an outstanding 3 nights at the El Mirador

Reviewed By VancouverKeith

Stayed here 3 nights and we could not have been happier...bright, clean room, great location, very friendly staff and outstanding food....what more could you want ? We had a room on first floor ( no elevator )...it was large with a comfortable double bed, safe, mini fridge, tv and a balcony with wonderful views. Walkin shower. Very very clean. Dead quiet... Food was outstanding...give the chef a raise. We ate dinner there for all 3 nights....a choice of 4 appetizers, and 4 mains, dessert, a glass of wine and bottled water for 21€ pp ! Menu changed daily ( also in English ) and varied...fish, veal, pork, cuttle fish, chicken...nice size portions and all excellently prepared. Breakfast was also excellent..scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages and usual cold cuts, fruit, bread...we ate very well here. Great views from dining room Location was prime...in rural setting about 15 minute walk from Broto. Only sounds were birds, crickets and cow bells. Lots of walks in area. 10 minute drive to Torla and 20 to the park. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Alvaro provided lots of info on things to do and was very helpful with my computer woes. There was a waiter whose name we didnot get who provided wonderful service at dinner for two nights. There is bar with seating at rear of hotel overlooking Broto valley and a few chairs at front of the hotel. We liked sitting there watching the walkers and the cows with their calves across the road. A great stay...hightly recommended for a stay in Broto

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location

Reviewed By juliesro

We stayed at the Pradas Hotel for 2 nights in June. The hotel is very cute - like a typical mountains place from the movies: stone building, wooden reception and incredible views. The hotel is located in the center of the town right next to the cathedral (but thanks to the noise protected windows cathedral ring doesn’t disturb you). In 5 min walking distance you will find an incredible waterfall, and few nice restaurants. We were lucky to get a corner room with a king size bed on the second floor: the room is spacious and clean, the view is very nice (in the corner room besides little cute terasse you also have a corner panoramic window that might be also used as a terasse), the bed is comfortable - all you need for the perfect vacation. That’s a place we would like to come back to!

Casa Rural El Porton de Murillo

Country Inn in a Scenic Town

Reviewed By ndser

We stayed at the Casa Rural El Porton de Murillo in Broto for 1-night in late-May (€95). The casa rural was a alpine country lodge of indeterminate age, all wood and stone in four towering floors topped with a steep, gabled roof. To find it, orient on the church to the right as you enter town, drive up the narrow medieval streets and be sure to circle behind the church (on the side away from the highway), then drive past the school to the last building on the left. The casa's stone & timber construction gave a sense of quietness & tranquility the instant we entered the front door. It has been well maintained and updated (except a dysfunctional elevator that would have been appreciated getting to our room on the top floor). We chose the junior suite, that takes up the entire floor, an open and spacious room with a wide deck with fabulous views of the town, waterfalls and the mountains. The room had peaked dark wood ceilings, wood floors, and hardwood furniture that could have made it gloomy, but it was lightened by white walls and view windows on 3 sides. It was sparsely furnished with a queen bed with oak headboard & side tables, small couch, 2 large clothes cabinets, chest of drawers, 2 cow hide director's chairs, TV but no safe or mini-refrigerator (there was one in the guest's kitchen on the ground floor, where there was also a microwave, wood-fired oven and stove, a large table). The bathroom was huge, with a double-wide couple's jetted tub set by a window, a huge vanity with 2 sinks, and a separate shower. Breakfast was served in the 1st floor breakfast room adjacent to a seating area with games and a TV, with a deck with seats and a view of town and waterfalls in front, a patio area with tables & chairs, and access to a large pool on another terrace (not in operation when we were there). Breakfast was a bit gourmet, with apples topped with yogurt, fresh baked muffins, croissants & bread, coffee & juice – sparse in variety, but filling none-the-less. As for the town itself, Broto seems unknown to tourists but is a charming little village with a small Medieval centre near the church and along the river upstream from the bridge, and a pretty trail up to the waterfalls. It is well worth a couple hour visit or, if you are at the end of a day of touring, an overnight stay. The town has several restaurants and we noticed a mini-market on our stroll through the newer part of the village. In summary, the casa rural was a comfortable hotel with a helpful host that delivered excellent quality at a reasonable price. Recommended, if a stay in Broto fits into your itinerary.

Huge room with balcony in a quaint little town

Reviewed By explorer630

There are no "must see" sights in Broto (although there is a nice waterfall a short hike from the town center) so you wouldn't find the town listed in most travel books. Perhaps it's the quiet, the lack of tourists, and the attractive countryside that led me to stop here overnight on my road trip from Barcelona to Bilbao. I'll admit I was a little hesitant at first about the Hotel Latre. Its exterior is a little plain and it only has a 1 star rating, although stars are generally awarded based on the facilities (meeting rooms, swimming pool, etc.) more than anything else. Once I saw the room I was sold. It had a beautiful wooden floor, a large balcony overlooking a backyard flanked by the side of the mountain, a large comfortable bed, a mini-fridge, desk, LCD TV and lots of storage space. In fact, this was the largest room of my 17 day road trip, and ironically the least expensive. Parking was free. A simple breakfast was 4 euros extra. There were a few other hotels in town that had more "stars" and were more expensive, but probably not as pleasant as the Hotel Latre.
