Fantastic huge artichokes vinaigrette to start were a meal in themselves and we struggled slightly to consume all that followed by way of enormous beautifully cooked entrecotes, chips, vegetables and a vast side salad which was not ordered. Declining any kind of dessert we waddled away very full and not much poorer as the prices are extremely reasonable.

We stopped by for lunch on spec, get here early as possible as tables get reserved especially on weekends Saturday market day. Had wonderful simple un fussy bursting with flavour food. The hot prawns with garlic butter perfect starter with bread, then the pollock fillet and mashed potatoes with an amazing jus to drizzle where you wish over superbly cooked fish. Creme Brûlée perfectly cooked finished us off. Very happy customers hope to visit again staff are very helpful and friendly. The original decor is fabulous has such ambiance.

Brasserie de l'Europe

Typical of an old town French hotel brasserie. When I went it was very quiet with just two local chaps seated just behind me. (It's a French thing that in an empty restaurant the waiter will sit you right next to the only other customers within miles?? )The restaurant was recommended to me for the seafood but there wasn't a lot to choose from, I just think I had picked the wrong day. I had the squid salad which was enormous and very tasty. The house wine was also perfect and only €3 for a glass. I asked if the squid was in rings and fried in batter, as I wasn't keen on facing one with all the bits on, and was told "non". The waiter and I did finally establish that the squid was cut into rings, although when the salad arrived it was diced!! C'est la vie, this is why I love France. Staff were excellent and would recommend. Entertainment was provided by another table of French diners, three big chaps and one big lady, who were also seated right next to me again!! To watch a team like that consuming a vast amount of food and drink at record speed, while conversing at full volume is a sight to behold, dining is a serious business there! Maybe the plates once had patterns on, but these guys take no prisoners and you almost felt that when they had finished there probably was no need to bother washing the crockery, it had been rendered spotless!! Worth a visit though, I will try again when more choice of fresh fish is available. Give it a go.
