Looked this place up after seeing it on TripAdvisor and must admit a great little find. My spanish is not excellent but enough to get by but the staff here were more than helpful even though English not their strong point they were very friendly. Decided not to go with the menu del dia but opted for 2 starters to share followed by 2 main courses and then icecream. Had 2 bottles of wine coffee and 2 Brandeis just couldn't believe the price. Excellent value for money. Definitely recommend it and certainly visit again when in the area.

An amazing dining room environment in the old castle. The menu is somewhat limited, but the food is good and the service was gracious.Very expensive (â¬50 a person without alcohol).Dear client,Thank you for sharing your experience in our restaurant and we are glad you enjoyed lunch. We hope to see you again at the Parador de Alarcón.Best regards.Josefina MartÃnez.

Being a Thursday night in tiny Alarcón, we had the restaurant to ourselves. All the daytime visitors had gone home but we were spending the night in the castle/Parador hotel. I would highly recommend anyone doing the same to go to La Fragua for dinner or lunch. One of co-owners was actually the chef at the Parador for more than 25 years until he and a friend decided to open their own place and took over La Fragua. On the back wall there is a life-size replica of the 1630 painting by Velázquez after which the place is named: Apolo en la Fragua de Vulcano/Apollo in the Forge of Vulcan, the original of which is in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.Extremely friendly and efficient service and advice on menu choices which include many regional dishes. We had a generous partridge salad, delicious "migas", a deer stew and the wonderful roast lamb. As my husband loves apple pie, we ordered theirs, freshly-baked and sprinkled with cinnamon. (Of course, being Bermudian, he insisted on icecream with his!)

Arrived about 1:30 in the afternoon and went into the bar, where all the tables were vacant, and sat down. Waitress immediately came up and told us we couldnât sit there! So we got up and moved to a table outside. Only one table was in the shade so we sat down there. Again the same waitress came up and told us we couldnât sit there and pointed to a table in the direct son and told us to sit there. At this point we felt very unwelcome and got up and walked out.

We arrived on a Sunday, and the establishment was packed with people. The bartender approached us quickly to arrange for our table for two. Frankly, I can't remember what we ordered or what we ate -- but I do remember that the servings were very large and were part of a "menu". I think this is the reason why this establishment is so popular: You get a starter and a main dish, a coffee, and a glass of wine for less than 20 Euro per person -- a good value experience, but I would not go out of my way to dine here again. There are enough other places in Alarcòn for something more memorable.
