready.

We were here for lunch. It was not crowded. They had three sushi chefs. It STILL took a long time to get our food, and we were all served at different times. So, those that got their food first had to wait a long time before everyone was served. The sushi pieces were quite small, not even what we expect as normal size. (Normal to us is what you see in local supermarkets.) The sauces that they use were pretty bland. Thank goodness they had wasabi. Frankly, we've had better sushi at Safeway. (Sorry. Its true.) This place is overpriced for the food and service you receive. I do not recommend it.

So we were there for a concert and decided to go early for dinner. It had been years since we had eaten in Alice's and were curious about it. Friends had reported mixed reviews - some loved it, others not so much. Our experience, thankfully, was a very good one! The service was top quality, the recommendations from our wonderful server spot-on, and the food really delicious. My friend, a vegetarian, had sushi rolls and was quite complimentary about their extensive vegetarian list of options. I had lemon garlic salmon with wild rice pilaf and seasoned vegetables - all absolutely delicious. Salmon can be tricky and there's nothing worse than getting an overcooked piece, but this was as moist and delicious as it could be, a generous thick slice that melted in my mouth. The vegetables and rice were excellent sides and I declared it a great meal. The cost in the high $20's seemed high - perhaps it's better to have lunch there instead.
