I had lunch here with some friends I'd met from Budapest. They had eaten here before. I had the onion soup, it was delicious, along with a great salad, actually more than I could eat. Right near one of my favorite polish pottery shops, Henries.

We were in Boleslawiec for the day, shopping for Polish pottery and decided to stop for dinner before returning to Krakow. We knew from the moment we arrived at this restaurant that it was going to be special because the cute little cottage with pottery in front and pig on roof is too cute to miss! But the best part was waiting for us inside! What a delicuous polish feast! Yum Yum Yum! All the traditional Polish classics and more! We ordered a large selection of items and loved it all! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Poland! If you only eat one meal in Poland, this should be it!

Pod Zlotym Aniolem

The restaurant Under the Golden Angel is the oldest restaurant in Boleslawiec. It was first mentioned in the 11th century and up to the 20th century it was a tavern. In 1538 the German Emperor Ferdinand I stayed here, in 1581 the tavern had burnt during the fire of Boleslawiec. The owner at the time Barthel Wolfarm reconstructed the inn to include horse stables. During this time he has built the beautiful gothic portal which resembles birch-tree roots. On the 14th of September 1610 the Chancellor of Czech Republic was a guest in the tavern. Also in 1683 Helen Elisabeth von Gledis was baptised in the tavern. In 1776 after another fire of the town the tavern was sold to Anton Mathaej. He decided to create a bas-relief with the Golden Angel and renamed the Tavern to its present name. Previously the inn was called Under the White Angel. In 1796 Johann Gottfried Mathaej took over the establishment from his father and had the pleasure to host the Napoleon himself on the 12th December 1812. The daughter of Johann - Louise Mathaej married Engelhard Gansel who at the time was the master of masonry guild. He became the greatest architect in Boleslawiec. His work includes the Tower by the Protestant Church, Railway Viaduct over the river and his home residence at Zgorzelecka 19 Street. On the 5th May 1848 Johann's son Carl Friedrich Mathaej took over the business and his family owned the inn until the II World War. During the war the building was completely destroyed and was rebuilt after the war ended. During the 60's the restaurant was under the management of Polish government's own organisation called 'PSS'. In 1991 the restaurant was taken over by the current owners who also in 1999 bought the Gansel residence. 12th December 1812 - Emperor Napoleon visit in Tavern Under the Golden Angel At 3 am Napoleon's procession arrived in front on the inn. This happened during his retreat after his unsuccessful campaign in Russia, his sledges were damaged and needed repair. During the repair Napoleon ate noodles with roasted fruit, the meal was served in a special vase made from Proskau porcelain from Napoleon's collection. He did not have any money to pay for the services so he decided to pay with this vase. The vase is still in the hands of the owners at the time. During the repair of the sledges Napoleon's attendant spotted a pair of beautiful horses in stbles. He demanded to swap the horses however owner's wife did not agree to that. After short negotiations the horses were swapped for the damaged sledges. Louise took sledges as a part of her dowry to the Gansel family. After that Gansel family moved to the USA to work as farmers. During tough times at the beginning of the 20th century they were forced to sell them and sold them during an auction in New York for 35USD and the story was featured in newspapers. Nowadays the sledges are displayed in museum. This history was written from the documents of current owners of the Restaurant. Vase from Proskau factory (near Opole) - from Napoleon's collection

I stayed two nights and wish I didn't. There is an odor everywhere that resembles a mix of mold and dust. I had a deluxe room that was cramped, and equipped with an old, lumpy, thin pad. The fridge wasn't plugged in so it was useless. I had a meal with my husband and his pork was good but my venison was grizzle. Breakfast was ok, but service was poor, as it was at dinner. If repeating the journey, I'd make Boleslawiec an afternoon stop, and spend more time in Zamek Karpniki. Wifi was weak and un-useable in the room.

Welcome to Kruszyna Tavern – an amazing place, near the usual highway. The true tavern – with good food and interesting company. To a place from which you wouldn't want to escape. Whether in summer or winter, a man is embraced with a blissful laziness and the desire to stop, and taste. Most of all, its excellent cuisine, that is different in summer and different in winter; cuisine with traditions based on the old and proven recipes, in which, when sweltering heat you will quench your thirst with curd and in addition, you'll be able to taste dumplings with blueberries. In Kruszyna, it smells different than anywhere else – wood, smoke from the fireplace, dried herbs. After your meal, you can sink into a soft chair and get charmed by the fire from the fireplace. Kruszyna's location at the transit crossroads of East - West and North - South near the German border makes our tavern a perfect place for a stopover on your journey. Anyone who stops in Kruszyna, will find comfortable settings and conditions in order to rest, for family or business meetings. The tavern is an extraordinary place, therefore it is not a surprise that a lot of people choose it to celebrate the most important events in their lives here – weddings, baptisms and communions. We offer: •Traditional polish cuisine – meat and vegetarian dishes, it varies depending on the season of the year. •Guest rooms – for road-weary guests, who wish to stay with us for longer, we offer accommodation in comfortable, cosy rooms at affordable prices. It is a perfect way to explore picturesque parts of Boleslawiec. •Bonfires, feast and entertainment in the open air – if you desire a relaxing evening by the fire, we guarantee great fun just under the stars. •Skansen - its unique atmosphere is not only created by the tastes and smells, but also by the objects which were intented and deliberate selection to the wooden interiors 'with soul'. Old utensils, pots, old farm equipment, even a telephone and other various instruments discreetly remind us of the elapsed time and teach us respect the past. •Excellent location – it is a base for those guests who wish to explore the region. We work for you all day! We particularly welcome bus groups whose service are our pride and specialisation.

So amazed by the staff, service and pluthera of information provided by Jared, the hotel manager, that we even stayed the night! Our entire family had big eyes when the food was presented; wowed by how wonderful it looked and we all over ate because it was so delicious! You must put this on your bucket list! I was astonished about the nice Restaurant in the cellar. it was completely redone with lots of details and artistic features reminding yourself to a visit in Paris in a small but very charming Restaurant. Restaurant is full of french and other artistic work and food is at top level for afordable prices. Very glad to have found this restaurant and hotel. it's definitively worth a stay.
all employees are very friendly, unfortunately they do speak very poor english or german.
Polish and french cuisine with a touch of international.
If you stay for a night in the hotel, you will be very positivly surprised about the large and very nice prepared breakfast that is included in the hotelprice.
Enjoy!

Awful food and had to swap my meal for my wife's because she couldn't eat the tough frozen meat dish she was served. There are much better restaurants to eat at on the square. We definitely will not be going back.
When my wife left a review she has had abusive messages from someone we believe must be associated with the restaurant.

Friends shared a salad and a pasta, and both looked delicious. Service was excellent. Eat here on your next pottery trip!

After pottery shopping, the kids balked at eating Polish cuisine. A quick search of Trip Advisor revealed this place in a small town close by. Cheerful decor and a friendly staff. We were entertained during our wait for our pizzas and pasta by watching the pizza tossing videos. The pizza, made in a wood-burning oven, was quite good. My daughter liked her spaghetti with pesto sauce (but not sure that was homemade). They have a kids menu, but it mysteriously doesn't seem to have any pizza or pasta dishes on it. There was a tiny bit of a language barrier, but they have a menu in English and we managed to communicate just fine.
